Last year, the Tigers reached the College World Series, but the team that will take the field tonight will look different. When the LSU baseball tigers take Skip Bertman Field tonight, it’ll be the first call at the Box for the new Voice of the Tigers, Chris Blair. Blair is taking the spot of Jim Hawthorne who retires after the end of men’s basketball season.

College hoops, UL-Lafayette was edged by Texas-Arlington 84-83 in overtime Sun Belt Action. The Ragin Cajuns fell to 10-5 in league play. They’ll play Texas State tomorrow on the road. ULM had an easy time with the Bobcats last night coming away with a 76-57 win — the fourth straight for the Warhawks who play UT Arlington tomorrow. Louisiana Tech got their 20th win on the season after beating Texas San Antonio 87-74. The Bulldogs travel to take on UTEP tomorrow.

Also Saturday LSU travels to face Tennessee after coming off a tough loss to Alabama this week.

The NBA trade deadline hit and the Pelicans are keeping Ryan Anderson and Eric Gordon. New Orleans hosts the 76ers tonight.

Apple is fighting the federal government over accessing iPhones and the ruling could have implications on murder case in Baton Rouge. 29-year-old Brittney Mills was shot and killed last April after answering a knock at her door. Baton Rouge investigators believe her phone has information that could answer questions surrounding the case, but they are unable to access it. East Baton Rouge District Attorney Hillar Moore is glad the feds are forcing Apple experts to assist in these kind of investigations.

 The FBI has received a court order for Apple to hack into a phone used by one of the shooters in the San Bernandino terrorist attack. Apple says it could lead to privacy issues for its customers. Moore wonders if this court order could also impact the Mills investigation, because at this point they can’ get in her phone..

Police are cautious to keep trying incorrect passcodes, because after 10 failed attempts, the phone will erase all of the stored data. Moore says the inability to check information on Mills’ phone has bogged down their investigation…

Schedler encourages people to check out GeauxVote-dot-com to see what will appear on their ballot.

A federal judge in New Orleans has rejected former Saints star Darren Sharper’s plea deal. Sharper who is accused of drugging and raping women in several states was hoping to get a nine-year sentence, but Judge Jane Triche Milazzo says the punishment doesn’t fit the crime. Legal analyst Chick Foret says Sharper has three options in front of him…

Judge Milazzo had said the accusations against Sharper should lead to a 15 to 20 year prison sentence if found guilty.

 

State Police has charged a St. Mary Parish man with 18 counts of attempted murder of a police officer. 50-year-old Derrick Bodin of Baldwin was taken into custody after extenstive investigation. Authorities say Bodin shot at multiple officers who came to the aid of a shooting victim on December 27th .

 

 

Department of Children and Family Services Secretary Marketa Garner Walters says her agency needs 15-million dollars or she’ll be forced to furlough and layoff employess, which would impact adults and children who are in need…

According to a poll of the SEC baseball coaches, the LSU Tigers are projected to finish in second place in the SEC West, behind Texas A-and-M. Starting pitcher Alex Lange is a preseason 1st team all-sec selection. The Tigers open the season tomorrow night against Cincinnati. LSU Coach Paul Mainieri said today that shortstop Trey Dawson may not play in the season opener because of pink eye.

Sixth ranked UL Lafayette is at home to take on Sam Houston State. The defending champs in the Southland Conference, Southeastern Louisiana, will host ULM for three games in Hammond.

The NBA trade deadline came and went and the Pelicans did NOT trade Ryan Anderson, even though there was a lot of interest in the veterans. The Pels did make one move by acquiring power forward Jarnell Stokes from the Miami Heat for a future second round pick.
