Tonight in Salt Lake City, Utah, the McNeese men’s basketball program looks for its first NCAA Tournament when it takes on Gonzaga.

In college baseball last night…The Cajuns scored three runs in the eighth inning to beat McNeese four to one, Louisiana Tech topped Nicholls six to four. Northwestern State lost to Sam Houston State five to two, and Louisiana Tech softball beat U-L Lafayette 5 to 3. The Bulldogs ended their 31 game winning streak to U-L.

The SEC released the conference opponents for every team in the league for the 2025 football season. It’s the same as 2024 except the home teams are flipped. In 2024, LSU hosts Alabama, Vanderbilt. Ole Miss and Oklahoma, they will travel to those schools in 2025 and host Florida, South Carolina, Texas A-and-M and Arkansas. The 2025 road schedule is brutal with trips to Tuscaloosa, Oxford, Norman, Oklahoma and LSU opens the season at Clemson.

Garrett Nussmeier is expected to be LSU’s starting quarterback in 2024. Nussmeier knows he can’t run like Jayden Daniels, but he’ll make some plays with his legs…

The LSU men’s basketball season came to an end last night with an 84-77 defeat to North Texas in the first round of the NIT. Second chance points were the difference, the Mean Green had 17 to LSU’s nine.

The Pelicans won again last night as they defeated the Brooklyn Nets 104 to 91. Another strong game for Zion Williamson who had 28 points and seven boards.

LSU’s pitching staff rebounded last night from a rough weekend in Starkville. The 5th ranked Tigers held Louisiana Tech to five hits in an 11 to 1 run rule victory over the Bulldogs. Seven pitchers took the mound and only one gave up a run was the starter, Javen Coleman. Coach Jay Johnson liked what he saw from his pitchers…

Tommy White hit his fourth home run in as many games. Jared Jones and Hayden Travinski also went yard.

The Ragin Cajuns run ruled Southern 17 to 7, ULM ended a long homestand with an 11 to four loss to Central Arkansas.

Newly signed Saints defensive end Chase Young needs surgery on his neck. New Orleans knew about this before they signed him. Young is expected to be ready for the start of the regular season.

Tech is coming off a sweep over Northwestern State. Ethan Bates, Cole McConnell and Dalton Davis are all having good seasons at the plate for the Bulldogs.

Inside the PMAC at six PM, the LSU basketball team will take on North Texas in a first round NIT matchup. The Tigers and Mean Green met in November at a tournament in Charleston and LSU won 66-62. North Texas won the NIT last year and the winner of this game will get the winner of tomorrow night’s game between Seton Hall and ST. Joseph’s.

The Saints have signed defensive end Chase Young to a one-year contract. The 24-year-old was the number two overall pick in the 2020 NFL draft. He’s played four NFL seasons and this will be his third team. He was drafted by Washington and traded to San Francisco on November first. Young signed his deal after visiting with Saints officials yesterday….

ESPN’s Adam Schefter reports Young needs surgery on his neck. The Saints are aware this procedure needs to get done and that Young could miss the start of training camp, but should be ready for the regular season.

The LSU Tigers dropped from two to number five in the D-1 baseball poll after losing the opening SEC series. Mississippi State scored 33 runs and the Tigers committed six errors as dropped two out of three in Starkville. Coach Jay Johnson says they scored enough runs to win a series on the road, but didn’t pitch well enough and the errors were also costly…

The Tigers will host Louisiana Tech tonight. The Bulldogs are coming off a sweep over Northwestern State and Tech is 16-5 on the season.

Also tonight, the Ragin Cajuns host Southern. U-L Lafayette has won six of its last eight and they will play 15 of its next 18 at home.

ULM closes out an eight game homestand tonight as they will take on Central Arkansas at 6 PM.

The Pelicans begin a four game road trip tonight at Brooklyn. New Orleans is one game back of the Clippers for the fourth spot in the Western Conference.

The LSU men’s basketball team will host North Texas tonight in the first round of the N-I-T. The Tigers beat the Mean Green 66-62 at a tournament in South Carolina in November.

The Saints have signed defensive end Chase Young to a one-year, 13-million dollar contract. Young is the former number two overall pick in the 2020 NFL draft. He was the Defensive Rookie of the Year in 2020 for Washington and was traded to San Francisco last year. He has 16.5 sacks in 43 career games. Young is is looking forward to playing with Cam Jordan…

Coach Kim Mulkey’s team beat Iowa in the national title game last year and UCLA holds its opponents to 60 points a game…

LSU will host the first two rounds of the NCAA Tournament. They will face Rice at 3 PM. If the Lady Tigers defeat the Owls, they’ll play either sixth-seeded Louisville or 11th-seeded Middle Tennessee.

The Bulldogs swept a series from Northwestern State this past weekend. U-L Lafayette baseball won two of three at Arkansas State, ULM lost its series with Troy.

The second ranked LSU softball team lost its first game of the season last night falling to Ole Miss five to two.

For the first time in school history, the Grambling State men’s basketball team is headed to the NCAA Tournament. They received an automatic bid on Saturday when they defeated Texas Southern in the SWAC Tournament. The Tigers will play Montana State on Wednesday in Dayton, Ohio.

McNeese is the 12th seed in the Midwest Region and will face 5th seeded Gonzaga in the first round of the NCAA men’s basketball tournament. The game will be played on Thursday night at 6:25 in Salt Lake City. Coach Will Wade has led the Cowboys to their first NCAA Tournament appearance since 2002 and they’ll play a Gonzaga team ranked 17th in the AP poll…

Rough weekend for the second ranked LSU baseball team in Starkville. The Tigers dropped two of three to Mississippi State losing the series finale 15-5. LSU pitching gave up 33 runs. The Tigers will host La Tech on Tuesday. The Bulldogs swept Northwestern State.

The LSU Lady Tigers are a three-seed in the Albany Two Regional. Iowa and UCLA are the top two seeds.

LSU will host the first two rounds of the NCAA Tournament. They will face Rice, who won the American Athletic Conference Tournament as a ten-seed. If the Lady Tigers defeat the Owls, they’ll play either sixth-seeded Louisville or 11th-seeded Middle Tennessee who easily won the Conference USA regular season and conference titles. Louisville is LSU point guard Hailey Van Lith’s former team. Coach Kim Mulkey expects Van Lith will handle it well

The ULM and Grambling State Women’s Basketball teams are in the WNIT Tournament. They will find out their opponents later today.

The second ranked LSU softball team lost its first game of the season last night falling to Ole Miss five to two. U-L Lafayette baseball won two of three at Arkansas State, ULM lost its series with Troy.

Tough start to conference play for the second ranked LSU Tigers as they lost to Mississippi State ten to four. LSU had six hits on the night as Bulldogs relief pitcher Nolan Stevens held the Tigers to one run over five and two-thirds innings. He also struck out eight. Luke Holman suffered his first loss, as he gave up five runs. Game two is at four PM today.

In other action. U-L Lafayette and ULM both lost. Louisiana Tech held on to beat Northwestern State eleven to nine. Nicholls fell to Nebraska seven to six.

The Saints have signed a couple of wide receivers. Cedric Wilson joins the Black and Gold after spending the last two seasons in Miami. He caught 22 passes last year and had three touchdowns. The Saints have also announced the signing of Stanley Morgan, who is a New Orleans native and a St. Aug alum. He was a special teams standout with the Bengals. He’s only caught five passes during his NFL career.

Fun game at the Smoothie King Center last night as the Pelicans defeated the Los Angeles Clippers 112 to 104. Zion Williamson had 34 points, seven rebounds, four assists and three steals. New Orleans is two games back of the Clippers for fourth place in the West.

Grambling is one win away from an NCAA Tournament berth as the Tigers topped Bethune Cookman 65-53. Grambling will face Texas Southern tonight at 8:30 for a berth into the NCAA Tournament.

At 7pm Sunday the LSU women’s basketball team will find out who they’ll play in the Tournament. The Lady Tigers are 28-and-5, two of their losses came against top ranked South Carolina. ESPN Bracketologist Charlie Creme says a third meeting with the Gamecocks will have to wait until the Final Four in Cleveland…
