That’s Livingston Parish Sheriff’s office spokesperson Lori Steel, who says another woman was also injured and several children were inside the home at the time of the attack in Denham Springs.

Public school teachers in Monroe will receive a two-percent pay raise next school year, their first increase in ten years. Superintendent Brent Vidrine hopes the increase will boost morale. But President of the Monroe Federation of Teachers Sandie Lollie says a tw-percent increase is not a lot of money.

Bossier Parish Sheriff Julian Whittingon says eight-thousand tickets have been issued to drivers for allegedly driving uninsured cars and trucks. The parish installed license plate readers at dozens intersections last year and the citations cost guilty individuals 200-dollars.

The State Fire Marshal’s office has arrested a man accused of setting fire to his ex-girlfriend’s house, her father’s truck and her parents house. Two of the fires were set in Ville Platte, the other in Opelousas. Authorities have been searching for 35-year-old Austin Blake Ceasar since the date of the first fire, which was March 9th. No one was injured in any of the fires.

20-year-old Stephon Perkins of Shreveport has been arrested after he allegedly tried to run over an officer during a pursuit that ended in Bossier City. Police say Perkins failed to stop during an attempted traffic stop and eventually crashed his vehicle into a patrol unit. A Shreveport office fired his weapon, striking Perkins in the elbow. No officers were injured.

Today is the third and final day of the Major League Baseball Draft and the LSU program has not been hit too hard, when it comes to draft-eligible sophomores and juniors taken. In fact the only Tiger picked so far, is left-hander Nick Bush, who was selected by the Colorado Rockies in the eighth round. Draft-eligible sophomores Zack Hess and Zach Watson were not selected in the first 10 rounds and the same goes for junior outfielder Antoine Duplantis of Lafayette.

The Ragin Cajuns had three pitchers taken, Logan Harris in the third round to the As, and in the ninth round right-handers Logan Stoelke and Nick Lee were selected. Stoelke goes to the Pirates and Rays drafted Lee.

Northwestern State’s David Fry went in the 7th round to the Milwaukee Brewers.

Southeastern Louisiana has promoted Andew Gipson to associate head coach and pitching coach. The Alabama native has spent the past four seasons as an assistant at SLU.

The Super Regional series are set in the NCAA Baseball Tournament. Three of the eight match-ups feature SEC teams battling each other for the right to go to Omaha. In Nasvhille, Vanderbilt will host Mississippi State in a best of three series that starts Friday. Auburn will visit top-seeded Florida. The series in Gainesville begins Saturday. South Carolina is at Arkansas for a Super Regional series that starts Saturday.

Florida State won the Women’s College World Series las tnight with an eight to three win over Washington. It’s the first national title in softball for the Seminoles who started by losing their first game in Oklahoma City.

Tonight is Game 3 of the NBA Finals in Cleveland. The Cavs are down two games to none, they also trailed in their series against the Celtics and Pacers this season.

Former New Orleans Pelicans head coach Monty Williams has reportedly returned to coaching as he’ll serve as the 76ers lead assistant. Williams has been working in the front office for the Spurs. He was the Oklahoma City Thunder’s associate head coach, but left the bench after his wife was killed in a car accident in February 2016.

With the second extra legislative session of this year ending in a partisan gridlock, and a third coming up, State Representative Malinda White of Bogalusa says she’s taking action by donating her pay from an expected third special session to a worthy cause in District 75.

A third special session would cost at least 50-thousand dollars a day.

By failing once again to pass a solution to fund the budget, White says that her constituents are aggravated with the costs and delays caused by the extra sessions.

While refusing the check isn’t possible under the current system, she’s reinvesting the funds into her district, saying she will not let political agendas cost the taxpayers more than it has to.

The Edwards administration is sounding the alarm about the cuts that would need to be enforced, if the House does not pass a sales tax bill that generates 500 million dollars in revenue. Commissioner of Administration Jay Dardenne says the budget that passed the legislature calls for massive cuts to popular state programs, without the additional funding.

As of now TOPS is facing a 30-percent cut, higher ed would receive a 96-million dollar cut. The governor supports a Senate approved plan that failed to  in the House that would renew half of the expiring penny sales tax.

With TOPS in particular at risk of a substantial cut, Dardenne says it’s time for those who want to protect the scholarship program to get active.

A block of anti-tax House Republicans rejected two tax plans, one that would raise half a penny and fully fund the government, and another that renews a third of a penny and would require 126 million in additional budget cuts.

Shreveport Representative Alan Seabaugh’s polarizing decision to purposely “run the clock out” by filibustering at the end of the night before a final tax vote all but guaranteed the governor will call for another special session. He says he shut down the session because the state has the cash to fund priorities, and doesn’t need to renew any of the 1.4 billion in expiring taxes that drop off June 30th.

Seabuagh, whose being hailed by fiscal conservatives for putting the breaks on a session ending tax vote, says the Governor’s decision to expand Medicaid in the state is strangling the budget, and is directly responsible for the cuts that could be made to higher education and TOPS.

The governor has not announced the start date for a third special session, but it will occur before the end of the month, because the new budget year begins July 1st.

Livingston Parish deputies were informed about a domestic dispute and dispatched to a Denham Springs home around 1 am Tuesday morning.  Sheriff’s office spokesperson Lori Steel, says the results were a deadly tragedy witnessed by several children.

Officials are saying it appears the suspect stabbed the victim multiple times with a knife, as well as attacked another individual with his bare hands.

Steel says thankfully, none of the children who witnessed the crime were injured.

The suspect, Christopher Glen, is currently being held in the Livingston Parish Detention Center and more charges are pending.

With no tax bill passed, TOPS will be reduced to 70 percent, and higher ed will be cut by 20 percent. The only LSU player selected during day two of the Major League Baseball Draft is sophomore left-hander Nick Bush who was drafted in the eight round by the Colorado Rockies. Bush boasted an ERA of 3.40 in 47.2 innings this past season.

No LSU baseball players were selected in the first seven rounds of the Major League Baseball Draft, which is good news for Coach Paul Mainieri. Zack Hess, Zach Watson and Antoine Duplantis are draft eligible and if they were selected high enough and received a big enough signing bonus, they may decide to end their college career and play professional baseball.

An LSU signee was drafted in the first round last night. Shortstop Brice Turang of California was selected with the 21st overall pick by the Milwaukee Brewers. It was considered a long shot that Turang would end up on LSU’s campus. He’s been compared to former LSU standout Alex Bregman.

Ragin Cajuns pitcher Hogan Harris was selected in the third round today by the Oakland Athletics. He’s been listed as a Top 150 prospect. And Tulane outfielder Grant Witherspoon went in the fourth round to the Tampa Bay Rays after hitting .330 with 12 home runs and 53 RBIs. And Southland Conference Player of the Year, Northwestern State’s David Fry was picked by the Milwaukee Brewers in the seventh round.

The Super Regional Series are set and the nation’s number four national seed Ole Miss is not among the 16 teams left. The Rebels were defeated twice yesterday by the Tennessee Tech Golden Eagles, winning game 15-5 and the night cap 3-2.

Georgia also failed to make the super regionals are losing twice to Duke.

The Sun Belt Conference has changes to the format of its mens and women’s basketball tournament. And the tourney will move to the Smoothie King Center in New Orleans in 2020.
