The LSU baseball team was swept again, for the second straight weekend, as Texas A&M took three from the Tigers at Alex Box Stadium. Yesterday, LSU lost five to two as the Tiger hitters were 0-for-7 with runners in scoring position, and starting pitcher Zac Cowan gave up four runs in 2.2 innings. LSU is now 6-and-12 in SEC play, Coach Jay Johnson is not giving up on the season and expects the players to keep fighting…

Cut 18 (14) “…owe that to them”

The Ragin Cajuns suffered a tough loss yesterday as Troy hit a walk-off grand slam to beat U-L Lafayette 15 to 11. The Trojans won the series two games to one.  U-L Lafayette will host Grambling on Tuesday. The Tigers are coming off a series loss to Prairie View.

ULM only scored six runs for the weekend and lost its home series versus  Arkansas State.

Louisiana Tech won its third straight Conference USA series as the Bulldogs took two of three from Kennesaw State. Tech won the rubber match yesterday four to three to improve to 11-and-7 in league play. Trey Hawsey hit his 11th home run, and Landon Fontenot threw five innings of no-hit ball.

Northwestern State has fallen out of first place in the Southland after they were swept by Lamar, losing a doubleheader to the Cardinals yesterday.

LSU gymnastics just missed out on its second national championship in three years, falling just short to Oklahoma. Oklahoma has won eight national championships. That’s four runner-up finishes for LSU.

It’s the final week of spring practice. Wisconsin transfer Dilin Jones has moved to the top of the depth chart at running back. Jones says he brings a variety of skills to the Tigers’ offense….

LSU lost its fourth straight SEC game last night as the Tigers fell to 10th-ranked Texas A&M ten to four. The Aggies hit three home runs, and LSU once again struggled on the mound with eight walks. Casan Evans suffered the loss as he allowed six runs in five plus innings. Game two has been moved up to 4:30.

Louisiana Tech won its eighth straight last night as the Bulldogs got another great pitching performance from Declan Dahl, who struck out 13 for his sixth win of the year. Thomas Allen struck out five for his third save.

The Ragin Cajuns gave up five runs in the sixth inning and lost to Troy seven to six. ULM scored two runs in the first inning, but that’s all they got and lost to Arkansas State three to two.

Lamar blanked Northwestern State five to nothing, U-T Rio Grande Valley over Southeastern Louisiana eight to six. McNeese defeated A-and-M Corpus Christi nine to four and Nicholls over Stephen F Austin nine to four.

LSU gymnastics will look to capture its second national championship in three seasons today. Sophomore Kaliya Lincoln says the Tigers must continue to rely on what they’ve done all season.

The meet begins at three PM. LSU will compete against defending national champion Oklahoma, SEC Champion Florida and Minnesota is the Cinderella of the foursome.

Former LSU point guard and ex-Lafayette Christian star Jada Richard has committed to Ole Miss. Richard averaged nearly 10 points a game for the Lady Tigers last season. Coach Kim Mulkey has already found her replacement by signing All-Big 12-performer Jada Williams from Iowa State.

LSU football has received a commitment from receiver Ah’Mari Stevens. The wideout from Florida was committed to Miami. The speedy receiver is a four-star recruit.

The No. 2-seeded LSU gymnastics team will compete in the NCAA Championship finals tomorrow. It looked like the Tigers season would end in the semifinals yesterday after struggles on bars and beam, as they trailed No. 6 Georgia. However, a strong floor performance lifted LSU past the GymDogs. Coach Jay Clark says he’s proud of how his team stayed committed to the process despite the setbacks.

LSU baseball begins the second half of SEC play tomorrow night when they host 10th ranked Texas A-and-M. The Tigers are expected to start sophomore right hander Casan Evans on the mound. After a dominant freshman campaign, Evans has been inconsistent this season. But former LSU star Ryan Therot says Evans will benefit from this experience …

Coach Jay Johnson says he’s hopeful but is uncertain on whether Cooper Moore will return to the mound this weekend as he tries to comeback from a triceps injury.

The Southeastern Louisiana softball team’s 25-game winning streak came to an end yesterday as the Lions lost to Stephen F Austin 4 to 3. It was S-L-U’s first loss since March 1st. Twenty-five wins in a row is a Southland record and it was the longest active winning streak in the country.

The LSU gymnastics squad competes in the semifinals of the NCAA Championships this afternoon at 3:30. The Tigers are the number two national seed. LSU competes against SEC champion Florida, Georgia and Stanford and the top two finishers advance to the Final Four on Saturday.

 

The House Natural Resources Committee approves a resolution that would remove the deer feeding bans that are in place where chronic wasting disease has been found. To control the spread of C-W-D, Louisiana Wildlife and Fisheries has imposed feeding and baiting bans in all or part of 18 parishes, mostly in northeastern Louisiana.

Back to baseball…the hottest team in the state is Louisiana Tech who has won seven in a row heading into this weekend’s series at Kennesaw State. Bulldogs Coach Lane Burroughs says his club is playing with confidence…

The additions through the transfer portal have not been as productive as they were in previous seasons for Coach Jay Johnson. Former LSU star Ryan Theriot says the LSU program for this season, does not have the revenue sharing funds and the NIL dollars that other teams have…

LSU baseball ended a four-game losing streak with a four to two win over Northwestern State. Jake Brown’s 424-foot, 3-run home run in the fifth inning was the difference.

Louisiana Tech won its seventh straight, a nine to three win over Little Rock. Casey McCoy and Cade Patterson each had three hits and drove in two runs.

McNeese beat Grambling seven to three and Nicholls lost to South Alabama four to three.

LSU softball pitcher Jayden Heavener threw a no-hitter last night as the 22nd-ranked Tigers blanked the Cajuns eight to nothing. It’s her second career five-inning no-hitter

After a rough weekend in Oxford, the LSU Tigers are back home tonight to take on Northwestern State. Coach Jay Johnson says Chris Stanfield has a chance to play tonight despite sore ribs from crashing into the wall while making a catch on Sunday. But second baseman Seth Dardar is questionable with an ankle injury. The Demons are in first place in the Southland, despite losing a series last weekend to Houston Christian.

Louisiana Tech baseball has now won six straight games after sweeping Middle Tennessee this past weekend. Just two weeks ago, the Bulldogs had lost eight straight, but head coach Lane Burroughs says he is proud of how his team has turned things around.

Former LSU star Flaue’Jae Johnson was the eighth overall selection by Golden State in last night’s WNBA draft. Shortly after, Johnson was traded to the Seattle Storm.

Pelicans star Zion Williamson appeared in 62 games this year, averaging 21 points, six rebounds and three assists per game. Williamson still has two years remaining on his contract, and he says he has no intention of leaving New Orleans anytime soon.

If former LSU golfer Sam Burns did not have a double bogey on the second hole yesterday, it might have been a different story for the Shreveport native at the Masters. Burns nearly battled back into contention with three birdies on the back nine to finish the tournament tied for seventh at nine under par. Rory McIlroy won his second straight green jacket as he finished at 12-under par.

LSU football held a scrimmage on Saturday inside Tiger Stadium that was open to the media, and the defense outperformed the offense. The defensive secondary looked good. Cornerback DJ Pickett was a freshman all-american last season, but believes he could have done better…

Cut 19 (14) “….every day”

Last week, LSU women’s basketball lost its starting point guard, Jada Richard, to the transfer portal. Coach Kim Mulkey moved quickly to find her replacement as she received a commitment from Jada Williams, who averaged 15 points and nearly eight assists for Iowa State last season. Williams was a first-team All-Big 12 selection.

And another bad season came to an end for the Pelicans last night as they lost to the Timberwolves 132-126. The Pels finish with a record of 26 and 56. Third-worst record in an 82-game season.
