Cold Canadian air has settled over Louisiana leaving us with another chilly Mardi Gras day. State Climatologist Barry Keim says southeast Louisiana should brace for temperatures today in the upper 30s this morning, then high temperatures this afternoon only in the upper 40s…:

He says if you’re headed to parades today anywhere in the state, it might be a good idea to bring an umbrella just in case but you probably won’t need it.

One of the state’s more unique Mardi Gras traditions happens in the Calcasieu Parish town of Iowa. The Iowa Chicken Run is an all day celebration that begins and ends at the Knights of Columbus Hall. Organizer, Rodney Victorian, says his grandfather started this event 36 years ago…

The parade will will stop at participating homes to collect ingredients for a gumbo that will be served later in the day. When a donation to the gumbo is made, a chicken is thrown in the air for the children to catch.

Hardy says the style of parade — floats and costumes and masks — did in fact start in Mobile, but they didn’t roll on Mardi Gras day until 11 years after New Orleans did. He says Mobile enjoys the second largest and longest running parade season in America, but New Orleans has the biggest celebration in the world…:

Governor Bobby Jindal says $4.5 million dollars will be provided to ULM, Louisiana Tech and Grambling for additional computer science programs to help meet IBM’s workforce needs and keep Louisiana graduates in the state. Mayo says big companies are attracted to CenturyLink which has corporate headquarters in Monroe…:

The LSU men’s basketball team is at Texas A-and-M looking to pick up another win on the road tonight. About a month ago, the Tigers hosted the Aggies and blew a double-digit lead and lost by three points to A-and-M. Sophomore guard Tim Quarterman they learned a tough lesson that day

LSU has played well on the road. They are 4-2 in league games away from the PMAC and 6-2 in true road games overall. Quarterman says they have the mindset they can win on any team’s floor

The Tigers have won two of their last three. Last week they lost top ranked Kentucky by two points and beat Tennessee by 18 on the Volunteers home floor. LSU’s Jarell Martin says the team’s confidence is high

Mayo says this announcement is in addition to the 800+ jobs coming to the CenturyLink technology center which will open in March.

State Police say two people have died in a crash involving a truck and a train in DeSoto Parish. They say the vehicle was hit by the train and a third person is critically injured at the University Health Center in Shreveport. It is not known why the truck was on the tracks but the investigation is ongoing.

It’s been a wet and dreary Lundi Gras and even though meteorologists say the rain should be gone by tomorrow, it’s still going to be a very cold Mardi Gras across the state. They say Fat Tuesday will be breezy and cold and it appears clouds could linger for most of the day if not the entire day.

LSU right-hander Alex Lange has been named SEC freshman pitcher of the week. The Missouri native threw five shutout innings on Saturday, allowing just two hits and striking out seven in a Tigers victory over Kansas.

In high school football news…Calvary Baptist quarterback Shea Patterson will announce his verbal committment tomorrow. Patterson is considered one of the best high school quarterbacks in the country as he heads into his senior season. He’s reportedly considering LSU, Ole Miss and USC. He’s led the Cavaliers to state championships the last two years.

The girls high school basketball playoff brackets came out today. Here are your number one seeds in the seven classes, starting with Class C and heading on up. Summerfield, Florien, North Central, Pickering, U-High, Warren Easton and Ponchatoula. The state championship games will once again be played in Lake Charles during the first week of March.

The LSU men’s basketball team leaves today for College Station, where they’ll play Texas A-and-M tomorrow night. The Tigers 18-and-7 overall. The braketologists have LSU in the NCAA Tournament, but sophomore forward Jarell Martin says he’s not paying attention to what the so-called experts are saying…

LSU is listed anywhere from a nine seed to a 11-seed based on the various projections for the Field of 68.

In college basketball action tonight…Northwestern State hosts Central Arkansas, Southeastern Louisiana looks for its fourth straight win as they visit McNeese State. In the SWAC…Grambling hosts Prairie View and Southern is at Mississippi Valley State.

And with ULM’s win on Saturday over Appalachian State, the Warhawks have clinched a spot in the Sun Belt Conference Tournament.

She says State Police in partnering with other local law enforcement, is working to keep revelers safe during Mardi Gras.

The Attorney for Houston-based Texas Brine has reportedly asked the Louisiana Office of Conservation to grant permission for the company to stop paying $875 a week to the remaining residents in Bayou Corne around the sinkhole. They say the case has been made that stability conditions around the sinkhole have improved and merit an end to the payments.

Governor Bobby Jindal is headed to north Louisiana today where it’s expected he’ll make an economic development announcement in Monroe which would mean 400 new IBM jobs for the area over the next 10 years. The announcement is also expected to include details about $4.5 million dollars that will be provided to ULM, Louisiana Tech and Grambling for additional computer science programs to help meet IBM’s workforce needs and keep Louisiana graduates in the state.
