Solictor General for the AG’s office, Liz Murrill, says they still believe the governor can do more to get executions scheduled

Eight people are under arrest in relation to a dismembered male body discovered in the woods outside of Walker. Authorities say the human body parts may be connected to a missing persons case out of Ascension Parish. Livingston Sheriff Jason Ard says at this point they’re leaning towards the incident being drug related, as those who allegedly played a part, were found with narcotics, and jackets full of drug related offenses.

In a move that blindsided many, following repeatedly denying he would run, the interim Secretary of State, Kyle Ardoin, made a last minute announcement of his inclusion into the special election for the Secretary of State’s office on the final day on qualifying.  Ardoin claims he never purposely misled anyone about his intentions with the November special election.

A viral video of Becca and Johnathon Campbell, a newlywed couple, has gained social media fame after a sugar-coated sabotage.  The video shows the groom, an Alabama fan, cutting into a Bama themed cake.  Upon removing the slice of cake, he discovered lurking below the icing were the LSU colors of purple and gold.  The couple made an appearance on ESPN Radio in Baton Rouge.  The groom is in good spirits about the prank.  He says the video was first shared on Facebook, and soon the calls came rolling in.

ULM’s Caleb Evans heads into the season as one of the top quarterbacks in the Sun Belt. During his sophomore season, Evans rushed for a league-high 13 touchdowns, while also throwing for nearly 29-hundred yards. Warhawks Head Coach Matt Viator says they want Evans to be more comfortable in the pocket this season…

LSU junior linebacker Devin White is on the Butkus Award watch list, which honors the nation’s best linebacker. Greedy Williams is on the Jim Thorpe Award preseason watch list, which goes to the best defense back in the country. Louisiana Tech defensive end Jaylon Ferguson is on the Bronko Nagurski Trophy Watch List, while O’Shea Dugas is on the Outland Trophy watch list.

LSU Baseball Coach Paul Mainieri is anticipating big things for the 2019 Tigers. He says championship caliber players will be on the roster. He says one of their best position players could be Daniel Cabrera, who played well for the USA Collegiate National team this summer….

Mainieri says a healthy Josh Smith will also be a key for next season. Smith has yet to resume baseball activities after missing all but six games in 2018 because of a bad back, but Mainieri says his shortstop is no longer experiencing any pain.

More jobs are coming to Iberville Parish as Gov. John Bel Edwards and Shintech Louisiana LLC have announced a $1.49 Billion expansion.  The project is expected to create 120 new direct jobs with an average salary of more than $81k, plus benefits.  The company works in chemical production and has been in the bayou state since 1999.

Authorities have identified the remains as 26-year-old Michael Neufeld of Donaldsonville. He was last seen by family members on July 2nd. The Bureau of Economic Analysis says Louisiana’s Gross Domestic Product grew for the first quarter of this year at a rate of two-point-three percent, which is faster than 35 other states. In a statement, Governor John Bel Edwards says it’s a sign Louisiana’s economy is steadily improving and his administration continues to work towards bringing record economic development deals.

18-year-old La. Tech student Mason Andrews is on his way to becoming the youngest pilot to ever circumnavigate the globe. The young man left Monroe airport on Sunday for the trip which should take 30 to 40 days. Aviation Department Head Jordan Lyons says it’ll be a taxing trip that will push Andrews physical tolerance.

Southeast Louisiana Congressman Steve Scalise is set to seek his 6th term in office as representative of Louisiana’s 1st district. Democrat Lee Ann Dugas of Kenner, who’s running against the Congressman, says she’s concerned about positions Scalise has adopted, such as support for the trade dispute with China. The disabled Gulf War Vet, who’s run for the seat three times before, says she would stand up to the President’s push for more tariffs.

The final tab for the three special sessions this year is in, clocking at 1.5 million dollars. That’s due to the 42,921 dollars per day that the additional House and Senate gatherings cost taxpayers. 60 percent of the cost came from mileage reimbursements to legislators, as well as per-day pay for the lawmakers. The special sessions, called by the governor to address the fiscal cliff, ran for 36 days this year.
