The Senate passed a proposal that will allow school employees to pray with students during the class hours. Before joining in the group prayers, students would have to have a signed request form signed by their parents. The bill’s sponsor, Bossier Senator Ryan Gatti, says it’s a response to recent legal actions taken against his parish. Gatti says denying students the ability to pray with faculty flies in the face of local culture.

The Saints made a bold move to select a pass rusher they desperately wanted last night. New Orleans sent three picks to Green Bay, including next year’s first round selection, to get the Packers 14th overall selection and with that pick the Black and Gold took University of Texas-San Antonio defensive end Marcus Davenport. He’s been labeled a freakish athlete who can get after the quarterback off the edge.

LSU running back Derrius Guice is still waiting to be picked. It’s the third time in the last four years that the Tigers did not have a player selected in the first round.

Dawn Ross, who is a longtime employee of the Secretary of State’s office, says she was the recipient of unwanted sexually charged emails, gifts and advances by Schedler since 2007. Ross says Schedler also stalked her and would show up unannounced in public settings. She says the Secretary of State even bought a townhome in the same complex as her…

Schedler has described the relationship as consensual, but US Senator John Kennedy has now called on the statewide elected Republican to resign. Louisiana Radio Network’s Jim Shannon, who is married to Jill Craft, Ross’s attorney, conducted the interview.

The Black and Gold traded their first round pick in this year, and next year’s draft to make the move up to 14 for one of the most athletically gifted players in the draft. Davenport, who studies philosophy and writes poetry, says he’s looking forward to the move.

Chark ran 4.34 in the 40, the fastest wide receiver time in the draft. Another speedster, cornerback Donte Jackson is also expected to be a second round pick.

LSU’s bullpen is a mess. The Tigers gave up 11 runs in the sixth inning and lost to Ole Miss 14-3. It’s the Bayou Bengals fourth straight loss in the SEC. John Kordros, Matthew Beck and Taylor Peterson each gave up multiple runs in that sixth inning. The Tigers will try again at 6:30.

US Senator John Kennedy says it saddens him, but he believes Secretary of State Tom Schedler should resign because of the sexual harassment allegations made against him by a longtime employee. When the accusations first surfaced, Kennedy said he’s withholding judgement, but his views have changed after the Advocate newspaper published a series of emails that Kennedy says shows Schedler crossed the line.

The nation could be facing a truck driver shortage of over 100 thousand by 2022, and that means higher prices for consumers. Matt Doyle has more.

The nation faces a truck driver shortage, and that could hurt your pocketbook. The American Trucking Association says they expect to see a 106,000 driver shortage by 2022. Louisiana Motor Transport Association Executive Director Chance McNeely says it’s resulting in longer delivery times and higher prices for consumers.

Trucking doesn’t seem to have the same pull it used to. McNeely says average pay sits between 40 to 50 thousand, depending on the job, but one regulation in particular is keep young people from considering the industry.

Louisiana Motor Transport Association Executive Director Chance McNeely says The industry is facing a unique problem in that as the economy expands, more shipping is needed, but McNeely says the number of drivers appears to be dropping, just as demand has begun increasing.

Getting a pass rusher was a priority for the Saints this offseason and it appears they have found their man. New Orleans traded up from the 27th pick to the 14th pick to take Texas-San Antonio defensive end Marcus Davenport. He had six and a half sacks and 10 tackles for a loss for the Roadrunners last season. Coach Sean Payton says Davenport plays with a high motor…

The Saints do not have a second round pick, so their next selection will be in the third round. If they don’t make any more trades, they’ll have five more picks after that.

Former LSU running back Derius Guice was not selected in the first round. There were reports that some teams had concerns about Guice’s character, even though he never got in trouble during his time at LSU. DJ Chark, Donte Jackson and Will Clapp are other potential LSU Tigers who will be drafted today.

There was another implosion with the LSU bullpen last night and this was the worst one yet. Ole Miss scored 11 runs off of four different relievers in the sixth and the Rebels cruised to a 14-3 victory. John Kodros (Co-dros) faced three batters and they all scored. Taylor Peterson gave up three runs and recorded just one out and Matthew Beck allowed five runs.

In other college baseball action, Louisiana Tech is at Western Kentucky, the Cajuns visit Georgia State, McNeese hosts Southland Conference leader Sam Houston State.

After one round at the Zurich Classic of New Orleans at the TPC Louisiana, Americans Chez Reavie and Lucas Glover are tied with a duo from China.

Steph Curry is listed as questionable for tomorrow night’s series opener between the Pelicans and Warriors. Curry participated in his first full practice yesterday since suffering a Grade 2 left MCL sprain on his left knee. Head Coach Steve Kerr said the two-time MVP looked good. Game 1 is tomorrow night at 9:30.

The Baton Rouge Advocate is reporting that secretary of state Tom
Schedler made advances of the girl who has sued him for sexual Harassment. The Advocate obtained E-mails between Dawn Ross and Schedler clearly showing Schedler was interested in pursuing a relationship with Ross. Her responses were not receptive.
