Saints fans are not happy about a tweet sent out by former New Orleans tight end Jimmy Graham. The team traded defensive lineman Akiem Hicks to The Patriots and Graham posted that Hicks should feel blessed for getting out of New Orleans. The tweet was quickly deleted but screen shots are circling social media.

The 2016 Class of the Louisiana Sports Hall of Fame has been announced. The eight inductees are a star studded group of athletes and coaches like St. Thomas More coach Jim Hightower. Louisiana Sports Hall of Fame Chairman Doug Ireland says Hightower is the second winningest high school football coach in state history…:

Saints quarterback Drew Brees is optimistic he can play Sunday against the Dallas Cowboys. Brees missed last Sunday’s game because of a bruised rotator cuff. But the veteran QB says there was a bright spot to missing the game. Brees says he got a chance to see how the players pull for each other…

The Saints have traded defensive lineman Akiem Hicks to New England and former Saint Jimmy Graham sent out a tweet, telling Hicks he should feel blessed for getting out of New Orleans. The tweet was later deleted.

LSU running back Leonard Fournette has also taken to social media to tell the public how feels about the suggestion he should not play next season, so that he’s healthy for the NFL draft in 2017. In the tweet, Fournette said he’ll never jump ship.

The Louisiana Sports Hall of Fame has announced eight new inductees that will be part of the class of 2016. One of the headliners is four time Major League Baseball All-Star Pitcher, Ben Sheets, who starred at ULM. Hall of fame chairman Doug Ireland says Sheets also won an Olympic Gold Medal….

LSU fans are fired up about a suggestion from the website Pro Football Talk that it would be smart for LSU star running back Leonard Fournette to opt out of playing next year, so he doesn’t get injured and ruin his pro career. But NFL Analyst Mike Detillier says that kind of talk is ridiculous…:

And injured Southern football player Devon Gales begins a rigourous rehabilition program at a spinal cord injury facility in Atlanta today. Gales injured his neck while blocking on a kickoff return in last Saturday’s game against Georgia.

Brees says he took most of the reps at practice and he’ll continue to ramp up the volume leading up to the primetime game against the Cowboys.

And Brees has reportedly agreed to take a portion of his 2015 base salary and turn it into a signing bonus, which gives the team more financial flexibility this season. But it also pushes the hit on the salary cap for next year to 30-million dollars, which raises the question whether the Black and Gold can afford to keep the future Hall of Famer next year.

Southern University has announced that injured football player Devon Gales has been transferred from a hospital in Athens, Georgia to one in Atlanta. Gales sustained a spinal cord injury against Georgia last Saturday and a press release says he’ll begin a rigorous rehabilitation program tomorrow.

A debate has started over whether sophomore LSU running back Leonard Fournette should sit out next season, so that he’s 100-percent healthy for the 2017 NFL draft. The website Pro Football Talk has suggested that Fournette should bypass his junior season. NFL draft anlalyst Mike Detillier doesn’t see Fournette missing a season…

ESPN is reporting that Saints quarterback Drew Brees has agreed to convert part of his base salary into a signing bonus, which gives the team more financial flexibility to possibly make a roster move this year, as it clears up around two-point-six milion dollars in cap space. It also elevates his cap number to 30 million dollars in 2016, which is the highest in the NFL. Meanwhile, Brees is expected to throw at practice everyday this week as he attempts to return to action for Sunday’s game against Dallas.

Former LSU Tiger Tryann Mathieu has been named the NFC Defensive Player of the Week. Mathieu had two interceptions in a blowout win over the 49ers and returned one of the passes for a touchdown.

The LSU football team continues to get ready for Eastern Michigan. The Tigers are a 44.5 point favorite. There are some good games involving teams from the SEC West this weekend, Alabama is at Georgia, Arkansas travels Tennessee and Texas A-and-M hosts Mississippi State.

Louisiana Tech Coach Skip Holtz wants to see Joe Aillet Stadium sold out for Saturday’s game against UL Lafayette. For the fans that go to the game, they’ll see a Bulldog offense averaging 523 yards a game. But Bulldogs quarterback Jeff Driskel says there’s room for improvement…

ESPN’s Ed Werder reports Drew Brees’ throwing session went well today and the Saints quarterback expects to take some practice reps tomorrow. Brees hasn’t thrown in practice since suffering a bruised rotator cuff in Week 2. Earlier this week, Brees and Coach Sean Payton sounded optimstic that number nine will play this Sunday against Dallas.

Payton talked about the game against the Cowboys. He sees it as a good time to get their first win of the year…

Saints and Pelicans owner Tom Benson has moved up 76 spots on Forbes’ list of wealthiest people in the United States. According to Forbes, the 88-year-old Benson has a net worth of two-point-two billion dollars and comes in at number 307 on their list.

Heading into game number four, LSU is last in the SEC in pass offense, averaging just 100 yards through the air a game. But quarterback Brandon Harris is completing 62-percent of his passes and has not turned the ball over. Coach Les Miles expects the passing game will become more explosive…

According to a report from ESPN, Saints quarterback Drew Brees will throw the football around today to test his injured shoulder. According to ESPN’s Ed Werder, Brees hasn’t thrown since Friday. He missed last Sunday’s loss to Carolina and this Sunday the Saints host the Dallas Cowboys.

Saints and Pelicans owner Tom Benson has moved up 76 spots on Forbes’ list of wealthiest people in the United States. According to Forbes, the 88-year-old Benson has a net worth of two-point-two billion dollars and comes in at number 307 on their list.

Southern University has launched a fund to help provide financial assistance for wide receiver Devon Gales, who suffered a neck injury in the loss to Georgia. Gales underwent surgery Sunday in Athens and there’s been no news on his condition or prognosis. Contributions to the Devon Gales Fund can be made by visiting the Devon Gales Fund webpage.

After three games, LSU ranks last in the SEC in penalties, as they are avaraging 86 penalty yards a game. Coach Les Miles says yellow flags cost his squad two touchdowns in the win over Syracuse…

LSU running back Loenard Fournette has been named the Louisiana Sports Writers Association offensive player of the week. Fournette rushed for a career-high 244 yards and two touchdowns against Syracuse. Louisiana Tech senior linebacker Beau Fitte is the defensive player of the week as he was in on 14 tackles for the Bulldogs in a win over FIU. And Grambling’s Martez Carter is the Special Teams player of the week. He returned two kickoffs for a touchdown in a 70-54 win over Prairie View.

LSU’s Leonard Fournette is on his way to a record breaking season as he already has 631 rushing yards through the first three games of the season. He’s getting a chance to carry the football over 20 times a game and opposing defenses are keying on him. Coach Les Miles was asked if he plans on changing Fournette’s running style to avoid some punishment from opposing tacklers…

For a third straight week, Fournette was named SEC Offensive Player of the Week. The Tigers are preparing to face Eastern Michigan Saturday night at Tiger Stadium.

A fund has been set up by Southern University athletics and the Southern University System Foundation to help the family of injured Jaguars footbal player Devon Gales with medical expenses. Northwestern State is also looking for their first win on the season after losing to Central Arkansas 49-21. The Demons travel to El Paso to face Incarnate Word Saturday.

The LSU football team is 3-0, but Coach Les Miles knows there’s room for improvement. The Tigers are last in the Southeastern Conference in penalties, as they’ve been penalized 28 times for 258 yards, averaging 86 penalty yards a game, which is tied for seventh most in the country. Miles says they are trying to do something about all of the yellow flags…

In the last game against Syracuse, LSU was flagged 14 times for 120 yards.
