The real estate website Trulia ranked the most Saintly Sanctuaries and Sin cities in the country and to no surprise, New Orleans comes in a number one for a sinful city. Spokesperson Filipe Chacon says they compiled the seven deadly sins to decide which places were full of envy, gluttony, greed, lust, pride, sloth, vanity, and wrath…:

Many folks are off today enjoying the Mardi Gras Holiday. But it’s a chilly one across the state and a wind advisory remains in effect through this evening.

Governor John Bel Edwards and Attorney General Jeff Landry continue to fued about a lawsuit involving Common Core. Landry wants to follow through with an appeal involving the suit, which was originally filed by former Governor Bobby Jindal. But Edwards says that’s not necessary, especially since Louisiana is in the process of rewriting its public school standards.

A statue honoring the late Pete Maravich has been approved by the LSU Athletic Hall of Fame Committee. The legendary athlete is still college basketball’s all-time leading scorer at 3,667 points. Former LSU Basketball player Collis Temple Jr. says Maravich’s scoring record is unrivaled and is happy there will be statue of “Pistol Pete”….

The stumbling block for a Maravich statue has been that “Pistol Pete” passed away a few credit hours short of earning an LSU degree. The LSU Board of Supervisors recently made changes to a policy that opened the door for a Maravich statue. Temple Jr. says Maravich deserves this honor…

Shaquille O’ Neal’s statue is in front of the entrance to the LSU basketball facility. Another statue will go up later this month for Bot Petit. The design for Maravich’s statue will be announced in the coming months, and it wiill be erected on campus next to the building named for him. Temple Jr. says Maravich deserves a statue because of the positive impact he had on LSU.

It’s a beautiful day for the Courier de Mardi Gras in Mamou. Mayor Ricky Fontenot says not only does this Mardi Gras celebration has a great economic impact on the town but it’s also been a tradition for years and years. He says they partake in the festivities a little differently than New Orleans…

Fontenot says Mamou is like a little New Orleans because people from all over flock there for the Mardi Gras celebrations. He says the traditional celebration starts off early at 6 am…

Fontenot says the last three years the weather has been horrible so everyone is looking forward to today’s sunshine. He says it’s important to keep these traditions going because it’s part of Mamou’s heritage.

Three people are reportedly arrested in connection with a fight following Sunday’s Alexandria Mardi Gras parade that was caught on video and has hundreds of thousands of views. Cops say 23-year-old Joshua Andries, 23-year-old Chelsea Thompson and 22-year-old Lauren Paul are booked with disturbing the peace by fighting. Apparently the incident was started over a parking dispute.

They call it the mini-New Orleans Fat Tuesday celebration. Mamou’s Courier De Mardi Gras has been rolling in the Acadiana town since dawn. Mayor Ricky Fontenot…:

Revelers are bundling up all over for Fat Tuesday – for a second straight day, wind advisories are posted across the state, as we could see wind gusts of up to 30 miles per hour. There’s also a chance for a light freeze overnight in the northern half of the state.

A woman tried to rob the Sorrento Post Office this morning with a water gun filled with pepper spray and the Ascension Parish Sheriff’s Office is trying to locate the suspect. They say it happened around 10:30am when a black female walked in to purchase stamps, then produced a handgun, which turned out to be a water gun with pepper spray inside, sprayed the clerk then fled. The suspect was last seen wearing a security type uniform, long coat with fur around the hood, and gloves.

Revelers would rather have cold than rain and today they are also hanging on tight to their beads. For the second day in a row a wind advisory is in effect for most of the state, and meteorologists say gusts could reach 35 miles per hour in some areas.

The New Orleans Saints have begin purging their roster as they released six-time pro bowl offensive lineman Jahri Evans, who has been a starter on the Black and Gold’s offensive line for the last decade. New Orleans has also released linebackers David Hawthorne and Ramon Humber and said good-bye to receiver Seantavius Jones. Cornerback Brandon Browner is also expected to be cut in the coming days.

Nearly the entire state is under another wind advisory on this Mardi Gras. The National Weather Service says sustained winds could range from 15-25 miles per hour, with possible gusts of 30 miles per hour.

The LSU Athletic Hall of Fame Committee unanimously approves a proposal for a statue honoring the late Pete Maravich to be installed on campus. Details on a design and construction will be released in the coming months.

Campaigning is in full swing for this year’s US Senate race. The seat is being left open by outgoing Senator David Vitter. Republican candidate Lafayette Congressman Charles Boustany told reporters in Baton Rouge that working on ways to grow our economy is one of his top priorities…:

New Republican Louisiana Speaker of the House Taylor Barras says he was anticipating more proposed spending reforms in Governor John Bel Edwards call for the special session which begins Sunday. A feud over what to do with a lawsuit that attempts to get Louisiana out Common Core continues to grow between Governor Edwards and Attorney General Jeff Landry. Edwards wants to terminate the federal case, but Landry wants to continue the appeal process and believes the constitution gives him the final say on the matter.

The Public Affairs Research Council has published a nine-page report that contains several suggestions on how to control state spending. PAR president Robert Travis Scott says one suggestion is to do away with various tax credits the state gives, like the tax deduction parents receive for sending their child to a private school…

Another PAR recommendation calls for no merit pay increases for state employees next year.

LSU basketball star Ben Simmons has been named SEC Freshman of the Week for a fourth time this season. The Tigers are at 20th ranked South Carolina tomorrow.

The Pelicans ended a four-game losing streak with a solid 116-102 victory over the Minnesota Timberwolves. Anthony Davis and Jrue Holiday led the way as each scored 27 points. Ryan Anderson added 26 points for the Pels, who are home on Wednesday night to host the Utah Jazz.

In college hoops…Nicholls State pulled off an upset last night as the Colonels upended Incarnate Word 71-60. TJ Carpenter had 19 points, including a three-pointer at the buzzer at halftime.

Despite 25 points from Zeek Woodley, Northwestern State fell to Stephen F Austin 83-72. A three-pointer with three seconds left ended Southern’s eight game winning streak as the Jaguars lost to Jackson State 81-80 and Grambling fell to Alcorn State 66-63.

For the second straight week, UL Lafayette’s Shawn Long is the Louisiana Sports Writers Association men’s basketball player of the week. Long averaged 24 points and 14 rebounds in two games last week. The Cajuns, who have won eight in a row, host Arkansas State on Thursday.
