The Ascension Parish Sheriff’s Office Chief Deputy has confirmed this afternoon the body that was found Thursday afternoon along the levee at Donaldsonville is that of 15 year-old Brandon Augusta. Authorities do suspect foul play, and anyone with information should call Crimestoppers.

While this hurricane season has been very light so far, today many people are remembering the anniversary date of Hurricane Camille slamming into the Gulf Coast 45 years ago today. Camille was one of the most destructive storms in US history, killing an estimated 150 people.

Authorities say inside the vehicle with 41-year-old Michael Pierce and his 34-year-old wife, Melanie, were there children, ages 4 and 11 months. They say, when questioned, the couple admitted to injecting heroin earlier in the day. The suspects were charged with child endangerment and several drug related charges.

Louisiana State Police say a traffic accident on Louisiana Highway 421 in Ascension Parish has claimed the life of a pedestrian. Authorities say the incident happened before noon today and they have confirmed one fatality, so far. Highway 421 has been shut down in both directions between LA 934 and LA 621 in St. Amant while police investigate.

A Rayville tax preparer is facing 18 felony counts of suspected fraud associated with his work. Donald Ray Jackson was arrested accused of filing fraudulent income tax returns containing fabricated business losses. In fact, seven of his clients told authorities that they didn’t own businesses. Jackson’s alleged crimes cost state taxpayers more than $325,000 in fraudulent income tax refunds.

After missing the first two preseason games because of an oblique injury, Saints quarterback Drew Brees is expected to play in Saturday’s exhibition contest against the Indianapolis Colts. Brees practiced fully yesterday afternoon. Safety Jairus Byrd is expected to have his first full practice today as he continues to recover from offseason back surgery. Also, Saints tight end Jimmy Graham says he will not dunk the football through the goal posts during the regular season, after being flagged twice in Friday’s preseason game.

LSU Freshman defensive tackle Travonte Valentine has reportedly been cleared to participate in practice by the NCAA clearinghouse. Valentine is a four-star prospect out of the state of Florida.

ULM Football Coach Todd Berry has named North Carolina State transfer Pete Thomas as his starting quarterback for the August 28th season opener against Wake Forest. Thomas beat out Brayle Brown and Earnest Carrington.

Big things are expected from the Ragin Cajuns offense as quarterback Terrence Broadway is returning for his senior season. But UL Lafayette Coach Mark Hudspeth says sophomore running back Elijah McGuire has also looked good in preseason camp….
