The Shreveport Police Department arrests a teacher accused of making false claims regarding a person she suspected was coming to the school to harm her. They say Tamekia Anderson said a man she knew texted her that he was coming to her place of work to shoot her. The school was placed on lock down as a precaution. Investigators say they later learned Anderson fabricated the story and she was charged on a count of Criminal Mischief.

The state announces a scholarship opportunity for Phi Theta Kappa Honor society students attending community and technical schools and who would like to transfer into either Southern University in Baton Rouge or New Orleans. Governor John Bel Edwards says the Pathway Scholarship awards up to 15-hundred dollars and it will give these students a chance to receive a four-year degree…:

There was a bit of good news announced for the state’s struggling oil and gas industry as OPEC members have made the decision to slow crude oil production by 1.2 million barrels a day starting next year. LSU’s Center for Energy Studies, David Dismukes, says it will help that oil supply will be reduced, but it’s not enough to jump start drilling in this state…:

The announcement led to an eight-percent increase in oil prices as they were trading at around 50-dollars a barrel.

The FBI has issued a release announcing the arrest of 28-year-old Joel Michael Guy Jr. of Baton Rouge who allegedly murdered and cut up his parents at the victims’ home in Tennessee. They say when the suspect visited his parents over Thanksgiving, an altercation allegedly ensued over finances. Police say Guy Jr. allegedly killed and dismembered his parents. He is awaiting extradition to Tennessee.

The topic of raising the state’s gas tax is expected to come up today during a meeting of the Transportation Task Force – charged with coming up with ways to improve Louisiana’s roads and bridges. State Rep. Kenny Havard, who chairs House Transportation, says another funding option is a one-cent per gallon refinery tax, which will lessen the burden on Louisiana residents…:

The LSU football program got some rough news as highly rated quarterback Myles Brennan decommits to the Tigers. Brennan made the announcement on Twitter after LSU offered a scholarship to another five-star quarterback who has committed to Alabama. The later move has some wondering if this means Crimson Tide offensive coordinator Lane Kiffin could be coming to LSU.

Louisiana Tech will attempt to win its first Conference USA title on Saturday when they face Western Kentucky in the league title game. The Bulldogs won the West Division to play in their second CUSA title game in three years. Tech Coach Skip Holtz says a key for them on Saturday will be not to give up the big play…:

Last night in college hoops, Southeastern ran past Maryland Eastern Shore 85-75. Louisiana Tech fell to California in overtime 66-59. Also in OT, Grambling State barely fell to Miami Ohio 78-76.

In other Tigers’ news — Grambling State announces they’ve hired Paul Bryant to be the school’s athletic director. It’s the first time Grambling gets a permanent AD since 2014.

Major Michael MacLean of the Knoxville County Sheriff’s Office says when conducting a welfare check of the victims’ homes, they made a gruesome discovery about the bodies…:
