LSU was named a number two national seed in the NCAA Baseball Tournament today and they’ll host Lehigh this Friday in the Baton Rouge regional. The other two teams in the B-R Regional are UNC-Wilmington and Tulane. If the Tigers are able to advance out of the Baton Rouge Regional, they could face the Houston Cougars in the super regionals. Houston beat LSU in the regionals last year.

LSU’s first opponent in the NCAA Baseball Tournanment is Lehigh. The Mountain Hawks were 25-and-29 overall and they beat Navy in a best out of three series to win the Patriot League Tournament. First pitch for that game is set for 3 PM on the SEC Network.

The Ragin Cajuns are in the NCAA Baseball Tournament for a third straight season. UL Lafayette received an automatic bid after winning the Sun Belt Tournament and they’ll head to Houston, where they’ll play second-seeded Rice. Houston is the top seed in that regional, and Houston Baptist, who won the Southland Tournament, is the four seed. According to data from the federal government, the average price for a pound of ground beef in March was $4.20, up almost 14-percent from 2014. For the fourth straight season, LSU is a national seed in the NCAA Baseball Tournament. The Tigers will take on Lehigh Friday afternoon as the host team of the Baton Rouge Regional, which also has Tulane as a 3-seed. UNC-Wilmington is the two-seed. The Ragin Cajuns are in the NCAA Tournament for a three-straight year and they’ll face second-seeded Rice in the Houston Regional.
Eleven-thousand American flags have been placed along Huey Long’s grave and the state capitol steps. Each flag represents a Louisiana solider who died in combat. The Blue Star Mothers of Louisiana, which is an organiziation of mothers who have children that served in the armed forces, are the ones who put the flags there. Joining the Tigers in the Baton Rouge Regional will be Lehigh, Tulane, and UNC Wilmington. LSU will face Lehigh, the Patriot League champion, Friday at 3PM. The Mountain Hawks come into the regional with a 25-29 overall record. The Green Wave will take on the Seahawks, the Colonial Athletic Association tournament champions, Friday night at seven.

In college softball, the number eight LSU Tigers scored four in the first inning yesterday and fended off several rallies to defeat the sixteenth ranked Arizona Wildcats 10-5 to win their Super Regional and advance to the Women’s College World Series. This is the Tigers’ fourth ever berth in the World Series and they will face Auburn Thursday at 1:30 in Oklahoma City.

School Officials say a Ouachita Parish High School student-athlete died in a swimming accident in Arkansas over the weekend. They say Kenton Norman was with his family in Hot Springs Village, Arkansas when he drowned trying to swim to an inflatable trampoline in a lake. Norman was a freshman last season on the Ouachita Lions football team.

In the NBA Eastern Conference Finals, the Cleveland Cavaliers take a three games to none lead over the Atlanta Hawks after a 114-111 overtime win last night. LeBron James lead the way for the Cavs with a triple-double; 37 points, 18 rebounds, and 13 assists. Former Louisiana Tech standout Paul Milsaps scored 22 for the Hawks in a losing effort. Game four of this series is tomorrow night.

State Police say a crash in Iberville Parish has killed one and seriously injured another. They say an SUV, driven by 31-year-old King Ellis of Jeanerette, was driving in the wrong lane on US 90 when he collided with a truck driven by 18-year-old Jordan Prince of Loreauville. Prince, a recent Loreauville High School graduate, was pronounced dead at the scene. Ellis was transported to a local hospital with severe injuries. Authorities say impairment on the part of Ellis is suspected.

Despite falling to Florida 2-1 in the semifinals of the SEC Baseball Tournament Saturday afternoon, LSU was selected as an NCAA Baseball Regional host site. The Tigers will play host to a four team regional at Alex Box Stadium beginning Friday. LSU is hosting its 23rd regional in school history.

Junior second baseman Stefan Troaclair’s two-out grand slam in the top of the 12th, gave UL-Lafayette a 5-1 win over South Alabama and the Sun Belt Baseball Tournament championship. This is the second straight tournament championship for the Ragin Cajuns and third in school history. This will also be the third straight season UL-Lafayette will adance to the NCAA regionals.

Southeastern Louisiana is keeping its fingers crossed for an at-large bid to the NCAA Baseball Tournament. The Lions finished the season with a 42-17 record and took home the Southland Conference regular season championship. But Southeastern had a disappointing conference tournament and their fate is left in the hands of the selection committee.

The entire 64-team NCAA Baseball Tournament field will be announced this morning at 11.

After the release of Shayne Graham, a kicker battle will take place in New Orleans Saints Training Camp between Dustin Hopkins and Zach Hocker. Hopkins was a starter for the Buffalo Bills in 2013 before a groin injury placed him on injured reserve. He was eventually released and signed to the Saints’ practice squad last December. Hocker was drafted by the Washington Redskins in 2014, but was let go before the season began.
