If you’re behind on state taxes there’s another amnesty period coming up. Louisiana Department of Revenue Secretary Tim Barfield says unlike last year, this time tax payers can opt into an installment plan and pay over seven payments. He says amnesty begins October 15th and runs through November 14th…:

He says they collected about $425 million delinquent taxes last year and hope to get about $104 million in 2014.

US Senator Mary Landrieu and 2nd Congressional District Rep. Cedric Richmond got together yesterday to endorse each other in their respective races, but the state’s highest Democratic elected official declined to officially endorse Former Governor Edwin Edwards in his Congressional run. Landrieu says Edwards is running his campaign and she’s running hers.

Police in Vinton say they are investigating the fatal stabbing of a man allegedly at the hands of his neighbor. They say Daniel Kight is booked with second degree murder in the death of 56-year-old David Scasino of Vinton. Apparently the two had a past history of having disputes where cops had to get involved. Kight’s being held on $500,000 bond.

A new Veterans Cemetery will be built in Rayville after a $7.3 million dollar grant was approved to fund the site. Louisiana Department of Veterans Affairs Secretary David Lacerte says the property is located near I-20 off Highway 425 and spans about 50 acres. He says they hope to have the cemetery complete Spring 2016…:

Judge Edward Rubin’s made his ruling in a lawsuit filed by a same-sex couple requesting the state recognize their marriage certificate from California.

The state Department of Veterans Affairs says they’ve been approved for a grant to fund a State Veterans Cemetery in Rayville. Secretary David LaCerte says the $7.3 million dollars will fund 100% of the costs to develop the cemetery. He says the property is located near I-20 off Highway 425 and spans about 50 acres…:

New Orleans Police are investigating the discovery of the deaths of a young child and a woman whose bodies were along Interstate 10. They say the bodies were at I-10 W along the Old Gentilly on ramp. The cause of death is undetermined at this time. Crews cutting the grass called police after making the discovery. Initial reports indicate the the woman and child had been there for several days.

According to a study by the state, tolls starting at 18 cents a mile could fund up to half of the $3 million dollar project which would finish I-49 South from Lafayette to New Orleans. Those pushing for the interstate to become a reality say the study proves tolls combined with federal and state dollars could make it actually happen.

A weekend four-wheeling accident has killed two people, and has injured a juvenile on Highway 35 and Clint Road near Kaplan. Vermillion Parish Sheriff Mike Couvillion says the ATV apparently ran a stop sign, went airborne, then crashed into a ditch.
