In May of 2002, Scalise spoke at a convention of the European-American Unity and Rights Organization, which the Southern Poverty Law Center classifies as a hate group. In a written statement, Scalise spokesperson, Moira Bagley Smith, says that Scalise spoke to rally support for conservative fiscal policies in Louisiana and in no way to endorse the views and mission of this group.

The Lafayette Parish Sheriff’s Office says one teen is dead and another in stable condition when they were shot by a business owner after they allegedly broke into his store and tried to run him over. The owner told authorites that he fired several rounds into the vehicle after he saw one of the men raise a gun toward him. Authorities say 19-year-old Latorious Walker was found deceased in the vehicle with several gunshot wounds. 17-year-old Lamar Brooks was found with a single gunshot wound and taken to a local hospital.

The Iberville Parish Fire Department say three people were taken to a Baton Rouge hospital for evaluation after a chlorine leak happened at a chemical plant in St. Gabriel. Officials say it was a leak from a storage tank Monday morning. There was no off site impact.

A Thibodaux woman has been arrested with her 3rd DWI as she crashes her car with an unrestrained toddler inside into a home early Sunday morning. Twenty-nine year-old Arielle Dumas of Thibodaux was charged with 3rd offense DWI, reckless operation and no child restraint system. The child suffered minor injuries, and Dumas was booked into the Lafourche Parish Dentention Center on a $21 thousand, 300 dollar bond.
