Even though they beat the Bucs, New Orleans is now officially eliminated from playoff contention. The Saints face the Falcons Sunday in Atlanta.

In the NBA, the Pelicans will take on the Mavericks tonight in the Smoothie King Center at 7pm. New Orleans isn’t out of the playoff picture even though they are 11-21 and three games behind the Sacramento Kings who occupy the 8th seed.

The woman accused of giving birth in a New Rhodes Wal Mart and leaving the infant in a bathroom has been arrested on charges of attempted second-degree murder, according to authorities. The Department of Children and Families Services says no mother has to take such desperate measures, because of Louisiana’s Safe Haven Law…:

That’s DCFS Deputy Secretary Terri Ricks. She says the baby is in stable condition at a Baton Rouge Hospital. The woman is identified as 34-year-old Kyandrea Thomas of Baker.

The US Department of Housing says a meeting will be held January 6th to discuss how the $1.2 billion dollars they’ve approved for flood recovery will be handed out. Governor John Bel Edwards says this isn’t everything victims of the devastating March and August events need, but it’s a significant milestone in Louisiana’s recovery.

Guidry says the March flood had a 90-million dollar economic impact to the state agriculture industry. Many producers had to replant corn, which added to production costs. He says then we had the August flood in south Louisiana, which ruined many acres of rice, soybean and cotton

Guidry says making the recovery more difficult from the floods is that major crops like corn and soybeans are not going for a high price on the market…

Officials in Pointe Coupee Parish say a woman gave birth in a Wal Mart bathroom in New Roads, then left the infant in the trash can. Department of Children and Family Services Deputy Director Terri Ricks wants the public to know that no mother has to take such desperate measures, because of Louisiana’s Safe Haven Law…:

Ricks says the baby girl, who was discovered just hours after birth, is currently in DCFS custody, and it appears that she is going to pull through. Since 2004 they’ve had about 45 infants that have been safely relinquished. Ricks says a designated facility can be a licensed hospital, a public health unit, medical clinic or a police or fire station. The mother of the baby that was left in a Wal Mart trash can in New Roads has reportedly been located. Her name is not being released, but detectives are believed to have found the woman at a hospital in Zachary where she went after giving birth inside the bathroom at the store. According to EMS, the baby is currently in critical, but stable condition.

Governor John Bel Edwards says the HUD approval of $1.2 billion dollars in flood relief is a significant milestone in Louisiana’s recovery. He says it’s not everything victims need, but he’s grateful the guidelines were published so quickly. When Congress returns, the governor says he’ll continue to work to bring more help to those in need.

The latest information from the North American Aerospace Defense Command – better known as NORAD – shows elves are busy loading the sleigh ahead of Santa’s around-the-world journey tonight. NORAD’s Lt. Commander Paul Noel says making sure the skies are safe over North America is their mission…:

The Pointe Coupee Parish Sheriff’s Office is investigating the case of an hours old infant who was located in a bathroom trashcan at the Wal Mart in New Roads. They say the baby was not responsive at first, but medical personnel stabilized the girl at the hospital. Police do have the name of a person of interest, but have not yet released that name.

Friday the US Department of Housing approved $1.2 billion dollars in aid for flood victims. Louisiana is now in line to receive $1.65 billion for recovery for the devastating March and August events.

More people are going out of town this Holiday period than ever recorded by AAA. Jeff Palermo reports..:

Louisiana Tech fans are happy campers today as the Bulldogs pulled out an incredible win against Navy in the Lockheed Martin Armed Forces Bowl. Trent Taylor scooped up 12 catches for 233 yards and 2 touchdowns while garnering the game’s MVP award in the 48-45 victory.

One week from today LSU will be kicking off against Louisville in the Citrus Bowl. But for this weekend Tigers Coach Ed Orgeron says he’ll enjoy the time off with his family for Christmas…:

The Saints final home game of the year is tomorrow as they host the Tampa Bay Bucs, who are fighting for a playoff spot. New Orleans playoff chances are very slim and they could be eliminated from the postseason before tomorrow’s 3:25 kickoff. Saints cornerback Delvin Breaux will not play because of a shoulder injury. Craig Robertson, Max Unger, Dannell Ellerbe and John Kuhn are all questionable.

Two right tackles for Tampa Bay will miss the game, Demar Dotson and Goser Cherilus. Defensive end William Gholston will also not play for the Bucs.

LSU Coach Johnny Jones didn’t have much of a Christmas spirit after last night’s 110-76 loss to Wake Forest. The Tigers will return to action on Thursday when they host Vanderbilt in the SEC opener.

In other college basketball action last night…Louisiana Tech easily defeated LSU-Shreveport 95-53, VCU knocked off ULM 78-65 and North Carolina State upended McNeese State 89-57. Earlier today, it was Texas State beating Tulane 69-66 in overtime.
