A 27-year-old Lafayette woman has been arrested in connection with the death of her ill 3-year-old daughter. The Lafayette Police Department’s investigation determined Sara Leblanc’s daughter went over 24 hours without food or fluids before she died. Leblanc has been charged with negligent homicide in her daughter’s death.

New research provided to the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries shows Louisiana Black Bear populations are making great strides toward recovery. Large Carnivore Program Manager, Maria Davidson, says they’ve learned there are at least 250 female bears in the state, which is a good number…

The New Orleans Police Department is still searching for the gunman who opened fire on a house in the Lower Ninth Ward that killed two and injured five, including two young children. 33-year-old Terrance McBride and 16-year-old Jasmine Anderson were killed in the shooting. Police Chief Ronal Serpas says McBride was a felon in possession of a firearm facing charges on that plus distribution of heroin. He says this case does not appear to be a gang member involved event…

The U.S. Coast Guard says a 623-foot-long bulk freighter lost power and steering control and crashed into an oil tanker and a barge early this morning in Gretna. The say a vessel carrying grains acted up near the Gretna ferry landing and struck another vessel that was fueling up. They say some oil spilled into the river but there is no threat to water supply. The incident is under investigation.

According to figures from the World Trade Center of New Orleans, Louisiana exports are up 9.3 percent during the first half of the year. That’s to $32.1 billion. This keeps Louisiana in 6th place in the US in exports having accounted for 3.6 percent of the $804 billion nationwide through midyear.

NOPD is asking for the public’s help in locating the gunman who were in a vehicle when they opened fire on a house in the 9th ward over the weekend. The shooting killed 2 and injured 5 including two young children. Police Chief Ronal Serpas says they now believe they know who was in the vehicle with the shooter…:

The politically-heated dispute over Louisiana’s use of the Common Core education standards was heard in a state district courtroom Tuesday. The case involves a lawsuit filed by parents and teachers who support Common Core and accuse the governor of violating the state Constitution in his actions against the multi-state standards. Judge Todd Hernandez will rule on the motions after he weighs out everything. No date was given on when a ruling is expected.
