The Hammond Police Department says a 58-year-old man was struck by a train and killed Tuesday. They say 58-year-old Ernest Watts was hearing and speech impaired and believe he did not hear the train as it approached. Authorities say that witnesses yelled out to warn Watts, but he apparently did not hear them. Investigators are trying to determine why Watts was on the tracks.

The Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries announce that fourteen juvenile whooping cranes have been released into White Lake Wetlands Conservation Area. Smith also confessed to other physical abuses against her child. Smith is charged with second degreee cruelty to juveniles. Other charges are possible pending the autopsy which is scheduled for tomorrow.

State Police say a pedistrian was struck and killed by a vehicle on US 190 in St. Tammany Parish last night. Authorities say 27-year-old Joseph Robinson III of Lacombe was attempting to retrieve a ladder that fell from the back of his truck when he was hit by an SUV. The Lafayette Parish Sheriff’s Office says one teen is dead and another in stable condition after being shot by a business owner after they allegedly broke into his store and tried to run him over. The owner told authorities that he fired several rounds into the vehicle after one of the men raised a gun toward him. Authorities say 19-year-old Latorious Walker was found dead in the vehicle with several gunshot wounds. 17-year-old Lamar Brooks was found with a single gunshot wound and taken to a local hospital.
