Former LSU star Alex Bregman is officially leaving Houston as the free agent third baseman has signed a three-year 120-million dollar contract with the Boston Red Sox. That’s one of the highest average annual salaries in the big leagues.

Kellen Moore will be introduced today as the Saints new head coach. Moore and his family took in the Pelicans game last night and saw the Birds lose their 10th straight game, 119 to 111 to the Sacramento Kings.

The LSU men’s basketball team’s losing streak grew to seven games last night with a 70 to 58 loss to Arkansas. The Tigers at Oklahoma. The Sooners are also struggling, they lost at Missouri last night.

The Ragin Cajuns lost at home to Troy 74 to 56 to fall to 8-and-18 on the season.

Tonight ULM hosts Texas State, Louisiana Tech takes on Kennesaw State in Ruston.

A-G Liz Murrill is working to extradite a doctor in New York accused of mailing abortion pills across state lines. Doctor Margaret Carpenter is facing charges in Louisiana for prescribing abortion-inducing medication to a pregnant minor in West Baton Rouge Parish. New York Governor Kathy Hochul is fighting the extradition attempt because she says a doctor should not go to jail for providing basic reproductive health care.

LSU law professor Ken Levy returns to class today. Levy was suspended after using foul language and criticizing Governor Jeff Landry and President Trump during a lecture last month. Levy’s attorney Jill Craft says a state judge determined the suspension violated his freedom of speech.

The Louisiana Policy Institute for Children CEO Libby Sonnier says this initiative features 12 statewide events to raise awareness among policymakers, business leaders, and families.

A Rapides Parish man could be the first death row inmate to be executed in Louisiana in 15 years. Larry Roy is scheduled to be executed by nitrogen hypoxia on March 19th. Roy killed his ex-girlfriend’s ex-husband, Freddie Richard Jr., and her aunt, Rosetta Salas. He also attacked her and her two children, but they survived. Attorney General Liz Murrill says executing Roy and other condemned inmates is long overdue.

Attorney General Murrill says she and Governor Landry campaigned on reinstituting the death penalty.

Recordings from Levy’s class revealed him using profanity to criticize political figures, but Craft says LSU wasn’t clear on the reason behind the suspension.

A complaint from a student is what started the investigation into Levy’s conduct. LSU President William Tate testified it was his decision to suspend Levy. Landry says Levy’s behavior was unprofessional and the judge ignored the facts of the law and the Constitution. He expects the decision to be overturned by an appeals court or the Louisiana Supreme Court.

U-C San Diego transfer Anthony Eyanson will start on Saturday and Chase Shores makes his return from Tommy John Surgery on Sunday against Purdue Fort Worth.

A mother of a Red River High School player left the stands and verbally assaulted a referee after her daughter was ejected for committing a flagrant foul. LHSAA Director Eddie Bonine says kids look to adults to set the tone…

The Pelicans and the LSU Tigers will try to end long losing streaks tonight. The New Orleans Pelicans have lost nine in a row as they host the Sacramento Kings. LSU has lost six in a row heading into tonight’s game against Arkansas.

LSU-Alexandria is ranked number one in the latest NAIA Coaches Poll. The Generals are 23 and 1 and won the Red River Athletic Conference Regular season title for a second year in a row with their win over Xavier last night. L-S-U-A will host Our Lady of the Lake tomorrow.

Northwestern State is not only attracting new students, but it is keeping the students it currently has.

Van Erikson, the director of enrollment management at Northwestern State, says among first-time freshmen, 89-percent return for their second semester. Erikson says one driver of that is small student-to-faculty ratios.

As for overall enrollment, Northwestern State is at just over 77-hundred students, both undergraduate and graduate. Erikson says while Northwestern State will never grow to the size of LSU, they’re still looking to increase enrollment.

Erikson says the school would ultimately like to grow to somewhere between nine-thousand and 95-hundred students.

Congressman Clay Higgins sent a letter to President Trump advocating for tariffs and stronger trade enforcement on seafood imports from China, Ecuador, India, Indonesia, and Vietnam. Deborah Long with the Southern Shrimp Alliance says the U-S shrimp industry is facing a financial crisis because of cheap imports

There is a concern about banned antibiotics contained in imported shrimp. Higgins urged the administration to impose antidumping and countervailing duties, and enforce stricter testing protocols.  Long says Higgins is leading the call for stricter standards.

Long says that compared to the E-U where all shipments are tested before being shipped and 50-percent are tested again when delivered, the U-S tests less than percent of imported seafood.

A state judge has ordered LSU to reinstate a professor who was suspended last month after he used foul language to criticize Governor Landry and President Trump during a lecture. Rob Levy’s attorney argued that his removal from class violated his academic freedom, while Governor Landry called the ruling absurd and it will be appealed.

She says Japan and Europe have much higher standards before accepting imported seafood…

Kellen Moore is the new head coach of the Saints after helping the Philadelphia Eagles win their second Super Bowl. Moore was the Eagles offensive coordinator and he’s been an offensive coordinator for six seasons in the NFL. Moore also spent six years in the NFL as a quarterback and he was a record-setting Q-B at Boise State. Mike Triplett with New Orleans-dot-Football says Moore brings a good resume to the Saints…

Moore will be introduced as the Saints head coach on Thursday. It’s rumored that Eagles quarterbacks coach Doug Nussmeier could be the Saints offensive coordinator and former Chargers head coach Brandon Staley as the defensive coordinator.

127.7 million people watched the Super Bowl and Fox Sports says it’s the most watched Super Bowl ever. Governor Jeff Landry says New Orleans should host the Super Bowl every five years.

The Port of Iberia will soon host a major development, bringing nearly 600 jobs to the region. Baton Rouge-based Cajun Industries has chosen the port for its new 60-acre assembly yard, where heavy industrial modules will be built. Port of Iberia Executive Director Craig Romero says Cajun Industry isn’t wasting any time.

Romero emphasized that at full capacity, the facility will employ over 600 skilled workers, including crane operators, pipefitters, and welders.

We’re getting local reaction to President Trump’s executive order halting new development of wind energy. LaRose Republican Representative Joseph Orgeron says Trump’s order does not affect any current wind farms.

Orgeron says Trump is a longtime critic of wind farms, and it may be personal.

A Flood Watch is in effect for northern Louisiana due to heavy rainfall expected through Wednesday afternoon. LSU Public Health Climatologist Barry Keim says much of the watch area will see 2-4 inches of rain.

The National Weather Service says Monroe, Jonesboro and Natchitoches could see as much as six inches of rain. Keim says heavy rain may lead to flooding of low-lying areas, rivers, creeks and roads…

The National Weather Service  says there will be a 50-75% chance that rainfall totals will be greater than three inches for the area. Keim says there’s also the chance for severe weather…

The NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport is reporting Eagles offensive coordinator Kellen Moore has agreed to be the Saints next head coach. The 36-year-old is leaving Philadelphia after helping the Eagles win their second Super Bowl in franchise history. An official announcement is expected soon.

In high school football coaching news…Jimmy Zachery is leaving his alma mater Opelousas to be the next head coach at Liberty Magnet High School in Baton rouge. Zachery guided Opelousas to its first state championship in football in 2023 and a quarterfinal appearance last season. Zachery told the Advocate he wants to coach at the 5A level and he takes over a program that’s won just six games over the last three seasons.

College basketball last night…Southern lost its first SWAC game, Northwestern State rallied from a 12-point deficit to beat Nicholls 72 to 60 in Thibodaux. McNeese’s Christian Shumate had 19 points and 14 rebounds as the Cowboys defeated East Texas A-and-M 67 to 51. Southeastern won its fourth straight by beating Houston Christian 69 to 60.

This weekend is the opening weekend for college baseball and LSU has a stacked outfield in 2025. Coach Jay Johnson says he has as many as eight guys who can start in the outfield including sophomore Jake Brown, who hit .264 during his freshman campaign…
