Raheem Appleby and Kenneth Smith each scored 17 as Louisiana Tech drummed UTEP 77-60 last night in Ruston. Erik McCree added a double-double of 14 points and 12 rebounds as the Bulldogs take over sole possession of first place in Conference USA. Tech is 22-7 on the season and 13-3 in conference play with two league games remaining on their schedule. The Bulldogs host Texas-San Antonio tomorrow night.

ULM got 18 points from Justin Roberson as they crushed South Alabama 75-57. Tylor Ongwae and Majok Deng each added 14 as the Warhawks improve to 19-9 overall and 13-4 in Sun Belt play. ULM remains tied with Georgia Southern for first place in the conference. The Warhawks remain on the road to take on Appalachian State Saturday.

Jake Fraley’s eighth inning two run triple lifted LSU to a 9-8 victory over Southeastern Louisiana last night at Alex Box Stadium. The Tigers jumped out to a 7-1 lead before the Lions clawed back to take the lead in the seventh. LSU used six pitchers in the game with Collin Strall picking up the win. Pat Cashman will take the loss for Southeastern. The Tigers host Princeton for a weekend series beginning tonight at 7PM.

The LSU men’s basketball team looks to extend its winning streak to three games on Saturday when they host Ole Miss. The Rebels are led by five-foot-ten guard Stefan Moody, who is averaging 16 and a half points a game. Tigers Coach Johnny Jones Ole Miss likes to create shots for Moody by running him off screens…

LSU has been led lately by Jarell Martin who is coming off a 25-point performance against Auburn.

The Southeastern Conference has placed some recruiting restrictions on LSU’s football program as a result of an unnamed LSU recruit, who planned on enrolling at the university in January, but decided not to. The recruit signed a financial aid agreement with LSU, which gave the Tigers unlimited contact with him. But since he decided to not attend LSU, that unlimited contact is now considered illegal. The penalties include fewer recruiting evaluation days this year and LSU can’t sign early enrollee recruits to financial aid agreements for the next two years.

Cleco’s shareholders have approved the sale of the Pineville-based company, but the Public Service Commission still has to give its consent. A North American investor group led by Macquarie Infrastructure and Real Assets and by British Columbia Investment Corporation is seeking to purchase the utility company. PSC Commissioner Clyde Holloway says he will study this proposed merger carefully…

Ouachita Parish Superintendent Bob Webber the ideal option is to make school days longer, but they may need to add days to the calendar. He says in his 13 and a half years as Superintendent, he’s never seen more than 2 inclement weather days in a row…:

In college baseball tonight…LSU will host Southeastern Louisiana. Doug Norman will start on the mound for the Tigers and he’ll be opposed by junior left-hander Domenick Carlini.

The weather is forcing several changes to the college baseball schedule. ULM and Louisiana Tech will not play Friday, but they’ll host doubleheaders on Saturday.

Slidell Police detective Daniel Seuzenau says Flower poured the beer the down the infant’s throat, because he thought it was funny. That’s when the grandfather called police…

Tommy Carnline says they first got the complaint on December 1st of last year…:(Carnline says the alleged inappropriate sexual conduct occurred while Reed was off duty and it was outside the City of Alexandria.)

There is a couple in Slidell under arrest accused of pouring beer down the throat of a 1-year-old child. Cops say 24-year-old Brett Flower and, the baby’s mother, 23-year-old Krysten Verdin are booked with cruelty to juveniles. Investigators got the complaint from the grandfather of the child. The suspects were booked into the St. Tammany Parish jail.
