There will soon be more Dunkin Donut shops in Louisiana thanks to Saints quarterback Drew Brees, who has partnered with the popular doughnut and coffee franchise. Marketing manager with Dunkin’ Donuts in Louisiana, Erin Sheeran, says the company wanted to connect with the people of New Orleans and the rest of the state in a special way….

LRN Website Update

Hello affiliates,

It seems like many of our website issues have been resolved. I’ve checked with a couple of stations and they are now able to download programs off our site. If you are still having problems let me know, because I thought we’ve reached the finish line before. I’ve been told we could still have intermittent problems, but it’s operating much more efficiently than this morning. Again, thanks for your patience.

11:40 LRN Sportscast January 4th

There are 15 finalists for the Class of 2017 NFL Hall of Fame and three of them have ties to Louisiana. Former Saints kicker Morten Anderson is a finalist for a fourth time. He spent his first 13 seasons in New Orleans and finished his 25 year career in the NFL as the league’s all-time leading scorer.

Former LSU Tigers Alan Faneca and Kevin Mawae are also among the finalists. Faneca was named to the All-Pro team eight times and won a Super Bowl with the Pittsburgh Steelers. Mawae played for 16 seasons in the NFL and started eight games. He blocked for 13 1,000 rushers during his career.

The LSU men’s basketball team is at Missouri tonight for an 8:00 tip-off. The Bayou Bengals are looking to snap a two game losing streak. In both games, they’ve been torched for 16 three-pointers. But they face a Missouri team that ranks 13th in the league in scoring and they have an overall record of 5-7.

In the SWAC tonight…Grambling is at a winless Alabama A-and-M team while Southern hosts Texas Southern. Both teams are 5-9 on the year.

The Pelicans are off tonight, but tomorrow the Atlanta Hawks make their only appearance in the Smoothie King Center. The Pels Buddy Hield was named the league’s Rookie of the Month for his performance in December. He averaged nearly 11 points a game and shot 48-percent from three-point territory

Drivers can expect to pay more at the pump this year, as GasBuddy forecasts the highest prices in three years. Senior Petroleum Analyst Greg Laskowski says right now the statewide average is $2.16, which is about 40-cents higher than a year ago and he expects to see a spike later this winter and spring.

Water systems across Louisiana are increasing fees to help with increased state inspections. State Health Officer Dr. Jimmy Guidry says there’s always been a fee to pay for state inspections, but the legislature and governor agreed to increase the fee by another 75-cents per month starting in January, because health risks are getting higher…

Guidry hopes keeping up with our water systems will prevent another disaster like the poor drinking water currently in St. Joseph.

Hyundai Glovis announces they’ll hire 150 workers to work on vehicles that need accessories at the old General Motors plant in Shreveport. This is not related to Elio Motors, who leased part of the plant in the hopes of one day producing a fuel-efficient three-wheel vehicle.

Hyundai Glovis announces they will employ 150 workers at the old General Motors plant in Shreveport. Workers there will outfit imported vehicles with equipment and exterior upgrades. The average salary for those working at this facility, will receive 32-thousand dollars a year plus benefits. They anticipate Hyundai Glovis will bring an additional 250 indirect jobs to the area.

Right now the national weather service is calling for a slight chance of snow in north and central Louisiana and rain for south Louisiana that day. Three football players with ties to Louisiana are finalists to make the Pro Football Hall of Fame this year. Former Saints kicker Morten Anderson and former LSU Tigers Alan Faneca and Kevin Mawae. It’s the fourth time Andersen has been a finalist. The fourth round pick in 1982 scored 2,544 points, most ever in NFL history. Faneca was named to the All-Pro team eight times. Mawae has been a semifinalist the last two years and named an All-Pro eight times. They’ll find out Super Bowl weekend whether they made the Hall of Fame or not.

Former LSU football player Seth Fruge says an SEC championship ring and other football mementos were stolen from his Shreveport home over the Christmas break. Fruge played on special teams as a walk-on for the Tigers from 2009 to 2013. In a facebook post, Fruge says the thief took his blood, sweat and tears he shared with his teammates.

The LSU men’s basketball team takes on Missouri tonight at 8 Pm in Columbia. The Tigers are trying to end a two-game losing streak. In those two losses against Wake Forest and Vanderbilt, each team hit 16 three-pointers against LSU and the Tigers allowed 110 and 96 points respectively.

A 25-hundred dollar reward is being offered for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the person responsible for the murder of a 22-year-old Hammond man. Darius Latin was fatally shot in the early morning hours of December 28th in an apartment building. A motive is not known.
