The Lafayette man who could have received up to forty years in prison for manslaughter in the shooting death of 15 year-old Austin Rivault in 2012, has received a sentence of 13 months in prison. Twenty-one year-old Seth Fontenot ended up shooting a total of three teens-including Rivault, whom he thought were breaking into his truck.

State Police have released the sketch of a person wanted in the injuring of a Trooper during a traffic stop in Rapides Parish on June 30th. Authorities say the Trooper and driver engaged in an altercation, and the officer was struck in the head by a passenger in the vehicle.

The 5th circuit said a federal judge went too far when he ordered the prison to maintain heat indexes on death row at or below 88 degrees.

The Avoyelles Parish Sheriff’s Office arrests the former Evergreen Police Chief for the murder of his wife four months ago. Sheriff Doug Anderson says they got a 911 call on March 21st of this year from Charles Mayeaux Jr. advising that his house was on fire…:

Officials with the FBI are looking for known victims in Louisiana of a nationwide “sextortion” case in which a man is accused of tricking underage girls into performing sex acts on camera. Authorities says 31-year-old Lucas Michael Chansler of Florida had hundreds of victims across the country including several in Louisiana. FBI New Orleans Special Agent Mike Anderson says the work is just beginning on identifying his victims.

Chansler admitted he used social networking sites to pretend he was a teenage boy and talked to girls who ranged from ages 13 to 18. He had over 80,000 photos and videos in his possession. Anderson says Chansler has been sentenced to 105 years in federal prison and is a convicted online predator.

The mother of a Baton Rouge teenager was arrested today after officers found her son severely malnourished. 49-year-old Rose Holland is charged with 2nd degree cruelty to a juvenile and also faces drug charges. Cpl. Don Coppola says Baton Rouge police officers discovered the child when responding to a noise complaint.

Coppola says  the child was immediately transported to the hospital with large bed sores and small bug bites all over his body. He says it is unknown if he had any other medical conditions.

Holland and her friend, Cathy Fort, were found sitting in a car outside the house and were then booked into East Baton Rouge Parish Prison. Coppola says Fort also faces charges of possession of crack cocaine and drug paraphernalia.

Officials with the FBI are looking for known Louisiana victims in a nationwide “sextortion” case. 31-year-old Lucas Michael Chansler, formerly of St. Johns Florida, was sentenced to 105 years in federal prison after pleading guilty to nine counts of child pornography. FBI New Orleans Special Agent Mike Anderson believes there are hundreds of victims of this man’s scheme to get juveniles on webcam performing sex acts including several in Louisiana…:

The Ouachita Parish Sheriff’s office has arrested a man for second degree murder in the death of a badly beaten 5-year-old they were originally told had drowned by the mother. 59-year-old Russell Flowers of Monroe is also charged with domestic violence abuse and aggravated assault.

He says based on a police composite sketch, the driver is a medium skin-toned black male and in his late teens or early 20′s and was approximately 5’10′ tall.

A proposal has been made in Lafayette to create a bike loop around the city and call it the Mickey Shunick Memorial Bike Loop. Shunick, a UL-Lafayette co-ed, was abducted and killed in 2012 while riding her bike. A stretch of the proposed bike loop would include a stretch where Shunick was riding when her bicycle was struck by her admitted killer Brandon Lavergne.

The Ouachita Parish Sheriff’s office says they are still investigating the case of a child who drowned on July 3rd which has now lead to the arrest of a Monroe man. They say 59-year-old Russell Flowers is booked with second degree murder and domestic violence abuse and aggravated assault. On July 3rd a 5-year old girl drowned in the Ouachita River. There are no other details available at this time.

There is ongoing sparring between former LSU quarterback Zach Mettenberger and Houston Texans defensive end JJ watt. Mettenberger posted a selfie when he started for the Titans in their Texans game last season and Watt responded saying this is the NFL not high school. Mettenberger responded in a recent interview saying Watt was the one acting high schoolish when seen wearing a letterman jacket. Watt tweeted this morning that “a lion doesn’t concern himself with the opinions of a sheep.”

A teacher that formerly worked with Keavin Keith, who wishes to stay anonymous, told our reporters she heard rumors around Plaquemine that one of the victim’s mother was aware of the situation long before it was ever reported to police…:

Louisiana hunters are now allowed to carry any firearm of their choice during bow hunting season. Port Allen Senator Rick Ward sponsored the new law saying the gun would be for killing things like threatening hogs and not game by law. There are many legislative seats up for grabs in the fall statewide elections. There are 9 seats on the Senate side and at least 19 on the House side. Political analyst and pollster John Couvillon says there is a varying degree of ways candidates may choose to campaign and how much money they may need to run…:

He says the jockeying for these open seats is well underway, even though qualifying for these races happens in two months.

After the original hosts of the Baton Rouge hosted 2015 Miss USA pageant pulled out of the show following controversial comments made by Donald Trump, three new presenters have been announced. Todd Newton announced on his twitter that he would be co-hosting the pageant with Alex Wehrley. Julie Alexandria will be handling the backstage coverage. The event is airing on the Reelz channel Sunday night.

The defense attorney said his client never denied shooting the teens, but claims he was aiming at the truck, not the people in the vehicle. Meche says the punishment is all up to Judge Edward Rubin..:

Rivault lived down the street from Fontenot and was a freshman at St. Thomas More Catholic School when he was killed. There was a pre-sentence investigation where lawyers give the judge letters and interviews from people those representing victims and also those who know the convicted individual…:

LSU running back Leonard Fournette is racking up the honors as he’s named to the Maxwell Award watch list. UL-Lafayette running back Elijah McGuire is also getting plenty of nods as he’s also been named to the Maxwell watch list as has Louisiana Tech running back Kenneth Dixon.

Two Tigers were named to the Bednarik Award watch list for defensive player of the year…they are linebacker Kendell Beckwith and safety Jalen Mills.

Former LSU Tiger Kevin Gausman turned in the shortest big league start of his career giving up 8 runs as the Baltimore Orioles lost 8-3 to the Wins on Tuesday night. He struck out four and walked one.

The Lafayette High School Officials Association has voted to join other official associations from around the state in a strike. High school refs are planning not to work games in the fall, unless they receive a pay raise. They say they’ve only received two increases in pay in the last 25 years. LHSAA executive director Eddie Bonine says they plan to discuss the issue at this weekend’s executive committee session.

Former LSU Quarterback Zach Mettenberger continues to spar with Houston Texans defensive end JJ watt over the selfie matter. Mettenberger snapped a picutre of himself in his first career start for the Tennessee Titans in their game, which they lost, to the Texans last season. Watt said the NFL is not high school and the incident showed Mett was not ready to start. Mettenberger fired back in an interview saying that since Watt seems to mock him everytime he posts a selfie on Instagram he’s the one who is acting like a high schooler.
