The NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport is reporting the Saints are planning to speak with former Cowboys and Packers head coach Mike McCarthy early next week. Before winning a Super Bowl in Green Bay and winning a bunch of games in Dallas, McCarthy was an offensive coordinator in New Orleans for five seasons from 2000 to 2004. The 2000 team won the franchise’s first playoff game.

But before McCarthy meets with New Orleans, he’ll reportedly interview with the Bears tomorrow.

Some say the Saints head coaching vacancy is not an attractive job, because the team is 52-million dollars over the salary cap. But General Manager Mickey Loomis says it’s manageable…

The LSU men’s basketball team is in action tonight as they host Arkansas. The Tigers are 0-and-3 in SEC play and have lost the last two games by double digits. The Razorbacks are coming off home losses to Ole Miss and Florida.

The Pelicans are at the Chicago Bulls tonight. New Orleans is 8-and-32, Chicago is 18-and-21. Tip off is at 7 PM.

The fifth-ranked LSU women’s basketball team won a back-and-forth game with Vanderbilt, 83 to 77 last night, to stay undefeated. Flau’Jae (flah-jay) Johnson and had 25 points and Aneesah (uh-nee-suh) Morrow had 23 points and 15 rebounds. She now has 25-hundred career points and 15-hundred career rebounds, becoming just the eighth player in NCAA history to accomplish that feat.

Priority number one for the Saints is to find a new head coach. New Orleans met virtually with three candidates, Lions defensive coordinator Aaron Glenn, Giants O-C Mike Kafka, and Dolphins defensive coordinator Anthony Weaver. They are also expected to interview interim head coach Darren Rizzi sometime this week. The Saints could also be interested in interviewing Mike McCarthy, who is out as head coach of the Dallas Cowboys.

Saints General Manager Mickey Loomis believes his team is not far away from being a playoff team again. He says injuries to several stars on offense helped derail their 2024 season and they want to look at why the team had so many injuries…

Loomis is confident they’ll make a good hire for head coach and his reasoning, because they’ve done it before. According to Nick Underhill of New Orleans football, he expects the Saints to be very interested in Mike McCarthy who just became a free agent after failing to reach a new deal with the Cowboys.

Baseball season is right around the corner, and D-1 baseball ranks LSU third in its preseason poll behind Texas A-and-M and Virgina.

LSU football has added one of the best safeties in the transfer portal as TaMarcus Cooley has signed with the Tigers after having a nice season at North Carolina State. Cooley had 39 tackles, nine passes defensed and three interceptions and according to Pro Football Focus, Cooley was the highest-graded player on N-C State’s defense.

The fifth ranked LSU women’s basketball team stayed undefeated on the season as the Lady Tigers outscored Vanderbilt 83 to 77. Aneesah Morrow had 23 points and 15 rebounds, while Flau’Jae Johnson had a strong fourth quarter and finished with 25 points. Mikaylah Williams added 20 points.

The McNeese Men’s basketball team stayed undefeated in the Southland with a 75 to 59 win over Houston Christian. Robert Brown the third had 37 points as Nicholls outscored U-I-W 88 to 82. Southeastern Louisiana won its third straight by beating Stephen F Austin 66 to 59. Northwestern State lost to Texas A-and-M Corpus Christi 73 to 64,

Former LSU quarterback Jayden Daniels is the talk of the NFL after leading the Washington Commanders to their first playoff win in 19 years last night, a 23 to 20 victory over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Daniels threw for 268 yards and two touchdowns to become just the fourth rookie QB in NFL history to win his first career playoff start on the road.

Will the Saints select a quarterback in the first round of this year’s NFL draft? New Orleans has the ninth overall pick and general manager Mickey Loomis says he still has confidence in Derek Carr and the other quarterbacks on the roster….

Sean Payton and the Denver Broncos were no match for Buffalo as the Bills beat the Broncos 31 to 7.

Former LSU wide receiver Kyren Lacy was booked into the Lafourche Parish jail yesterday and then released on a 151-thousand-dollar bond. He faces charges for his alleged role in a fatal head-on crash that happened last month on Louisiana Highway 20.

The Pelicans nearly pulled off the upset last night in Boston but lost to the Celtics 120 to 119.

The LSU Tigers are off to an 0-and-3 start in SEC play after losing at Ole Miss on Saturday. The Bayou Bengals will try again tomorrow night when they host Arkansas. The undefeated Lady Tigers host Vanderbilt tonight.

Former LSU wide receiver Kyren Lacy is facing charges of negligent homicide and hit and run after authorities say his reckless driving on Louisiana Highway 20 in Lafourche Parish caused a head-on collision that killed a 78 year old man. L-S-P says the wreck happened on December 17th and Lacy kept driving, failing to stop and render aid or call authorities. Lacy’s agent says Kyren is fully participating in the investigation and they strongly believe the facts will demonstrate the truth. Lacy led the Tigers in touchdown catches this past season and was expected to be a mid-round selection in this year’s NFL draft.

Louisiana Tech defensive coordinator Jeremiah Johnson is reportedly leaving the Bulldogs for Coastal Carolina. Johnson turned around the Bulldogs defense this past season and they were ranked number one in Conference USA in total defense.

Ohio State doubled up Texas last night 28 to 14 and the Buckeyes will play Notre Dame in the title game on January 20th.

Pelicans star Zion Williamson was suspended for last night’s game in Philadelphia for a violation of team policies. It’s reported Williamson was late for the team’s flight to Philadelphia. Coach Willie Green said before the game several incidents led up to the suspension. New Orleans went on to win without Williamson, beating the 76ers 123 to 115. Another big scoring night for C-J McCollum as he had 38 points.

In college hoops…LSU looks for its first SEC win as the Tigers take on 23rd ranked Ole Miss at 5 PM. LSU has been plagued by slow starts and turnovers in two SEC losses.

A former LSU football star is in trouble with the law.  Louisiana State Police announced on Friday afternoon an arrest warrant for 24-year-old Kyren Lacy, who caught nine touchdown passes for the Tigers in 2024. Troopers say back on December 17th, Lacy recklessly passed multiple vehicles at a high rate of speed on Louisiana Highway 20 in Lafourche Parish. Investigators say Lacy’s actions resulted in a head-on crash, which resulted in the death of 78-year-old Herman Hall of Thibodaux. Lacy has been charged with negligent homicide and hit and run for not stopping after the crash he caused.

The Saints announced they interviewed Lions defensive coordinator Aaron Glenn today. Glenn is very familiar with the Black and Gold. The former cornerback played for the Saints in 2008 and he was the Saints defensive backs coach from 2016 and 2020.

Saints special teams ace J-T Gray has been voted to the Associated Press All-Pro team. The Mississippi native led the NFL with 26 special teams tackles, which is a new career-high.

The NFL playoffs begin this weekend. It starts with the Houston Texans taking on the Los Angeles Chargers. Former LSU star and Texans cornerback Derek Stingley Junior has been named AP First Team All Pro.

On Sunday afternoon, Sean Payton leads the Broncos into their playoff matchup with the Bills. Sunday night, it’s Jayden Daniels and the Commanders visiting the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. January 2006 is the last time the Washington franchise won a playoff game. Daniels says there’s no added pressure in trying to break the postseason victory drought…

Gilbert had 22 points, while Aneesah Morrow had 23 points and 21 rebounds as LSU improved to 18-and-0 on the season.

Louisiana Tech men’s basketball jumped out to a 25 to four lead and went on to beat FIU 81 to 64 to improve to 1-and-2 in Conference USA Play. Al Green hit five three-pointers in the first 13 minutes and finished with a season-high 21 points.

In the Sun Belt, the Ragin Cajuns and ULM both lost.

Sean Payton has the Denver Broncos in the playoffs in his second season in Denver. The Broncos will visit the Buffalo Bills on Sunday. Payton was nine and eight in the postseason as the head coach of the Saints and he had Drew Brees as his quarterback. Rookie Bo Nix is the starting quarterback for the Broncos, and Payton expects the former Auburn and Oregon star to do just fine…
