Mike Edmonson and another trooper. Baton Rouge Senator Dan Claitor filed a lawsuit challenging the retirement boost claiming the process lawmakers used violates the constitution.

The Talluah Police Department says a 3-year-old boy accidentally shot and killed himself after finding a loaded handgun in a home. Spokeswoman Yvonne Lewis says the mother left the home for about 3 to five minutes to get the kids something to drink at a nearby store and when she returned the child had already found the gun and shot himself…

According to State Farm, the number of vehicle-deer collisions are on the rise in Louisiana. Spokesman Gary Stephenson says there were over 9,700 vehicle-deer collisions in the state last year. He says the last few months of the year is the most active time for these accidents…

According to a report released Monday, Louisiana doesn’t have a policy for the way it should handle allegations of sexual assaults on college campuses and as a result students are more vulnerable to such incidents. New Orleans State Senator JP Morrell asked for the report and said legislation will likely be proposed that seeks to address this problem in the next legislative session.

The Caddo Parish Sheriff’s office says a couple from Bethany is under arrest for allegedly not reporting a serious injury to a 15-month-old girl for nearly two days. They say 27-year-old Jeffrey Noble claimed he fell asleep while the child was in his lap then he landed on top of the child. Investigators believe about 48 hours went by before they took the little girl to the hospital. Noble and 26-year-old Stephanie File-Malone were booked with cruelty to a juvenile.

A couple from Bethany is under arrest after allegedly failing to report serious injuries to a 15-month old child for nearly 42 hours. The Caddo Parish Sherriff’s office says 27-year-old Jeffrey Noble and 26-year-old Stephanie File-Malone told deputies the child was in the lap or Noble when the suspect fell asleep then dropped the toddle. Authorities say two students at Central High School were sent to the hospital Monday from class after apparently ingesting synthetic marijuana in the bath room. They say the boys, aged 17 and 18, went back to class and starting having issues. The East Baton Rouge Parish Sheriff’s office last said they were still waiting to talk to the boys at the hospital.

Police in Tallulah say a 3-year-old little boy is dead after he accidentally got his hands on a loaded handgun and shot himself. They say Dart Turner’s mother had left the house for just a very short time and when she returned she found him dead of a gunshot wound. Police say preliminary reports indicates this was in fact an accident. The Madison Parish Sheriff’s Office is also investigating.

Deputies with the Livingston Parish Sheriff’s Office need the public’s help in locating a vehicle that hit and killed a man in Albany over the weekend. They say they found 27-year-old Cleveland Mareal Barnes, Jr. of Tickfaw, La. in the road. He was pronounced dead at the scene. Deputies believe Barnes was run over by a vehicle that left the scene. Officials say there is no description of a vehicle or a suspect. Please contact authorities if you have information on this incident.

A Tallulah woman faces more than 30 felony counts related to a tax fraud scheme. Investigators say Chetoria Tyler submitted fraudulent income tax returns on behalf of clients of her tax preparation business resulting in more than $60,000 in fraudulent tax refunds. Tyler is the 33rd person arrested under a joint anti-tax fraud initiative of the Louisiana Department of Revenue and the state Attorney General’s Office.
