Ole Miss turned three balls hit in the infield to begin the eighth inning into three runs to beat the LSU Tigers six to three last night. An error by freshman second baseman Ethan Clauss was the big play. Clauss failed to step on second base for a force out as the Tigers were trying to turn a double play. That mistake allowed West Monroe’s Hayden Federico to drive in the go-ahead run. At the plate, LSU was two-for-11 with runners in scoring position.

Elsewhere… 10th-ranked Southern Miss defeated the Ragin Cajuns eight to one. Appalachian State beat ULM 13-5.

La Tech trounced Middle Tennessee eight to one. Colby Lunsford drove in three runs, and Declan Dahl allowed one unearned run over seven innings and struck out eight for his fifth win.

Southern held on to beat Grambling seven to five. Game two is at 3 PM today.

It was a tough night for most of the Louisiana schools in the Southland, other than Nicholls. The Colonels blanked Lamar three to nothing. Dawson Richard threw six shutout innings for the win. Peyton Lacy earned the save.

It was Corpus Christi over Southeastern Louisiana seven to five, Houston Christian defeated Northwestern State five to two, UIW over McNeese six to two.

McNeese has named Bridget Martin as its new athletics director. Martin has worked at the Lake Charles school since 1990, and she’s been an administrator at McNeese since 2001.

Johnny Jones is officially back at LSU. The DeRidder native will be an assistant coach for the men’s basketball team for a second time. He’s also been a head coach for the Tigers. As a player, he helped LSU reach the Final Four in 1981.

Shreveport golfer Sam Burns is tied for second at six-under par at the Masters, but he’s six shots back of the leader Rory McIlroy.

LSU baseball is getting more revenue share dollars next season. In an interview with Tiger Rag Magazine in February, Head Coach Jay Johnson expressed concern that not enough financial resources were being put into the program. Athletic Director Verge Ausberry tells ESPN Radio Baton Rouge they want to make sure Johnson has what he needs to win.

Ausberry says LSU baseball and women’s basketball will receive the same when it comes to revenue sharing dollars and there will be more NIL dollars available for the LSU baseball program.

 

The Ragin Cajuns baseball team has been struggling in recent weeks, but they could turn their season around with a good performance this weekend as they host 10th ranked Southern Miss. U-L Lafayette is 4-and-8 in Sun Belt play. The Golden Eagles are 7-and-5.

ULM is also 7-and-5 in the Sun Belt and the Warhawks are at Appalachian State, who is 5-and-7.

Louisiana Tech hosts Middle Tennessee for a three-game set this weekend. The Blue Raiders are 5-and-7 in Conference USA, while the Bulldogs are 6-and-6.

Northwestern State is in first place in the Southland the Demons will host Houston Christian this weekend. Southeastern Louisiana, who has won eight of its last night, will host Texas a-and-M Corpus Christi this weekend.

Also this weekend..Nicholls hosts Lamar and McNeese hosts UIW.

The Cowboys name Lake Arthur native Bridget Martin as the new athletics director at McNeese. She’s worked at the school since 1990 and replaces Heath Schroyer.

The LSU baseball team begins a three-game series tonight against Ole Miss. The Tigers are 6-and-6 in the SEC, while the Rebels are 5-and-7. The Rebels strength is their starting pitching. Hunter Elliott is tonight’s starter. He was on the 2022 national championship team. Sophomore Cade Townsend has an ERA of 1.82 and on Sunday, sophomore Taylor Rabe will start. He’s 3-1 with a 3.20 ERA.

LSU athletics director Verge Ausberry has announced that the LSU baseball program will receive more revenue share dollars next season. Ausberry made the announcement during an interview with Matt Moscona on ESPN Baton Rouge radio…

This season LSU baseball was sharing a five-percent allotment of revenue share dollars with softball, gymnastics and the Olympic sports. But Ausberry says for the 2026-27 athletic season, baseball will receive 5-percent of the revenue sharing dollars, to match what women’s basketball receives.

 

We are at the halfway point of LSU spring football and Coach Lane Kiffin said this week the defense is ahead of the offense. One of the key new additions to the defense is linebacker TJ Dottery, who lead the SEC in tackles last season at Ole Miss. Dottery believes LSU could have a special defense this season…

LSU is a special place to Johnny Jones. The 65-year-old DeRidder native led the men’s basketball team to the Final Four as a player, he was an assistant coach and he spent five seasons as a head coach at LSU. After an eight-year run as the head coach at Texas Southern, Jones is returning to LSU as an assistant coach for Will Wade.

On the women’s side, LSU’s starting point guard, Jada Richard, is reportedly entering the transfer portal. No reason given on why, but LSU is hosting a Laila Reynolds today. She was Florida’s point guard last season and averaged 12 points a game.

Former LSU standout and Shreveport native Sam Burns is tied for the lead after the first round of the Masters. Burns shot a five-under par, 67 and he’s tied with defending Masters champion Rory McIlroy. University High grad Patrick Reed is one of several golfers, two shots back at three-under par.

LSU fifth-year senior linebacker T.J. Dottery is one of four players who decided to follow Lane Kiffin to Baton Rouge after Ole Miss’s playoff run. Dottery, who led the SEC in tackles last season with 98, says he’s already enjoying playing for his new defensive coordinator, Blake Baker.

LSU women’s basketball starting point guard Jada Richard (Ree-shard) is reportedly entering the transfer portal. The former Lafayette Christian star averaged nearly 10 points, three assists, and a steal this past season. The Opelousas native’s decision to enter the portal is considered a major surprise.

A disappointing Pelicans season comes to an end this weekend. New Orleans is at Boston tonight, and the final game of the season is Sunday in Minnesota.

In college baseball action last night…Southeastern Louisiana won in walk-off fashion as junior designated hitter Rhett Centanni blasted a solo shot in the bottom of the ninth to give the Lions a seven to six victory. Southeastern has won eight of its last nine. The Cajuns have lost three in a row.

And Northwestern State beat Southern nine to three  as Caden Fiveash got the win in his first career start.

 

Agents who negotiate NIL deals for college and high school athletes would have to be registered with the state under legislation approved by the Senate Commerce Committee. Assistant Attorney General Oliva Nuss says this legislation modernizes student-agent laws to address the rapid growth of NIL endorsement deals.

The bill ensures that “agents” who represent student athletes are registered with the state, undergo a background check and provide full disclosure of fees and compensation.

The Louisiana Tech women’s basketball team has lost its top two scorers from last season’s team to the transfer portal, Jianna Morris and Paris Bradley.

Ruston High’s Ahmad Hudson has been named the Class 5A Boys Basketball Player of the year. The six-foot-eight junior averaged nearly 20 points and 13 rebounds a game for the Bearcats this past season.

Chris Stanfield and Seth Dardar left with injuries on Tuesday night. Johnson said they didn’t break any bones, but could not say whether they’ll be able to play against the Rebels.

Southeastern Louisiana’s Rhett Centanni hit a walk-off home run in the bottom of the night as the Lions topped the Cajuns six to five. U-L Lafayette has lost three in a row.

The Louisiana Legislature is working on legislation that would require individuals seeking to negotiate NIL deals for college and high school athletes to register with the state. The measure also creates civil remedies for athletes harmed by unethical individuals who negotiate an NIL deal. Legendary high school football coach JT Curtis of John Curtis says he’s seen athletes who were taken advantage of by people they thought were looking out for their best interests.

The Senate Commerce Committee approved the measure, and it now heads to the Senate floor for further discussion.

The mediation process has started between Conference USA and the University of Louisiana System, which is representing Louisiana Tech. The two sides are trying to agree on a dollar amount that Tech will have to pay to Conference USA in order to join the Sun Belt on July 1st.

Bethune Cookman defeated the LSU Tigers 10 to 7 on the baseball diamond last night. LSU had a meltdown in the seventh giving up five runs. Two runners reached via a walk, two other hitters were hit by pitches and there was also an error by second baseman Seth Dardar. It was a tough loss for LSU, who was coming off a thrilling series victory over Tennessee. LSU is at Ole Miss this weekend for an SEC series that will begin on Friday.

In other action last night…Micah Dean hit a three-run blast as ULM defeated Mississippi Valley State nine to four. McNeese defeated Grambling four to one. Louisiana Tech won in Natchitoches for the first time since 2022 as the Bulldogs blanked Demons seven to nothing.

Sam Leavitt will likely miss the rest of spring after having pins removed from his surgically repaired foot. Kiffin says it was expected.

LSU women’s basketball coach Kim Mulkey said she did not anticipate losing any of her key contributors from this past season to the transfer portal. But freshman guard Bella Hines has entered the portal after averaging four points a game last season.

Three year starter for the Lady Techsters Jianna Morris has also entered the portal.

The Pelicans played their final home game last night and Jeremiah Fears set a franchise record for a rookie by scoring 40 points in a 156 to 137 win over Utah. New Orleans scored a team record 95 points in the second half.

An ugly seventh inning for the Tigers baseball team and they lost to Bethune Cookman 10 to 7 last night. The Wildcats scored five runs in the seventh as LSU pitchers hit two batters, walked two other hitters and second baseman Seth Dardar misplayed a sharp grounder that allowed two runs to score. And in the bottom of the seventh, LSU had the bases loaded, but Steven Milam, Jake Brown and John Pearson struck out.

Louisiana Tech ended Northwestern State’s four-game winning streak as the Bulldogs blanked the Demons seven to nothing. Colby Lunsford had three hits and drove in a run.

ULM erupted for five runs in the eighth inning as the Warhawks defeated Mississippi Valley State nine to four. Micah Dean’s three-run homer was the big blow.

McNeese pitchers struck out 15  as the Cowboys knocked off Grambling four to one.

In the final home game of the season, the Pelicans scored 95 points in the second half! And went on to beat Utah 156 to 137. Jeremiah Fears had 40 points, a franchise record for a rookie.

LSU quarterback Sam Leavitt is back on crutches after having the pins removed from his surgically repaired foot. Coach Lane Kiffin says the removal of the pins was expected and he’s pleased with what Leavitt has done so far.

College Basketball Insider for CBS Sports, Jon Rothstein, is reporting that former LSU head and assistant coach and player and Louisiana native, Johnny Jones, will join Will Wade’s staff. That was a story Tiger Rag broke on March 30th.

 

The 24th ranked LSU Tigers will host Bethune Cookman tonight at Alex Box Stadium. Coach Jay Johnson said freshman Omar Serna will not play tonight after leaving Sunday’s game following a collision with a base runner, but he expects Serna to be ready for the Ole Miss series.

Ragin Cajuns head coach Matt Deggs has been suspended for two games for his outburst towards the James Madison dugout on Saturday.  Deggs reacted to what he felt like was disrespect…

Oak Grove basketball star Caroline Bradley has committed to Kim Mulkey and the LSU Lady Tigers. Bradley is a five-star prospect, who is ranked as the nation’s number one center. Bradley is six-foot-five and averaged 27 points, 17 rebounds and three blocked shots per game for Oak Grove in her senior season.

LSU baseball hosts Bethune Cookman tonight at 6:30. Cade Arrambide named co-SEC hitter of the week for his four home run performance on Sunday.

Spring football resumes today for the LSU football team…Safety Ty Benefield says the intensity of his new defensive coordinator, Blake Baker, has stood out.

Ragin Cajuns Coach Matt Deggs has been suspended for two games after an emotional outburst towards the James Madison dugout during Saturday’s loss that had Deggs screaming at players and coaches in the Dukes’ dugout. Deggs’ admits he could have handled the situation better, saying he lost his cool and wasn’t very professional.

In the Warhawks series loss to Georgia State, ULM coach Ford Pemberton was ejected during Game 1 of Friday night’s doubleheader after arguing with an umpire. Pemberton says he was defending one of his players following an exchange he had with an umpire…
