Five teams from Louisiana are in the NCAA Baseball Tournament. LSU will begin play on Friday at Alex Box Stadium by hosting Utah Valley. The Wolverines are out of the Western Athletic Conference and they boast a record of 37-21. Coach Paul Mainieri says Utah Valley has defeated some good teams along the way…:

Rice and Southeastern Louisiana are the other two teams in the Baton Rouge regional. LSU is seeded eighth nationally, so if they win the Baton Rouge regional, they’ll host a super regional series against the winner from the Raleigh Regional.

UL-Lafayette is also hosting a regional this weekend as they face Princeton on Friday at Tigue Moore Field. Arizona and Sam Houston State are the other two teams in the Lafayette Regional. Coach Tony Robichaux’s team brings a 10-game winning streak into the NCAA Tournament…:

Louisiana Tech is in the NCAA tournament for the first time in 29 years as the Bulldogs are the three-seed in the Starkville Regional hosted by Mississippi State. They will face Cal State Fullerton Friday.

And Tulane is the fifth school from Louisiana in the NCAA Baseball Tournament. The Green Wave is the two seed in the Oxford Regional.

LSU begins Regional play on Friday at 2 PM against Utah Valley, which won the Western Atheltic Conference Tournament title. Rice and Southeastern Louisiana are the other two teams in the Baton Rouge Regional. The Owls and Lions will play each other Friday night at 7 PM.

LSU’s regional is matched up with the North Carolina State regional. Coastal Carolina, St. Mary’s and Navy are the other teams in the Raleigh Regional.

The LSU Tigers are a national seed in the NCAA Baseball Tournament. Which means the Bayou Bengals will get to host a Super Regional, if they are able to win the Baton Rouge regional this weekend.

Four teams from the SEC received national seeds, Florida, Texas A-and-M and Mississippi State.

So here’s a look at the Baton Rouge Regional…LSU is the number one seed and they’ll play Utah Valley at 2 PM on Friday afternoon. The Wolverines won the Western Athletic Conference Tournament.

The number two seed is the Rice Owls and the three-seed is Southeastern Louisiana. Coach Matt Riser’s team gets in, despite losing to Sam Houston State seven to four in the Southland Tournament championship game. Rice and S-L-U will play each other on Friday night at 7 PM.

By the way LSU’s regional is matched up with the North Carolina State regional.

LSU and UL Lafayette have been selected as host sites for NCAA baseball regionals. It’s the fifth straight year the Tigers will host a regional and the third time it will happen for the Cajuns under head coach Tony Robichaux.

UL Lafayette gets to host after winning the Sun Belt Tournament Championship for a third consecutive year. The Cajuns blanked sixth seeded Georgia Southern five to nothing in San Marcos, Texas. Senior Nick Thurman homered and was named the Most Oustanding Player of the tournament. Sophomore Wyatt Marks earned the win by throwing seven scoreless innings.

We’ll find out who will play in the Baton Rouge and Lafayette regionals at 11 AM this morning. That’s when the 64-team bracket will be released. Louisiana Tech and Tulane are most likely in, while Southeastern Louisiana will have to wait anxiously after losing in the Southland Tournament championship game to Sam Houston State seven to four. The Lions record is 39-and-19.

The Pelicans organiziation remains in shock over the death of Bryce Dejean-Jones, who Dallas police say was fatally shot early Saturday morning after he broke into the wrong apartment. The 23-year-old Jones just signed a three-year contract with New Orleans. He was in Dallas for his daughter’s birthday and based on reports was trying to gain access to the apartment occupied by the child’s mother, but entered the wrong apartment and an alarmed resident shot him.

The LSU Softball squad is heading to the Women’s College World Series after winning its super regional series over James Madison. The Tigers had to win two games on Saturday to advance. They won the first game two to nothing, and three to two in game two. The Tigers first opponent in Oklahoma City will be Michigan on Thursday night at 8:30.

The LSU baseball team is enjoying a day off in Birmingham today. The Tigers have advanced to the semifinals of the SEC Tournament after winning three games this week. The Bayou Bengals beat Mississippi State six to two, behind strong pitching from Jared Poche and three RBIs from catcher Michael Papierski. LSU will play tomorrow against the winner of tonight’s game between Florida and Mississippi State.

In the Southland Conference today, McNeese State eliminated UNO 8-4 after a 13-inning battle with the Privateers. Freshman Shane Selman had four hits and 3 RBIs on the day. Selman had a two-out, two run triple in the 13th inning and Collin Kober picked up the win in relief. McNeese will face Southeastern tonight. The Lions blanked the Cowboys 10-0 yesterday.

And UL Lafayette doubled up Texas State four to two in the Sun Bel Tourney. The Cajuns will play again tomorrow against the winner of tonight’s game between Texas State and Arkansas State.

Former Saints defensive coordinator Rob Ryan told Monday Morning Quarterback that the defenses the last two seasons in New Orleans were not his, instead he was forced to try and mimic the Seattle Seawhawks defensive scheme. But Head Coach Sean Payton says it’s silly to think Ryan wasn’t in charge of the defense and added the Black and Gold struggled with fundamentals last season.

Ole Miss athletics director Ross Bjork and chancellor Jeffrey Vitter confirm serious violations have occurred within the Rebels athletic program. 13 of the allegations involve the football team, which is why the school has placed a self-imposed double-digit reduction in scholarships for football. Ole Miss is also asking for the NCAA to delay a hearing with the Committee on Infractions so they can determine if former offensive lineman Laremy Tunsil received improper benefits while playing for the Rebels.

The LSU softball team lost the first game of its super regional series with James Madison by the score of three to two. That means the Tigers will need to win twice tomorrow to advance to the College World Series.

Former Saints defensive coordinator Rob Ryan says the defense on the field in his last two years in New Orleans was not his. In an interview with the Monday Morning Quarterback, Ryan says the Saints tried to copy the Seahawks and blames himself for not telling Coach Sean Payton they should try to do something else. The Saints fired Ryan last November as the team finished next to last in total defense the last two seasons. Payton says it’s silly for Ryan to say he wasn’t in charge of the defense.

LSU Junior left-handed pitcher Jared Poche was on his game last night as the Tigers defeated Mississppi State six to two to advance to Saturday’s semifinals of the SEC Tournament. Poche won his 25th game at LSU as he gave up one earned run. Parker Bugg picked up his fourth save and sophomore catcher Michael Papierski drove in three runs. The Tigers will play tomorrow, the winner of tonight’s game between Mississippi State and Florida.

Louisiana Tech will look to stay alive in the Conference USA Tournament as they face Florida Atlantic this afternoon. The Bulldogs offense ahs been on a role as they’ve scored 10 or more runs in four of their last five games. Today’s meeting against the Owls is the first time Tech has faced F-A-U this year.

In the Southland Conference, UNO and McNeese State play this morning. Southeastern Louisiana plays the winner of that game this afternoon. The Lions blanked McNeese 10-0 yesterday in Sugar Land, Texas. Webb Bobo blasted a three-run homer in the victory.

UL-Lafayette plays Texas State in the Sun Belt Tournament.

The Cajuns softball team lost eight to two to Oklahoma in game one of their super regional series last night. Game two is tonight and LSU begins its Super Regional series with James Madison at two this afternoon.

After two dramatic comebacks, Jared Poche’ set out to give the now-famous rally possum an evening off. This earned LSU a well-deserved Friday off in Hoover. Poche’ stalled top-seeded Mississippi State over 6.2 innings to lead LSU to a 6-2 victory and earn a bye into Saturday’s SEC Tournament semifinals.

Louisiana Tech avoided elimination in the Conference USA Tournament with a 13-3 win over Charlotte. The Bulldogs had a season-high 18 hits and Tech has now scored at least 10 runs in four of the last five games. Casey Sutton threw his third complete game of the season. The Bulldogs play again this afternoon in Hattiesburg.

UNO eliminated Northwestern State from the Southland Tournament as the Privateers took advantage of four Demon errors to score five unearned runs. Northwestern ends its season with a 33-24 record.

Second-seeded Southeastern broke through in the final two innings and pulled out a 10-0 victory over the sixth-seed McNeese in the second round of the 2016 Southland Conference Tournament. With the loss, McNeese must now win out the rest of the way for a chance at the conference tournament championship beginning with UNO. Southeastern continues in the winner’s bracket after improving to 38-18 on the season.

UL-Lafayette did not play Thursday against Texas State, thanks to a nearly three-hour weather delay in the afternoon game between Arkansas State and Troy, followed by another lengthy delay in the following game between UT-Arlington and Georgia Southern.

The UTA-Georgia Southern game was suspended because of lightning. That game will resume at 9 a.m. The Cajuns and Bobcats will play 45 minutes after the UTA-Georgia Southern game or at 11:30 a.m., whichever is later.

For LSU fans who stayed up to watch, it was worth it. In a game that lasted over five hours and ended just before two-am, the LSU Tigers defeated Florida five to three in 14 innings in the SEC Tournament. Jordan Romero snapped out of an 0-for-18 funk at the plate and drilled a pinch-hit single into right field to push across the game-winning run. Jesse Stallings was the other hero in this game. He pitched five scoreless innings of relief to earn his third victory of the season. LSU faces Mississippi State tonight. The winner advances into the semifinals of the SEC Tournament.

The UL Lafayette softball team begins its super regional series against Oklahoma tonight. Game one of the best of three series is at 8 PM. The Sooners are 50-7 on the year and they’ve won 25 in a row. The Cajuns have hit 104 homers on the year.

Pelicans star Anthony Davis will miss out on 23-million dollars, because he failed to reach certain clauses in his contract. Davis would have been owed that cash if he was named the league’s MVP, voted a starter in the All-Star game or selected to the All-NBA team. The All NBA team was just announced and A-D is NOT on the squad after missing 21 games due to injury.

It took over five hours to complete and it ended shortly before 2 AM, but it was worth it for the LSU baseball team as the Tigers defeated Florida five to three in 14 innings to advance into the winner’s bracket of the SEC Tournament. Jordan Romero came off the bench and ended an 0-for-18 stretch at the plate, with an RBI single to drive in the go-ahead run. LSU’s Alex Lange started and tied a season high with 11 strikeouts, while Jesse Stallings threw five scoreless innings for his third win of the season. Tonight LSU will play Mississippi State at around 8 PM.

Also tonight, UL Lafayette will face Texas State in a winner’s bracket game of the Sun Belt Tournament. The Cajuns defeated Arkansas State seven to four last night. Kyle Clement’s three-run homer in the eighth inning snapped a a four-four tie.

Also, the UL Lafayette softball team begins its best of three super regional series with Oklahoma tonight at 8 PM.

Louisiana Tech was a 12-3 winner over Charlotte in its Conference USA elimination game. The Bulldogs busted the game open with a five-run second inning. Chase Lunceford and Cody Daigle each hit home runs in this contest. The Bulldogs have scored 10 or more runs in four of their last five games. Tech will play again tomorrow afternoon.

In the Southland, there’s a winner’s bracket game at 4 PM between McNeese and Southeastern Louisiana. The Lions took two of three from the Cowboys last month.

LSU has had many dramatic victories at the SEC Tournament in Hoover, but none took as long as Wednesday night-Thursday morning’s 5-3 win over Florida.
Jordan Romero snapped an 0-for-18 stretch with a single into right field to snap a 3-3 tie in the top of the 14th. Chris Blair on the call on the LSU Sports Radio Network…:

The victory puts LSU in the winner’s bracket and they’ll face Mississippi State in the late game on Thursday night. But the Tigers will need their rest after this 5-hour, 7-minute contest.

UL-Lafayette also picked up a nice win last night in the Sun Belt Conference Tournament as Senior Kyle Clement’s three run homer in the 8th lifted the Ragin Cajuns to a 7-4 victory over Arkansas State. They’ll face Texas State tonight.

Southeastern Louisiana rallied to stun in-state rival UNO in the first round of the Southland Conference Tournament. The Lions will take on McNeese State today. The Cowboys shut out Northwestern State 3-0 in the tournament’s opening game. The Demons will face UNO in an elimination game this morning.

Louisiana Tech’s ninth-inning comeback against rice in C-USA tourney action feel just short as the Bulldogs dropped the opener 13-12. The Bulldogs face Charlotte this morning at 9am.

Tulane gets back to work today in the ACC tourney as they take on Houston this afternoon. The Green Wave had a day off after beating UCF in the opening round of the tournament Tuesday.

The schedule is set for the NCAA softball Norman Super Regional between No. 3 seeded Oklahoma and No. 14 Louisiana-Lafayette. The Ragin Cajuns and Sooners will play a best of three series today and tomorrow.

Also in a best of three in Harrisonburg Virginia, the LSU softball team takes on James Madison starting tomorrow.
