Over a dozen candidates filed paperwork to run for Louisiana’s open US Senate seat on the first day of qualifying. One of the first to qualify was Attorney and Businesswoman Caroline Fayard, a Democrat from New Orleans. She says if elected, she’ll do what is right for the people of Louisiana…:

The US Department of Veterans Affairs said today their health records show the man responsible for the shooting deaths of three law enforcement officers in Baton Rouge had a number contacts with the V-A from 2008 to 2013. It’s been reported Gavin Long told people close to him that he suffered from post-traumatic stress disoder. The V-A says Long’s US Marine Corps’ service included overseas deployment.

The State Department of Revenue has announced that the Louisiana solar energy tax credit program has already reached its limit. The LDR says consumers buying residential solar energy systems from this point on should not expect to receive any tax credits from the state. President of Solar Alternatives Jeff Cantin says this news also hurts businesses who install solar products…

Cantin reminds consumers federal tax credits are still available for those who choose to use solar energy to power their homes and businesses.

The governor’s office will host a blood drive tomorrow in honor of the three law enforcement officers who were killed and the three that were injured in Sunday’s shooting. Deputy Chief of Staff, Johnny Anderson, hopes the public will come out to the donation bus outside the State Capitol from 8:30 AM until 2:30 PM…..

Public Service Commissioner Foster Campbell says Louisiana should be the richest state in the South, but we are not because, politicians have done a poor job representing the public…

Governor John Bel Edwards recently endorsed Campbell in the race. Candidates can sign up at the Secretary of State’s office between today and Friday.

The top half of the state is under a heat advisory until 7pm tomorrow. The National Weather Service says a ridge of high pressure is hovering over the region which is forecast to reach temperatures into the upper 90s to near 100 degrees.

If you’re planning to install solar panels on your home, residents from this point will not be getting tax credits from the state. The Louisiana Department of Revenue says the solar energy tax incentive program is tapped out. But President of Solar Alternatives Jeff Cantin says there are still federal tax dollars available…:

He says this means around 2-thousand families will not get the state credit now.

An Edgard man is facing 15 years in prison for allegedly posting on social media that cops were going to be killed in St. Charles Parish. The post essentially read, “In a little while cops in St. Charles are going to be next. I hope they kill every last one of them.” Sheriff Greg Champagne says this type of hateful rhetoric, especially during such tense times, that will not be tolerated…:

Victor Pablo is charged with terrorizing and threatening a public official.

So far, 13 candidates in the US Senate race have officially signed up to run on this first day of qualifying. They include Republicans Congressmen Charles Boustany and John Fleming and Joseph Cao. Democrats Caroline Fayard and Public Service Commissioner Foster Campbell threw their hats in the ring, as well as former ATC Commissioner Troy Hebert.

A police officer in Kentwood shot someone during an incident last night in Tangipahoa Parish. State Police confirmed the shooting and said the woman did not suffer life-threatening injuries. No other information on this incident is being released at this time.

Qualifying began this morning and several candidates appeared at the Secretary of State’s Office to sign up for the US Senate race. They include Democrats Caroline Fayard & Public Service Commissioner Foster Campbell, and Republicans Congressmen Charles Boustany and John Fleming and Troy Hebert who is running as an independent.

The St. Charles Parish Sheriff’s Office has arrested a man accused of making threats against police officers on social media. Sheriff Greg Champagne says they received reports on Monday, following the deadly rampage against officers the prior day in Baton Rouge, that a man by the name of Victor “Life of Crime” Pablo indicated he planned a similar ambush

Champagne says the suspect is being charged with terrorizing and threatening a public official, which carries up to a maximum of 15 years in prison.

State Police is investigating a police shooting in Tangiaphoa Parish. Trooper Dustin Dwight says the incident happened last night on LA 38 and a woman was shot by a Kentwood Police officer. The woman’s injuries are not considered life-threatening and no other information is being released at this time.

Qualifying for the federal elections begins today. In the US Senate race, the latest polls show Republican State Treasurer John Kennedy leading a large field of candidates, but pollster John Couvillion says a lot can change before the November primary…

The community and faith-based organization, Together Baton Rouge, lays out a plan on how to move the Capital City forward in the wake of the ambush on Baton Rouge police and the fatal shooting Alton Sterling. Rev. Lee Wesley says one of the first things that needs to be done is getting help to people who struggle with mental health problems.

There’s an effort underway to rebuild the Civil War era governor’s mansion that burned down in Opelousas a week ago today. Mayor Reginald Tatum says a GoFundMe account has been established and the owners of the building are seeking emergency funds through National Trust for historic preservation…

The group Together Baton Rouge took up a request by the US Justice Department and the governor’s office to lead a program on community policing called Project Spirit. The project aims to find out how people view the city’s problems, and to offer ideas about how Baton Rouge can move forward in the wake of the ambush on police officers, and the shooting death of Alton Sterling. Rev. Lee Wesley believes there needs to be reform within police departments…:

Wesley says the group will hold “We the People” meetings over the next 6 months to allow people to voice their concerns on both sides.

The Baton Rouge Area Foundation’s EBR First Responders Fund established for the families of the officers who were shot and killed in the attack Sunday, has raised over $52,000. Those wishing to help can donate online at braf.org.

There are plans to rebuild the Civil War-era Governor’s Mansion that was intentionally burned down a week ago today in Opelousas. Mayor Reginald Tatum is upset the original structure was destroyed, as it was 3 weeks out from opening as a museum. But he’s optimistic the building will be finished before the city’s 300th anniversary in 2020…:

As many as eight well-known candidates for US Senate are expected to file paperwork — five Republicans, two Democrats and one Independent. JMC Analytics pollster John Couvillion says Lafayette Congressman Charles Boustany poses a threat to GOP front-runner, State Treasurer John Kennedy:

He says Democratic Public Service Commissioner Foster Campbell is favored to make the runoff.

In the Congressional races, Pollster Bernie Pinsonat says the competition for the 1st District seat should be an interesting one. Mayor Kip Holden is running against fellow Democrat and incumbent Cedric Richmond. Pinsonat says there has been word of former KKK member and former state Senator David Duke eyeing the 2nd congressional seat occupied by Steve Scalise:

Last night, hundreds of bikers gathered on the highway where two Baton Rouge city cops and one sheriff’s deputy were killed on Sunday. They took a short ride to the Baton Rouge Police headquarters — not far from the site of the tragic incident. The bikers said the distance was short, but the message they were spreading could go a long way. Nearly every bike was decorated with a blue strip or black and blue flag.
