Louisiana Tech senior safety Secdrick Cooper has been named Conference USA defensive player of the week. Cooper has two interceptions in the Bulldogs 34-16 win over South Alabama. Tech is at UAB this Saturday.

The Saints are 2-and-2 as they head into the bye week thanks to yesterday’s 20-0 win over the Dolphins in London. New Orleans next game is against the 3-and-1 Detroit Lions on October 15.

An arrest has been made in last night’s shooting death of a Lafayette police officer in an exchange of gunfire shortly after 10 pm. 28 year old, Ian Paul Howard was arrested in connection with the death of Officer Michael Middlebrook. Howard is charged with one count of first degree murder of a police officer. State Trooper Brooks (DAH-VEED) David says two people inside the convenience store sustained non-life threatening injuries.

Howard was a nine-year veteran of the police force.
Former FBI agent and current Tulane Professor Jim Bernanzini says the FBI will spend the next couple of day trying to learn all they can about the alleged Las Vegas mass shooter, 64 year old Stephen Paddock. He says investigators will also want to know how Paddock was able to get so many firearms into his room on the 32nd floor of the Mandalay Bay casino without the hotel staff noticing suspicious activity.

The passenger of the SUV was killed. He has not been identified. The driver, 22-year-old Kenyon Frazier, was shot multiple times and doctors say he has life-threatening injuries. Willhite says it is believed they were shot by a person with a rifle…

A suspect fled the scene on foot, but was apprehended a short time later by Lafayette police. Middlebrook was a native of Thibodaux and a nine-year veteran of the Lafayette Police Department. Worsham says evidence suggests that there is not much hope for this season, especially with four SEC road games to go, but it’s college football and anything can happen. He says it doesn’t seem like there is a lot of urgency on either side of the ball, and this does not look like an LSU football team..:

We have more information on last night’s fatal shooting of a Lafayette Police officer. Corporal Michael Middlebrook died while responding to an incident at a conveinence store. A suspect has been apprehended, but police have yet to release his name. Middlebrook was a nine-year veteran of Lafayette P-D and leaves behind a wife, a three-year-old duaghter and two stepdaughters.

Shreveport police are looking for the gunman who fatally shot a passenger in another vehicle on Interstate 20 during the overnight hours. Corporal Angie Willhite says they don’t know if the victim’s vehicle was targeted or if this was a random shooting…

The Lafayette Police Department has identified their officer who was killed in the line of duty last night as Corporal Michael Paul Middlebrook. They said Corporal Middlebrook leaves behind a wife, their three year old daughter and two step-daughters. State Police Trooper Brooks David says this is a tragedy:

The Ascension Parish Sheriff’s Office has released a statement regarding Louisiana’s next big concert event in light of the tragedy surrounding the Route 91 Harvest Country Music Festival in Las Vegas last night. They want to reassure those attending Flambeau Fest in Gonzales this weekend that they will be very safe, and the venue will include a coordinated effort between law enforcement, concert security and Lamar Dixon personnel.

Detroit doubled up Minnesota 14-7.

We’re coming towards the end of the Atlantic hurricane season but that doesn’t mean we’re out of the woods just yet. State Climatologist Barry Keim says Louisiana has seen some notable hurricanes in the month of October. He says Hurricane Juan hit our coast in 1985 from October 28th to the 31st…:

Shreveport Police say one person is dead and another injured following a shooting on I-20 east. They say officers located the driver of a vehicle, 22-year-old Kenyon Frazier, suffering multiple gunshot wounds, and he was sent to a hospital with life-threatening injuries. The passenger, not yet identified, was pronounced dead at the scene. Investigators believe the shots came from a small, dark colored vehicle, but no other information is available at this time. Anyone with information on this incident is urged to contact police.
