This Saturday, the Tigers host 23rd ranked Ole Miss. Orgeron was the head coach of the Rebels from 2005-2007. In 2006, Orgeron nearly led Ole Miss to an upset win over LSU. The Tigers ended up pulling it out, beating the Rebels 23-20 in overtime. Orgeron talked about that game today…

The Saints spent today reviewing the game tape of Sunday’s 41-38 victory over Carolina. Quarterback Drew Brees threw for 465 yards and four touchdowns. His 15th career 400 yard passing game. It was a good game for cornerback BW Webb, who had three pass break-ups, but Brian Dixon was flagged for three pass interference penalties. New Orleans can climb back to the .500 mark at 3-3 with a win this Sunday at Kansas City.

ULM Quarterback Garrett Smith is done of the season after tearing his ACL in the win over Texas State. Redshirt freshman Will Collins will take his place. He threw two touchdowns in Saturday’s homecoming win.

Louisiana Tech running back Jaqwis Dancy will also miss the rest of the 2016 season as he’s been diagnosed with cancer. Coach Skip Holtz says the sophomore has been diagnosed with Stage 3 Hodgkin’s Lymphoma. Dancy complained about lymph node while rehabbing an ankle injury and tests came back positive earlier this month.

Quarterback Drew Brees threw for 465 yards and four touchdowns as the Saints defeated the Carolina Panthers 41-38. Brandin Cooks had 7 catches for 173 yards and one long touchdown. But the 52-yard field goal by rookie kicker Wil Lutz was the difference. Coach Sean Payton is very high on the 22-year-old.

The Saints are now 2-and-3 and they’ll visit Kansas City this Sunday. The Chiefs easily defeated the Raiders 26-10 yesterday.

Haughton native Dak Prescott continues to impress. Prescott threw for three touchdowns in the Cowboys 30-16 win over Green Bay.

The LSU Tigers got off to a slow start against Southern Miss, but eventually got it rolling in a 45-10 blowout win over the Golden Eagles. Running back Derrius Guice had 162 yards rushing and two touchdowns. Quarterback Danny Etling threw for 3 touchdowns and 276 yards. Etling talked about what Coach Orgeron said at halftime…

Etling threw two long touchdown passes, one to DJ Chark and the other to Malachi Dupre. And there’s a report that Leonard Fournette is expected to return to action for Saturday’s game against Ole Miss.

There are reports out of Monroe that Warhawks quarterback Garrett Smith will miss the rest of the season with a knee injury. Smith was hurt in the win over Texas State. His back-up, Will Collins, came off the bench and threw two touchdown passes.

The Saints finally have a winning streak. New Orleans raced out to a 21-0 lead over the defending NFC championship Carolina Panthers and had to hold for a 41-38 victory. The Saints led by two touchdowns at halftime and Carolina tied it with three touchdowns in the 4th quarter. But rookie Will Lutz kicked a 52-yard field goal with 11 seconds left for the win. New Orleans next travels to Kansas City.

Former Jets defensive lineman Dennis Byrd was killed Saturday in a car accident. Byrd had one of the most inspirational stories in NFL history, best known for how he responded when his promising career came to a halt in ’92 during a game in which he was temporarily paralyzed. Doctors thought he’d never walk again, but Byrd defied the odds. He was 50 years old.

LSU and Southern Miss were tied at ten at halftime on Saturday night in Death Valley, but the Tigers erupted for four 3rd quarter touchdowns and defeated the Golden Eagles 45-10. Running back Derrius Guice’s 61 yard touchdown early in the third quarter started a very good second half for the Tigers…:

Louisiana Tech put on an impressive offensive performance in Saturday’s 56-28 victory over Massachusetts. After leading his team to the victory, Bulldog Wide receiver Carlos Henderson has been names the Walker Camp Football Foundation’s National Player of the Week.

Southeastern Louisiana got a a 58-34 Southland Conference road victory over Stephen F. Austin. Nicholls State got by Houston Baptist 33-30. ULM beat Texas State 40-34. McNeese State was shutout by Central Arkansas 35-0.

Saturday night’s game against Southern Miss will be the last non-conference game of the year for the Tigers. That’s because LSU is no longer playing South Alabama on November 19th. Florida has replaced the Jaguars on the schedule and Tiger Rag Associate Editor James Moran says Athletic director Joe Alleva should get credit for getting the Florida game played in Tiger Stadium…

LSU will be without one of their starting safeties in Saturday night’s game against Southern Miss. Head Coach Ed Orgeron says senior Rickey Jefferson suffered a serious leg injury in practice this week….

Junior John Battle will take Jefferson’s spot in the starting line-up.

Three Saints players have been ruled out for Sunday’s game against Carolina, offensive tackle Terron Armstead, cornerback Delvin Breaux and linebacker Dannell Ellerbe. Defensive end Paul Kruger, tight end Josh Hill, guard Senio Kelemete and linebacker James Laurinaits are questionable.

Carolina Quarterback Cam Newton is also listed questionable in the injury report. But Panthers Head Coach Ron Rivera says he expects Newton to play “barring a setback” after he missed last Monday night’s loss to Tampa Bay, because of a concussion. Rivera also believes running back Jonathan Stewart will play after missing the last three games with a hamstring injury.

It’s homecoming on the ULM campus this weekend and the Warhawks will host Texas State on Saturday night at Malone Stadium. ULM goes into the game ranked last in the country in rush defense, allowing nearly 300 yards a game on the ground.

Louisiana Tech has had trouble stopping other teams’ passing attacks. The Bulldogs are at UMASS on Saturday. Massachusetts is averaging just over 300 yards of total offense a game.

Those five games are Ole Miss, Alabama, at Arkansas, Florida and at Texas A&M. Tomorrow night, the Tigers will host Southern Miss. LSU will have a new starter at safety as Rickey Jefferson broke a bone in his leg and he’ll miss significant time. John Battle will likely replace Jefferson in the defensive backfield.

Tonight, Tulane hosts Memphis. Tomorrow, Louisiana Tech is at UMASS. Southeastern travels to Stehen F Austin. ULM hosts Texas State for homecoming, McNeese hosts Central Arkansas, Northwestern is at Lamar, Southern is at Jackson State and Nicholls vists Houston Baptist.

Four admin officials at Belaire High in East Baton Rouge Parish have been placed on leave amid an allegation they changed players’ grades to make them eligible to play. The LHSAA says the matter is serious and the Bengals could have to forfeit their five wins this year. Head football coach Claude Coleman says this is a case of disgruntled people people making stuff up.

The LSU Tigers are getting closer to taking the field after not playing last Saturday because of Hurricane Matthew. The Bayou Bengals face Southern Miss on Saturday night in Death Valley in just the third ever meeting between the two teams. LSU is a 26-point favorite, but offensive guard Garrett Brumfield says there’s no overlooking the Golden Eagles.:

LSU interim coach Ed Orgeron said Wednesday that All-American running back Leonard Fournette will likely miss his second consecutive game.

The Ragin Cajuns football team did not put on a good show for a national television audience last night as they were shutout at home for the first time since 2002. Appalachian State scored the first four times they had the ball and blanked UL-Lafayette 24-0. Quarterback Anthony Jennings threw for just 121 yards and Elijah McGuire was held to 43.

The Saints welcome the defending NFC Champs to the Superdome this Sunday as they’ll battle the Carolina Panthers at noon. Carolina is having a disappointing 1-and-4 season, but Saints safety Kenny Vaccaro says you can’t let the Panthers record fool you…:

New Orleans comes into Sunday’s contest with a 1-and-3 record.

LSU fans gathered Wednesday to remember Mike VI at his habitat on campus. The tiger died this week following a months long battle with cancer. Fans are encouraged to keep sharing their stories and photos on social media using #MikeVI.

In the NBA, New Orleans Pelicans star Anthony Davis suffered a sprained ankle in Wednesday morning’s preseason game against the Rockets. ESPN reported that Davis is expected to miss 10-15 days. The Pels open the regular season on October 26th against the Denver Nuggets at the Smoothie King Center.

LSU Coach Ed Orgeron says it’s likely star running back Leonard Fournette will miss his second straight game due to an ankle injury. Fournette hasn’t played since the 18-13 loss to Auburn. Coach O said on the SEC coaches teleconference that it’s taken Fournette longer to recover than they thought.

Tonight at Cajun Field, it’s UL Lafayette versus Appalachian State in a nationally televised contest on ESPN Two. Anthony Jennings will start at quarterback against the Mountaineers. The former LSU Tiger was sent to the bench during the double overtime loss to New Mexico State, after throwing two interceptions. But Coach Mark Hudspeth says Jennings has had a great week of practice…

The turnover bug has bitten UL Lafayette lately, they’ve turned it over seven times in the last three games. Kick-off tonight is at 7 PM.

The NFL’s competition committee says Saints wide receiver Brandin Cooks will draw a flag if he continues his bow and arrow touchdown celebration. The league says the gesture mimics a violent act. Cooks says he plans to continue to do the celebration in some form and he’s suprised the NFL is cracking down on what he said started as sign of his faith in God.

The Saints host the Panthers this Sunday. Carolina quarterback Cam Newton was back at practice today after missing Monday night’s game because of a concussion. Panthers Coach Ron Rivera has not said if Newton will play against the Saints.

Will Pelicans star Anthony Davis be healthy for the regular season opener, which is two weeks from tonight. Davis turned his ankle in a preseason game against the Rockets today in China and he’ll reportedly miss the next 10 to 15 days.

In college basketball…Natchitoches Central star Brandon Rachal committed to the LSU Tigers today. Six-foot-six wingman has led the Chiefs to Class 5A state title appearance twice in the last three seasons. The four star prospect averaged 15 points and six rebounds a game last year.

LSU Head Coach Ed Orgeron said on the SEC coaches teleconference that running back Leonard Fournette will likely miss his second straight game this Saturday with an ankle injury. It’s also possible that Andy Dodd will start at center, because of injuries to Will Clapp and Toby Weathersby.

Louisiana Tech quarterback Ryan Higgins has been added to the 2016 Manning Award Watch List, which goes to the top quarterback in the country. Higgins is averaging 374 yards through the air a game, completing 65-percent of his passes with 15 touchdowns and zero interceptions.

The NFL Network reports that Saints safety Erik Harris tore his A-C-L during practice this week and he’ll miss the rest of the season. Harris played mostly on special teams. New Orleans hosts Carolina this Sunday. Coach Sean Payton says they are preparing for Panthers Quarterback Cam Newton to play, even though he missed Monday’s loss to Tampa Bay because of a concussion.

UL Lafayette is about a ten-point underdog at home against Appalachian State tonight. Cajuns Coach Mark Hudspeth says winning the battle at the line of scrimmage will be important…

Florida’s head coach Jim McElwain says he is shocked that anyone would think the Gators tried to dodge playing LSU last weekend. He said Hurricane Matthew’s death toll and other effects of the storm should speak for itself. The SEC said it would postpone the game, but no makeup date has been announced.

An East Baton Rouge Parish school principal and football coach are on administrative leave over an investigation into an alleged grade change for a football player. The LHSAA is investigating the Belaire High Bengals and Coach Claude Coleman for allegedly using a player who wasn’t eligible. They could have to forfeit their five wins this year.
