Louisiana leaders are increasingly concerned about bird flu following the USDA’s confirmation of a second strain in U.S. dairy cattle.  But Agriculture Commissioner Mike Strain says the virus has not yet been detected in the state’s commercial poultry operations.

A man in southwest Louisiana died earlier this year from the bird flu. He was infected with the same strain of bird flu detected in cattle in Nevada.

Law enforcement say they are ready for President Donald Trump’s arrival in New Orleans. Trump will attend the Super Bowl. New Orleans Police Superintendent Anne Kirkpatrick says that will mean additional street closures…

A non-profit organization is teaming up with the Orleans Parish Sheriff’s Office on an anti-human trafficking operation during Super Bowl Week. Andrew Greenstein reports.

A lieutenant with State Police has been arrested following an off-duty domestic violence incident. Baton Rouge Police took into custody last night 40-year-old James Jefferson the Third. He was booked with domestic abuse battery, with child endangerment. Jefferson has been employed by State Police since 2007.

Security is tight in the French Quarter as more visitors have arrived for Super Bowl 59. Louisiana National Guard soldiers are patrolling Bourbon Street and Lt. Governor Billy Nungesser says federal resources are also on the ground…

Barriers are also up to limit vehicle traffic, especially in the Bourbon Street area.

The Orleans Parish Sheriff’s Office is teaming up with the nonprofit group In Our Backyard to host anti-trafficking operations during Super Bowl Week. Human traffickers often use major events like the Super Bowl to exploit vulnerable people, especially children. Cheryl Csiky (“Chicky”), the executive director of In Our Backyard, says human trafficking is not the same as kidnapping or human smuggling.

During Super Bowl Week in Las Vegas last year, 16 missing children were found safe.

LSU Football Coach Brian Kelly says the comments made by Greg Brooks Senior on ABC’s Good Morning America struck a nerve with him. Brooks Senior alleged that Kelly and the LSU coaching staff has not reached out to his son since October 23rd. Former LSU safety Greg Brooks Junior now struggles to walk and talk after surgery to remove a tumor from his brain. During a press conference on Wednesday, Kelly says he visited Brooks on multiple occasions.…

The Brooks family is suing LSU and Our Lady of the Lake regional medical center claiming the mishandled the emergency surgery performed on the former LSU defensive back.

Former Saints defensive back C-J Gardner Johnson will be playing in Sunday’s Super Bowl as he’s a member of the Eagles defensive secondary. New Orleans traded Johnson prior to the start of the 2022 season….

LSU football coach Brian Kelly vehemently denies the accusation he was not there for former Tigers safety Greg Brooks Junior following his brain surgery. According to Brooks’ family, the surgery to remove a tumor, resulted in multiple seizures that left him permanently disabled. In an interview on ABC’s Good Morning America, Brooks’ father says no one from LSU’s coaching staff has reached out since October 2023, right after the surgery

Brooks Senior and his son, former LSU safety Greg Brooks, appeared on Good Morning America earlier this week to discuss Greg’s permanent disability that they say was caused by the surgery. The Brooks’ family has sued Our Lady of the Lake Hospital and LSU.

LSU men’s basketball had another bad second half last night and fell to 1-and-8 in the Southeastern Conference with an 81 to 62 loss to the Georgia Bulldogs.

There is one player from Louisiana Tech playing in Sunday’s Super Bowl and that’s Philadelphia Eagles defensive tackle Milton Williams, who had five sacks during the regular season. Williams says it will be special stepping onto sports’ biggest stage in a state he knows well…

Louisiana Tech men’s basketball is at Liberty tonight. The Bulldogs are looking for their first road win in Conference USA play. The Flames are one of the best shooting teams in the league. Tip off is at 6 PM.

Last night, The Ragin Cajuns fell to Georgia Southern 83 to 82 and ULM was blown out by 97 to 64 Georgia State.

The Pelicans lost their seventh straight, losing to Denver 144 to 119. But the big story is that New Orleans has traded Brandon Ingram to Toronto for Bruce Brown Junior, Kelly Olynyk, and two draft picks, including a first rounder.

Biologist Jason Adriance says the highest overall mortalities of a variety of species have been observed in coastal marshes between the Mississippi and Atchafalaya Rivers.

Louisiana Attorney General Liz Murrill is warning fans about ticket scams as Big Game activities continue in New Orleans. She cautions that major events like the Super Bowl attract scammers who deceive unsuspecting buyers with fake merchandise and tickets.

Murrell advises purchasing tickets only from reputable sources.

The Super Bowl will be a happy homecoming for Kansas City Chiefs safety Justin Reid. He was born in Prairieville and played his high school football at Dutchtown High School before moving on to Stanford. Reid says he’s excited to be playing in the biggest game in front of family and friends.

The Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries says last month’s artic blast has resulted in numerous fish kills. LDWF Biologist Jason Adriance says many saltwater species, such as Spotted Seatrout and Red Drum, succumbed to the cold as water temperatures dropped below 40°F for several days.

Adriance says LDWF has investigated over 70 fish kills statewide, with the highest Spotted Seatrout and Black Drum mortalities in the Terrebonne/Timbalier Basin and the highest Red Drum and Sheepshead losses in the Barataria Basin.

Adriance says compared to the severe freeze of December 1989, this event was shorter and less extreme.

After more than a dozen people got sick from eating oysters collected from Area 3 in the Gulf Coast, the state is reiterating to people that seafood caught in Louisiana is safe to eat. 15 people became infected with Norovirus after eating oysters harvested in that area in the second half of January. Wildlife and Fisheries Secretary Madison Sheahan says people visiting New Orleans for the Super Bowl should by no means be discouraged from eating Louisiana seafood.

Sheahan says the Super Bowl is a golden opportunity for people to experience Louisiana seafood.

Sheahan says there’s a new state law that requires restaurants and food vendors to indicate whether their seafood was caught off the Louisiana coast.

The Department of Health has closed Oyster Area 3 and has issued a recall for all oysters harvested from there since January 10th.

But New Orleans Police Superintendent Anne Kirkpatrick says that does not mean you can bring a gun into a bar…

Kirkpatrick says they will stop people who are negligently carrying, if you have a gun in your waist band and not in a holster.

Kirkpatrick says Louisiana’s law allows non-felon adults to conceal carry without a permit. But she says it would be unwise to bring a gun into a hospitality area…
