Lafayette Police say one of their officers was shot Thursday night when attempting to locate a suspect they believe was involved in a shooting the night before. Michelle Southern with more.

Fort Polk has announced today a very highly decorated soldier from Missouri has died in a motor vehicle accident that took place at the Fort Polk Training area. Twenty-two year-old Silas Jones was a cannon crew member, who joined the army two years ago. Another soldier was injured and that accident is under investigation.

The officer and the suspect -23 year old Chase Chaisson-exchanged gunfire, and both men were hit. Chaisson faces numerous charges, including attempted first-degree murder of a police officer. Both men are in stable condition.

Monroe police say a man has been arrested after allegedly shooting his ex-wife’s boyfriend. Assistant police chief Don Bartley says 32-year-old Marlando Honeycutt had just dropped off his girlfriend’s kids at daycare center, when Lemerick Christopher walked up and confronted Honeycutt in the parking lot…

LSU Athletic Director Joe Alleva has received a three-year contract extension from the LSU Board of Supervisors, keeping his current annual salary of $725 thousand dollars through 2019. One of Alleva’s crowning touches was the expansion of Tiger Stadium, and he says they’re not done yet….

An Ascension Parish jury has found a Gonzales man guilty of molesting a young girl. 40 year-old Joseph Scott Mckinney molested the young girl numerous times when she was between the ages of 6 to 13. McKinney faces up to 99 years in prison.

A shooting in the parking lot of a Monroe daycare center has left a man hospitalized in stable condition. Monroe Police say 32-year-old Marlando Honeycut was shot in the face and chest area by his girlfriend’s ex-husband, Lemerick Christopher. Christopher fled the scene, but was apprehended a short time later.

Mouton says officers later apprehended the suspect, 23-year-old Chase Chaisson of Lafayette and transported him to an area hospital. Chaisson will be charged with attempted 1st degree murder of a police officer, among other charges, upon release. The resident of the apartment where the suspect was found hiding has also been charged.

A new poll shows Democratic former Governor Edwin Edwards making the runoff in the 6th District Congressional race, but that same survey shows Edwards finishing second in four different runoff scenarios. But pollster Darrell Glascock says you shouldn’t count out Edwards, just yet. He says Edwards has significant numbers as respondents second choice…

Stephanie Hayden Ford, the daughter and co-star of Will Hayden on the now-cancelled “Sons of Guns” television show, tells the “Dr. Phil” show her father inappropriately touched her when she was 12-years-old. Hayden’s attorney, C. Frank Holthaus, cautioned against emotional reactions and urged people to give the court process time to let the truth come out. But Ford says she stands by her story and if the allegations are proven true, her father should go to jail for a long time…

In a nationally televised interview, Stephanie Hayden Ford, the daughter and co-star of Will Hayden on the now-cancelled “Sons of Guns” television show, says her father inappropriately touched her when she was 12-years-old. The shooting occurred last night as the officer was searching an apartment looking for a person who was involved in a shooting the night before. Authorities says the suspect and the officer exchanged gunfire and both were hit. The police officer is in stable condition, the suspect was taken into custody in Acadia Parish and then transported to a hospital.

According to a new Glascock poll, Former Governor Edwin Edwards would make the runoff in the 6th Congressional District race — but he wouldn’t win in December. Pollster Darrell Glascock says the poll shows the Republicans in the runoff as Dan Claitor, Paul Dietzel, Garret Graves, and Lenar Whitney…:

Another point he makes is that traditionally half of voters don’t return to the polls for runoffs and that could help Edwards.
