The number one ranked LSU Tigers advance to the SEC Baseball Tournament Semifinals after a 10-5 win over Arkansas. LSU took advantage of six Razorback errors in the game. The Tigers will next face either Florida or Arkansas in the second semifinal game Saturday afternoon.

In the Sun Belt…the Ragin Cajuns stayed alive with a 12-8 win over Troy. U-L Lafayette tallied six runs in the second inning. Greg Davis blasted a two-run homer and Stefan Trosclair of Sulphur hit a three run shot. They’ll play Texas-Arlington tonight at 6:30 PM.

In the Southland Tournament…Northwestern State eliminated Nicholls State 4-3. The Demons scored all of their runs in the 5th inning and will face Central Arkansas this morning. Southeastern Louisiana eliminated McNeese State 3-2 in 12 innings. The Lions scored the go-ahead run on an RBI groundout. Southeastern take on Texas A&M-Corpus Christi at noon.

Louisiana Tech announces changes to its 2016 non-conference football schedule as they drop Mississippi State and Texas A-and-M and add Texas Tech and UMASS. UMASS will make a return trip to Ruston in 2019. The Bulldogs will round out the 2016 non-conference schedule with an FCS Opponent.

Grambling State has released its 2015 football schedule. The Tigers open the season with a game at Cal on September 5th. G-S-U will play four games on campus, hosting Bethune Cookman, Alabama A-and-M, Mississippi Valley State and Texas Southern.

The Saints announce they’ve signed first round pick Andrus Peat to a four-year contract. The offensive tackle was selected with the 13th overall pick out of Stanford. Peat was named a first-team All-American by several news organizations last season and was an Outland Trophy semifinalist.

The Pelicans Anthony Davis has been named to the All-NBA first team. The Pels also announces that Tyreke Evans has undergone successful arthroscopic surgery on his right knee.

The Metropolitan Crime Commission has asked the state Attorney General’s office to investigate the sentence of the Destrehan High School teacher who had sex with one of her students. Shelley Dufresene admitted to the act in exchange for no jail time and not having to register as a sex offender. Legal analyst Tim Meche says the MCC President should know better than to call for this investigation….:

Dufresne was originally charged with felony carnal knowledge of a juvenile but pleaded down to a misdemeanor obscenity charge as part of the deal. The MCC wants the AG’s office to look into whether St. Charles Parish DA Joel Chaisson committed any criminal violations with regards to the plea. Meche says if the MCC believes a criminal act occurred they should report it to federal authorities…:

Dufresne is the daughter of a sitting judge in the 29th District and the entire bench recused themselves in the matter but Chaisson did not. There are many people who say Dufresne got off easy and if the teacher would have been male and the student female then the outcome would have been much different. Meche says people are entitled to their opinion but this move is a classic case of political grandstanding…:

A politically charged amendment was added to the budget during the debate. The measure would require the governor’s office and not State Police to pay for troopers, when Jindal makes out-of-state campaign trips. Monroe Representative Katrina Jackson is in full support…

(The amendment passed on a 55-35 vote, but could be removed by the Senate or Jindal can use his line-item veto power on the legislation. )

The leader of the state democratic party, New Orleans Senator Karen Peterson, says she can’t believe Jindal would issue the order, when businesses and the tourism industry expressed concern the measure could alienate visitors or keep conventions away…:

Major Doug Cain says an electrical panel fire has disabled all automated systems at the Department of Public Safety, including OMV locations statewide. That word came down today…

LSU grad and prominent Democratic Party figure, James Carville, appeared on the Jim Engster Show and said he wishes the governor would focus on bigger issues impacting the state.

AAA is saying more people will be on the roads this Memorial Day Weekend than they have in the last 10 years. They say people are feeling more confident about the economy, and the low gas prices are also encouraing them. Spokesman Don Redman says it’s estimated more than 37 million Americans will travel more than 50 miles from home; 33 million of those by car.

The LSU baseball team goes after its ninth straight SEC Tournament victory tonight as they face Arkansas. The Tigers had to rally back from two five-run deficits to beat Auburn nine to eight alst night. Austin Bain will start for LSU tonight, hopefully he’ll have a better outing than last night’s starter. Jared Poche lasted just one inning as he gave up five runs. First pitch is expected around eight P-M.

There’s community reaction coming out about the case of a former Iberville Parish teacher of the year at the Math, Science and Arts Academy West in Plaquemine. Sheriff Brett Stassi says thirty year-old Keavin Keith is accused of having sex with at least three victims, and apparently causing a 15 year-old to become pregnant…

Keith was arrested on 30 counts of prohibited sex with a student, and is also charged with two counts of indecent behavior with juveniles and five counts of felony carnal knowledge.

With all of the travel miles Governor Bobby Jindal is logging, state lawmakers in the House voted to have the governor’s office to pay for the State Police Security detail in his out-of-town travel, instead of State Police. For next year’s budget, Jindal would be on the hook for the money, and have make cuts within his own office.

An Acadia Parish woman has been arrested on charges in connection with the death of her newborn. The baby girl went into cardiac arrest after she was born at home, then died at the hospital. The toxicology report showed high levels of methamphetamine, and Acadia Parish Sheriff’s Office Spokesperson Maxine Trahan says the case then went to the grand jury…

A fire at the Office of Motor Vehicles data center has shut down all transactions at DMV’s across the state today. State Police say all they can do at this point is turn people away. They are hopeful everything she be up and running shortly, but it may be tomorrow before transactions can resume.

The teacher who was arrested in Iberville Parish for allegedly having sex with three of his students, apparently fathered a child of one of the victim’s when she was 15-years-old. 30-year-old Keavin Keith was arrested Monday on 30 counts of prohibited sex with a student. Sheriff Brett Stassi says one of the victim’s claims Keith got her pregnant…:

Keith was also charged with two counts of indecent behavior with juveniles and five counts of felony carnal knowledge. Stassi says at lease one other victim told detectives that she engaged in oral sex with Keith inside his classroom at Iberville’s Math, Science and Arts Academy-West in Plaquemine. He says this is an unfortunate case…:

Stassi says they got a statement from Keith when he was arrested and he admitted to investigators that he’d had sex with the students. He says they’ve been getting reaction from the community on both sides of this case…:(Keith was named teacher of the year in 2013.)

The Acadia Parish Sheriff’s Office announce that a woman wanted for the death of her infant daughter has been arrested in Lafayette. Spokesperson Maxine Trahan says the baby had a heart attack after being born then doctors discovered meth in the toxicology reports. She says the case against the mother, 26-year-old Katie Chriceol (Cry-sol) went before a grand jury last week…:

Trahan says Chriceol was located and arrested in Lafayette Wednesday and booked on a charge of second degree murder.

In Houma cops are searching for a woman they believe spread thumbtacks all over the bed of her ex-boyfriend, then poured boiling water on top of him while he was sleeping. They say 36-year-old Lynette Joseph is wanted for questioning in the crime of aggravated 2nd degree battery. According to a news release, the victim suffered severe burns to his torso, right arm and face and had to be shipped to the burn center in Baton Rouge.
