A suspect linked to the fatal shootings of four people in Zachary and East Feliciana is in custody. Michelle Southern reports one victim was an ex-girlfriend.

LSU announces they are changing the names of many streets on its Baton Rouge campus, including the well known Raphael Semmes Road, which is named after a Confederate officer. The street name will change to Veterans Drive. This is part of a strategy by the university to make it easier to find buildings on campus using a GPS.

 

State Police are searching for a pickup truck driver after a man riding in the bed fell out and died yesterday in Winn Parish. Master Trooper Scott Moreau says they are trying to determine how 21-year-old Hunter Thomisee of Montgomery fell out and why he was in the bed of the pickup. He says they need the public’s help to find the vehicle and it’s driver.

It’s Cyber Monday and the Attorney General’s Office is reminding consumers to be aware of potential online scams. Press Secretary for the A-G Ruth Wisher suggests avoiding online purchases while using a public wifi network.

State Police arrest a Slidell man after he allegedly hit a bicyclist, removed him from his windshield and left the scene.  Trooper Dustin Dwight says 48-year-old Larry Kellett struck 59-year-old Calvin Lefort Jr. of Slidell on US 190 Saturday night…

It was fairly easy to find out where Kellett went.  Dwight says all they had to do was follow a fluid trail…

After police found Kellett, Dwight says he offered a breath sample, which showed no alcohol in his system.  Dwight says they are still trying to find out why he left the scene, making more of a problem for himself…

Baton Rouge Police charge a 38-year-old man with cruelty to a juvenile after allegedly beating his son with a belt for getting suspended. Sgt. Don Coppola says Edward Humphrey dropped the child off at his mother’s workplace, who called police about her 11-year-old son’s injuries.

Coppola says earlier this month, Humphrey was sent to pick up his son from school after being suspended. He says that’s when Humphrey allegedly took the 11-year-old to the teacher’s lounge and whipped him with a belt.

Coppola says it’s unknown if anyone witnessed Humphrey whipping the child, but the discipline went too far…

Attorney General Jeff Landry urges consumers buying online for Cyber Monday to be mindful of the deals they take part in. Press Secretary for the A-G’s Office Ruth Wisher reminds Louisiana residents that internet scams are out there. She says to make sure the website is secure before entering in your credit card information.

 

Wisher also suggests avoiding online purchases while using a public wifi network.

East Feliciana was investigating a triple homicide and had also identified Ike Hamilton as the suspect. He was found in Alabama today.

Authorities say a suspect linked to the fatal shootings of four people in Zachary and East Feliciana has been taken into custody in Alabama. East Feliciana Sheriff Jeff Travis says they responded to a call Sunday around 5pm and located three people deceased inside a home. He says they were able to establish Ike Hamilton as the suspect in that case…:

Hamilton was also named in the Zachary murder of a man at a grocery store. Hamilton’s mother was also arrested accused of taking her son to Alabama.

The swearing-in ceremony for John Schroder as State Treasurer will take place on Tuesday, December 5th. Schroder, a Republican, received 56 percent of the vote, to Democratic opponent Derrick Edwards’ 44 percent during the November 18th runoff election. The turnout was record-low.

State Police have arrested a Slidell man in a fatal hit and run of a bicyclist, after cops tracked the suspect down by following a trail of vehicle fluid from the scene of the crash. Trooper Dustin Dwight says 48-year-old Larry Kellett allegedly struck 59-year-old Calvin Lefort Jr. of Slidell on US 190 Saturday night…:

He says they followed the vehicle fluid and caught up with Kellett who was
booked in the St. Tammany Parish jail on negligent homicide and felony hit-and-run.

Construction begins today on a new oyster reef in Calcasieu Lake near Lake Charles. Even though it will take a couple of years to have a fully developed oyster population, Assistant Secretary for Fisheries Patrick Banks says the reef will begin to offer rod and reel fisherman a new place to drop a line…

State Police are on the lookout for a person who drove away from an accident in Montgomery in Grant Parish early Sunday.  Troopers say 21-year-old Hunter Thomisee was in the back of a pickup, when he fell out onto the road and died.  Police don’t know how he fell out.  When they arrived on the scene, the truck took off on Highway 34 traveling west.  Anyone with information can call State Police 318-487-5911…

Shreveport Police detectives are continuing their probe into an officer-involved shooting where a suspect now faces attempted murder charges. They say 23-year-old Andre Bell allegedly attempted to run down off-duty, uniformed cops responding to a theft at a local casino. Bell suffered non-life threatening injuries was shot in the shoulder. Two officers, one who is believed to have shot the suspect, are on leave. The investigation is ongoing.

LSU moves to number 17 in the Associated Press college football poll, following a dominating 45-21 victory over Texas A&M Saturday. So what’s next for the Tigers bowl-game wise? A Baton Rouge man was identified as one of the sailors lost after a Navy plane crashed in the Phillippine Sea shortly after taking off. The U.S. Navy says Airman Matthew Chialastri is one of three Sailors that were never found after their C-2A Greyhound crashed while conducting a routine transport flight last Wednesday.

On Governor John Bel Edwards’ monthly call in radio show, Ask the Governor, he voiced his frustration with the 13-percent turnout for the November 14th election.
