The Southeastern Conference has suspended Mississippi State offensive lineman Dillon Day for one game, because of “multiple flagrant and unsportsmanlike acts” in the Bulldogs win over LSU. ESPN’s broadcast showed Day stomping on LSU’s Davon Godchaux and Rashard Robinson on separate plays, but never penalized. Day will miss the Bulldogs game against Texas A-and-M on october fourth.

LSU Coach Les Miles plans to give backup quarterback Brandon Harris more playing time on Saturday against New Mexico State. Miles liked how Harris led the Tigers to three fourth quarter touchdowns against the Bulldogs…

Former LSU Tiger and Giants first round pick Odell Beckham Junior is catching passes in practice. Beckham hasn’t been able to get a full-day of practice with New York, because of a hamstring injury.

In other NFL news…former LSU Tiger Lavar Edwards has signed with the Dallas Cowboys. Former Tiger and McNeese State star Nic Jacobs was signed off of the Saints practice squad by Jacksonville. And former Ragin Cajuns defensive back Ike Taylor will miss six to eight weeks with a broken arm.

Conference USA announces six Louisiana Tech men’s basketball games will be televised this season. Four of the six TV games will take place at the Thomas Assembly Center. One of those televised games will be February 26th against UTEP and it will air nationally on Fox Sports One.

And the Pelicans unveiled an alternate uniform today. It’s red with blue trim and the first time they’ll wear them is opening night on October 28th against the Orlando Magic.

There’s a new president of Northwestern State University, and his name is James Henderson, who is the current Chancellor of Bossier Parish Community College. The unanimous decision from the Board of Supervisors for the University of Louisiana System came down today. Henderson has been serving as BPCC since 2009. His first day on the job at Northwestern State is January 1st.

A new state funded feasibility study found that tolls could pay for up to 50 percent of the $3 billion dollars it would take to complete I-49 South from Lafayette to New Orleans. Franklin Senator Bret Allain is one of the founders of the I-49 South Coalition which is pushing to make the project a reality. He’s disappointed the study didn’t show tolls would pay for a bigger portion of I-49 South…:

The indictment accuses Greenstein of lying about his involvement in the award of a now-cancelled state government contract of nearly $200 million. The perjury allegations are tied to sworn testimony before a state Senate confirmation hearing and at a grand jury investigation of that contract. Greenstein’s lawyer says his client did not lie and will plead not guilty.

In WalletHub’s list of Most and Least Happy States in America, Louisiana ranks 39th in terms of happiness. The report looked at 26 factors and the Bayou State ranked near or at the bottom in terms of obesity, volunteerism, divorce rate, and participation in sports. The report says Utah is the happiest state in America and West Virginia the least happy.

Judge Edward Rubin made his ruling in a lawsuit filed by a same-sex couple requesting the state recognize their marriage certificate from California. Legal analyst Tim Meche says he expects the judge or the Louisiana Supreme Court to stay the ruling…

According to a state funded feasibility study, tolls could fund up to half of a $3 billion project which would finish I-49 South from Lafayette to New Orleans. Those pushing for the completion of the interstate say the study show tolls, combined with federal and state monies could make the highway a reality. The study calculated figures assuming tolls start at 18-cents a mile and then rise to 25-cents a mile over 15 years.

The head coach says you can expect to see more of linebacker Kendell Beckwith and back-up quarterback Brandon Harris. He says sophomore defensive lineman Lewis Neal is another guy who will get more snaps based on what he did against the Bulldogs…

Miles says junior defensive tackle Quentin Thomas will miss a week or two after injuring his arm.

Louisiana Tech is also trying to rebound after suffering a tough loss on Saturday. The Bulldogs lost to Northwestern State on a last-second field goal and this Saturday they visit fifth ranked Auburn. Auburn has a couple of extra days to prepare for the Bulldogs since they played last Thursday.

The Saints are off today as they will get back to work tomorrow to prepare for the Dallas Cowboys. It looks like New Orleans will be without starting center Jonathan Goodwin for the next few weeks. The veteran has reportedly suffered a high ankle sprain. Second-year pro Tim Lelito, who battled with Goodwin in training camp for the starting spot, should get the start against the Cowboys.

In the high school football polls…Many is the new number one team in Two-A. Calvary Baptist fell from the top spot after losing to Byrd, who is now ranked third in the Five-A poll. Rummel is ranked number one in Five-A, followed by Destrehan.

And according to Collegiate baseball….LSU has the top recruiting class in the country. The incoming recruiting class features five players who were selected in the Major League Baseball Draft last June, but chose to attend LSU and the class also features five high school All-americans.

A Lafayette district judge has ruled that Louisiana’s ban on same-sex marriage is unconstitutional. It is reported that the state’s Attorney General’s Office has already initiated an appeal to Judge Edward Rubin’s ruling. Legal analyst Tim Meche expects this to go to the Louisiana Supreme Court. He says there is one big reason he believes the Supreme Court will overturn this ruling…

The Louisiana Department of Revenue is gearing up to offer Louisiana tax payers another amnesty period. Revenue Secretary Tim Barfield says the amnesty period runs from October 15 to November 14. He says, if you owe back taxes, you may want to take part in this or next year’s amnesty period…
