The Bulldogs will look to rebound at Rice this Saturday after a tough home loss to Southern Miss. La Tech led by eight points with 1:23 left in regulation, but lost to the Golden Eagles 34-27 in double overtime.

Grambling has won seven in a row as the Tigers defeated Alcorn State 41-14. Devante Kincade threw for 268 yards and two scores and linebacker De’Arius Christmas had 14 tackles, a sack and forced fumble and both players were named SWAC Players of the Week.

The Pelicans got their first win of the season, beating the Lakers 119-112. Los Angeles lost a 21-point deficit in the second half, as Pels star forward Anthony Davis racked up a total of 27 points in the game and 17 rebounds. Boogie Cousins added a double-double with 22 points and 11 rebounds.

In the Southland, Southeastern exploded for a fifth straight victory following a dominant 56-21 performance over Abilene Christian.

No. 19 McNeese made history in a 55-7 win over Incarnate Word. The Cowboys defense had four pick-sixes which tied an all-division NCAA record.

Grambling State now tops the SWAC after pulling away from Alcorn State 41-14.

ULM fell to South Alabama 33-23. Louisiana Tech lost to Southern Miss 34-27. Northwestern State got hammered by Central Arkansas, 45-17. Tulane dropped a 34-28 decision to South Florida.

There’s a lot of disappointment in Lafayette today after the Ragin Cajuns were blown out on national T-V. Arkansas State handed it to UL Lafayette last night beating the Cajuns 47-3 in the largest margin of victory in series history. U-L is now 3-4 overall, 2-and-2 in the Sun Belt.

Louisiana Tech is a slight favorite to beat Southern Miss on Saturday at Joe Aillet Stadium. The Bulldogs are 1-and-1 in Conference USA, while the Golden Eagles are 2-and-1, so this is really a must win, if La Tech wants to win the West Division.

ULM is a small underdog to South Alabama as that game will be played tomorrow in Mobile. Kickoff is at 4 PM. The Warhawks should have some success in the air as the Jaguars pass defense is ranked last in the Sun Belt.

Also on Saturday, Tulane welcomes 16th ranked South Florida to Yulman Stadium. The Green Wave are undefeated at home, while the Bulls have won all six of their games this season by two touchdowns or more.

In FCS action, 17th ranked Grambling State hosts Alcorn State at 2 Pm. Both teams are undefeated in SWAC play. 19th ranked McNeese hosts Incarnate Word for homecoming. And Northwestern State hosts 6th ranked Central Arkansas. The Bears are led by former Airline star Haden Hildebrand. He’s completed 68-percent of his passes this season and has 14 touchdowns and five interceptions.

The LSU Tigers leave for north Mississippi today as they get ready for Saturday’s SEC West contest against Ole Miss. The Bayou Bengals should be able to establish their running game against the Rebels. Ole Miss is allowing 239 yards on the ground a game. And Head Coach Ed Orgeron says Derrius Guice is the healthiest he’s been all season. Guice has rushed for over 100 yards just once this season and that was against Chattanooga.

It was a rough night for the Ragin Cajuns last night as Arkansas State steam rolled UL Lafayette 47-3. A-S-U Quarterback Justice Hansen threw for 275 yards and ran for another 121 yards and accounted for three touchdowns in the first half. UL Lafayette’s Jordan Davis threw for just 128 yards.

For the second consecutive day, the Saints only had two players on their injury report, offensive tackle Terron Armstead and wide receiver Willie Snead, but they are expected to play Sunday against Green Bay. Packers have 14 players on their injury report, including linebacker Ahmad Brooks.

LSU Football Coach Ed Orgeron said on his radio show last night that he antcipates Toby Weathersby will play against the Ole Miss Rebels. Weathersby missed last Saturday’s game with an injury he sustained in the win over Florida.

The big game in the SWAC this week is 17th ranked Grambling hosting Alcorn State. Both teams are undefeated in league play. These two teams have met in the SWAC championship the last two seasons.

A disappointing start to the NBA season for the Pelicans. They lost to Memphis 103-to-91 last night.

For the third year in a row, the Pelicans lost their season opener. After scoring 34 points in the first quarter, Memphis rallied back for 103 to 91-win over New Orleans. DeMarcus Cousins and Anthony Davis did their part for the Pels. Cousins had 28 points and 10 rebounds, while A-D finished with 33 points and 18 rebounds. But the Pelicans only had seven assists in the final 36 minutes.

The LSU men’s basketball team has been picked to finish last in the Southeastern Conference according to a poll of SEC and national media members. The Tigers were 10-21, 2-and-16 in the SEC last season. First year Head Coach Will Wade says the low expectations is what they expected.

There’s some good injury news involving the LSU football team. Head coach Ed orgeron says starting right tackle Toby Weathersby should play this Saturday against Ole Miss. Weathersby didn’t play last week, because of an injury he suffered against Florida.

The Saints Cam Jordan was named NFC Defensive Player of the Week. Jordan recorded five tackles, two sacks, three passes defensed and had an interception in the end zone in New Orleans 52-38 win over Detroit. The first injury report of the week came out yesterday and only two players from the Saints were on it, Terron Armstead and Willie Snead as both players continue to come back from preseason injuries.

The NBA Pelicans begin a new season tonight as they visit Memphis. New Orleans finished 10th in the rugged Western Conference last year, but the franchise hopes they have enough talent this season to earn a playoff spot.

Just two Saints players are on Wednesday’s injury report. Tackle Terron Armstead was limited today as he continues to recover from a shoulder injury and wide receiver Willie Snead, because of that nagging hamstring problem. There are 14 players on Green Bay’s injury report, including quarterback Aaron Rodgers who could be done for the season with a broken collarbone.

Based on a media poll, the expectations are low for the LSU men’s basketball team. The Tigers were picked to finish last in the 14-team league this season. Former North Caddo star and Texas A-and-M Forward Robert Williams was named co-SEC preseason player of the year.

UL Lafayette softball coach Michael Lotief has been placed on administrative leave. No reason was given from the university. But Lotief’s attorney says the action arises out of a passionate conversation about gender equity between Lotief and University personnel. The statement says the Lotiefs have spent their careers fighting for better opportunities for female athletes.

LSU and Ole Miss will meet for the 106th time when the two teams get together for a Saturday night kick-off in Oxford. The Tigers have won 11 of the last 15 against the Rebels dating back to 2002.
