A survey by the consumer financial company Bankrate found that 23% of holiday travelers will be taking fewer trips for the holidays and 27% will most likely drive due to higher travel costs. Senior Industry Analyst Ted Rossman says 77 percent of travelers are modifying their plans to save money.

The U.S. House is expected to try again tomorrow to elect a new Speaker of the House. Fifty-five Republicans voted against Jim Jordan in a ballot on Friday after the party’s first nominee, House Republican Steve Scalise was forced to withdraw due to opposition from Jordan supporters. Baton Rouge Congressman, Garret Graves says the focus should be selecting a Speaker so the House can conduct business.

Republican Governor-elect Jeff Landry garnered more than fifty percent of the vote and avoided a runoff in a primary that had a turnout of only thirty-six percent. Landry thanked his supporters in Broussard Saturday night and said his victory is historic and symbolic.

Landry received 52-percent of the vote, Democrat Shawn Wilson 26-percent, and everyone else was in single digits. Cross says none of the other candidates made a persuasive case…

A state trooper in Monroe has been placed on administrative leave after an of-duty D-W-I arrest early yesterday morning. Officials say 33 year old David Hamm of Rayville voluntarily submitted to a breath test after he crashed his vehicle. Hamm was booked into the Madison Parish Detention Center.
