That’s attorney Scott Sternberg who represents the plaintiffs. Sternberg says these are public dollars and who gets what, should be public information. LSU claims those records are exempt from public disclosure due to federal student privacy law.  L-R-N and Tiger Rag have the same owner.

The McNeese women’s basketball team’s 21-game winning streak came to an end yesterday as the Cowgirls lost to Stephen F Austin71-59  in the Southland Tournament Championship game. So no NCAA Tournament for the McNeese women.

La Tech and Southern men’s basketball teams advanced in their tournaments. And will play in the semis today.

Several of the new Saints players met with the media on Thursday, including new starting left guard David Edwards, who signed a four-year, 61-million dollar deal with the Black and Gold. Edwards was on Buffalo last season and he says he watched some film on New Orleans while scouting another team late last season, and what he saw caught his eye.

The 13th ranked LSU Tigers begin SEC play tonight against Vanderbilt. Both teams have struggled in the non-conference.

At the Boys basketball tournament, there are five state championship games today….Lincoln Prep versus Southern Lab, Gibsland Coleman against Pleasant Hill, Ferriday versus East Iberville. Zwolle against Lacassine and Wossman takes on Brusly.

For the third year in a row, the McNeese Cowboys are in the NCAA men’s basketball tournament. McNeese beat Stephen F. Austin yesterday, 76-59, to win their third straight Southland Conference Tournament title. Senior guard DJ Richards says earning their way back into the NCAA Tournament is an accomplishment no one can take away from them.

McNeese will find out Sunday who they will play next week and where.

Louisiana Tech and Southern are still capable of earning an automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament. The Jaguars are a three-seed and they will play sixth seeded Arkansas Pine Bluff tonight. The Bulldogs are a four-seed in the Conference USA tournament and will play Middle Tennessee at 5:30.

The Ruston Boys Basketball will play Central tonight in a Division one non-select semi-final game. Championship games begin tomorrow at noon with Lincoln Prep playing Southern Lab.

 

The 13th ranked LSU baseball team begins SEC play tomorrow night as the Tigers host Vanderbilt. Sulphur’s Jake Brown is leading the Tigers offensively as the junior right fielder is hitting .413 with nine home runs and 28 RBIs. He credits his offseason work to helping him get off to a fast start this season…

First pitch in Nashville is at 6 PM.

The Pelicans have been playing better since Dejounte Murray returned from an Achilles injury. New Orleans is 7-and-3 in its last 10 games and they won last night over Toronto 122 to 111. Murray had 27 points and six assists.

Former LSU star Aaron Nola pitched five shutout innings as team Italy eliminated Mexico from the World Baseball Classic. Italy’s win also means the U-S advances to the quarterfinals to play Canada on Friday night.

The McNeese Cowboys are dancing again. The Pokes won their third Southland Conference Tournament Championship yesterday, easily defeating regular season champion Stephen F Austin 76 to 59. Senior Javohn Garcia had a career high 31 points, 25 came in the first half.

The McNeese Cowgirls will play Stephen F Austin for the women’s Southland Conference Championship at 4 PM today.

The LSU men’s basketball season ended yesterday with an 87 to 82 loss to Kentucky. Coach Matt McMahon’s team won only three conference games and might not be back again next season…

The 13th ranked LSU baseball team’s bats showed some life in Tuesday night’s eight to four win over Creighton. Omar Serna hit a grand slam and Jake Brown belted a two run homer.  Brown says the team held a players-only meeting before the game to address the recent offensive struggles.

Serna’s blast sailed 455 feet for his first collegiate home run.

The Ragin Cajuns stole a season high eight bases and defeated UTRGV 11 to seven. U-L Lafayette begins Sun Belt play on Friday against South Alabama.

Just one hit last night for Louisiana Tech as they were blanked by Lamar six to nothing.

McNeese men’s basketball plays for an NCAA Tournament bid this afternoon as they face Stephen F Austin at 4 PM in the Southland Tournament championship game.

 

The LSU men’s basketball team is playing Kentucky in the SEC Tournament and if the Tigers lose it could be the last game for Matt McMahon as head coach. Tiger Rag editor Glenn Guilbeau believes McMahon is likely to return next year due to donor fatigue.

A new NFL league year begins this afternoon, which means the Saints’ new additions through free agency will become official at three o’ clock. New Orleans has reportedly signed running back Travis Etienne, offensive guard David Edwards and tight end Noah Fant. Saints sideline report for WWL Radio, Jeff Nowak, says Fant is a versatile player who can used in a multiple of ways…

The 13th ranked LSU baseball Tigers fell behind four to one to Creighton, but the Tigers rallied to win eight to four last night. Omar Serna erased a two-run deficit in the fifth inning with a grand slam. His first collegiate home run. Jake Brown added a two-run blast in the eighth inning and LSU got great outings of the bullpen from Deven Sheerin and Santiago Garcia to improve to 13 and 5.

In other action…the Ragin Cajuns jumped out to an 8-0 lead and defeated UTRGV 11 to 7. Lamar blanked Louisiana Tech six to nothing as the Bulldogs had just one hit. Nicholls won its sixth in a row beating Jackson State 12 to 2, Northwestern State thumped Alcorn State 13 to 2.

And March Madness erupted last night in Lake Charles as the McNeese Cowboys needed three overtimes to get past UT Rio Grande Valley 84 to 80. Larry Johnson had 27 points and 12 rebounds. The Cowboys will play for a Southland Tournament title today at 4 PM versus Stephen F Austin.

The free agents the Saints signed on Monday will become official today at three p.m. when the new NFL league year begins. New Orleans’ most notable addition is former Jaguars running back and Jennings native Travis Etienne. WWL Saints sideline reporter Jeff Nowak says Etienne is a great pickup.

The Saints were active on the first day of the NFL free agency period. The two biggest additions were running back Travis Etienne and veteran offensive guard David Edwards. Matt Paras of The Advocate says both players help address the issues with the run game..

The Saints also signed Noah Fant, who caught 34 passes with the Bengals last season.

In basketball news…UNO and Nicholls were eliminated from the Southland Tournament yesterday. McNeese is the two seed and they will play UTRGV tonight at 8:30 in Lake Charles.

Grambling beat Mississippi Valley state 77 to 52 to advance in the SWAC Tournament. The Tigers will play Jackson State tonight.

ULM has fired men’s basketball coach Phil Cunningham after one season, while Brooke Stoehr has been named Conference USA women’s basketball coach of the year.

 

The 13th ranked LSU baseball team is back in action tonight, trying to break out of an offensive slump. The Tigers team batting average of .291 is third worst in the SEC. Coach Jay Johnson says LSU’s hitters need to get back to the plate discline that helped them start the season winning their first eight games…

The UL-Lafayette baseball team is coming off a series win against Dallas Baptist. The Cajuns will play five games at home this week, starting with Texas Rio Grande Valley tonight. Head Coach Matt Deggs says his team has to do these things to remain successful.

Former LSU star Paul Skenes threw four shutout innings and struck out seven as the US defeated Mexico five to three in the World Baseball Classic.

ULM has fired head men’s basketball coach Phil Cunningham after one season.

And Nicholls and UNO were eliminated in the Southland tournament.

The 13th ranked LSU baseball team looks to get out of its offensive slump tonight as the Tigers host Creighton in their last game before SEC play. LSU had a total of nine hits in losses to  Sacramento State on Saturday and Sunday. Coach Jay Johnson wants his hitters to string together quality at-bats.

LSU hit six home runs on Friday night in a run-rule win over Sacramento State, but had just nine hits total on Saturday and Sunday, and dropped the nonconference weekend series with the Hornets, dropping to 13th in the Baseball America poll.

 

The Cajuns took two of three from Dallas Baptist, ULM lost its series with UT  Arlington, Louisiana Tech won its series over South Alabama, and Nicholls has won five in a row.

LSU women’s basketball’s losing streak versus South Carolina is up to 19 in a row after losing to the Gamecocks in the semifinals of the SEC Tournament 83 to 77. Coach Kim Mulkey…

LSU will likely be a two-seed in the NCAA Tournament.

 

The Lady Techsters finished the regular season by winning 17 in a row. La Tech begins play in the Conference USA Tournament on Wednesday.

The regular season ended for the LSU men’s basketball team with a triple overtime loss to Texas A-and-M on Saturday. The Tigers went 3-15 in league play. Coach Matt McMahon says he accepts his share of the blame for another losing season in conference play, but he still feels good about the future if given another chance…

LSU will play Kentucky in the opening round of the SEC Tournament on Wednesday.

The Southland Tournament got underway yesterday with UNO beating HCU 73 to 60, Nicholls knocking off Northwestern State. The Privateers play Corpus Christi tonight and the Colonels face third-seeded UTRGV.

After hitting six home runs in a 15-4 win on Friday night against Sacramento State, LSU scored just five runs on Saturday and Sunday as the Tigers dropped the series to the Hornets. LSU’s offensive troubles continued as they did not have one extra base hit in a six-to-one loss last night.

The Ragin Cajuns had a tough day yesterday, losing 12 to 1, but won on Friday and Saturday to take the series versus Dallas Baptist. Donovan LaSalle homered Friday and Saturday.

ULM avoided a sweep by beating UT Arlington 12-2 on Sunday. Garrett Weithorn homered twice. Louisiana Tech took two of three from South Alabama. Brooks Roberson pitched five innings and allowed one run.

Nicholls baseball has won five in a row after sweeping a doubleheader from Texas A-and-M Corpus Christi on Saturday.

The Nicholls men’s basketball team advanced in the Southland Tournament, beating Northwestern State 61-47 and will play UTRGV tonight.

The Lady Techsters wrapped up the regular season on a 17-game winning streak by beating UTEP 91 to 87.

At the girls’ high school basketball state championship. Merryville in Beauregard Parish won its first state championship as the Lady Panthers defeated Midland 49 to 46. Avery Cournoyer was named the Most Outstanding Player as she scored 21 points…

The second ranked LSU baseball team broke out of its offensive slump last night with a 15 to 4 win over Sacramento State. LSU scored all of its runs in the first four innings. Jake Brown hit three home runs and drove in six runs and Derek Curiel hit his first home run and had his second straight three-hit performance. Casan Evans struck out nine in five and two-thirds of an inning for the win. Game two is at 2 PM.

The Ragin Cajuns won again last night beating Dallas Baptist six to five. Rigoberto Hernandez homered in the ninth inning to break a five-five tie. Donovan LaSalle and Kasen Bellard also homered for U-L Lafayette.

Nicholls scored five runs in the ninth to beat Texas A-and-M Corpus Christi 11 to 7.

UT Arlington edged ULM four to three. South Alabama beat Louisiana Tech nine to three. McNeese split a doubleheader with HCU, UIW over Northwestern 13 to nine, Southeastern thumped Grambling 13 to 3.

 

It will be LSU and South Carolina today in the semis of the SEC Tournament. The Tigers steam rolled Oklahoma 112 to 78. The 112 points is the second most in an SEC Tournament game and the 40 points in the fourth quarter is an SEC record. Flau’jae Johnson surpassed 2,000 points in her career. Carolina beat Kentucky 87 to 64 and LSU will try to break its 18-game losing streak to the Gamecocks at 3:30 today.

At the girls high school basketball tournament…Merryville won its first state championship, beating Midland 49-46. Simpson won its second straight as they dribbled past Pleasant Hill 58 to 39. Rosepine won its third title in four years, beating Holy Savior Menard 42 to 34 in OT. Pitkin won its first title since 1995, beating Bell City 51 to 50 and French Settlement wins its first title since 1994 as the Lady Lions downed Westlake 44 to 36.
