Former New Orleans Saints and LSU standout Tracy Porter was arrested in Baton Rouge on domestic battery and drug charges. Cops say Porter got into a fight with his girlfriend, and allegedly grabbed her around the arms, neck and face on October 5th. In addition to the charges of battery of a dating partner, police say they found drugs for which Porter did not have a prescription.

Saints Coach Sean Payton calls the trade of running back Adrian Peterson to the Arizona Cardinals a “win-win” situation. Payton says the emergence of rookie running back Alvin Kamara made it difficult to get Peterson the number of snaps he needs to be successful…:

The LSU Tigers welcome 10th ranked Auburn into Death Valley on Saturday afternoon. Auburn is one of the top scoring teams in the SEC, averaging 36 points a contest. Meanwhile, LSU is averaging just 25 points a game. Quarterback Danny Etling says they scored just 17 against Florida and they’ll need to find the end zone a few more times this Saturday…

Three starters were not at practice for the Tigers yesterday. Left tackle K-J Malone, right tackle Toby Weathersby and defensive end Rashard Lawrence. They are considered questionable for Saturday’s game.

The Ragin Cajuns host Texas State tomorrow and Coach Mark Hudspeth says Andre Nunez will start at quarterback. Nunez has come off the bench the last two games and provided UL-Lafayette’s offense with a spark. Last Saturday, he threw for 213 yards and one touchdown in a win over Idaho.

The NFL Owners will meet next week to discuss a National Anthem policy. Commissioner Roger Goodell sent a memo to all 32 teams that said it’s time for the league to move past this controversy and he believes that players should stand during the national anthem. NFL analyst Mike Detillier says Goodell remained silent too long on this issue…

The NFL owners meetings will be next Tuesday and Wednesday in New York City.

ESPN’s Adam Schefter says the Saints will sign linebacker Gerald Hodges, who started 12 games for the 49ers last season. Hodges was released by the Bills in September. New Orleans needs depth at the linebacker position, because starting weakside linebacker Alex Anzalone had surgery on his shoulder.

Disappointed day for U-S Soccer fans as the men’s team was eliminated from 2018 World Cup competition after losing to Trinidad 2-1 yesterday.

Future Hall of Fame running back Adrian Peterson is no longer a Saint. New Orleans has traded the veteran to Arizona for a conditional draft pick. Peterson had trouble fitting in with the Saints as he only ran the ball 27 times for 81 yards, while the Cardinals have been looking for a running back since losing David Johnson to a wrist injury in the season opener. New Orleans is set to face the Lions at home this Sunday at noon.

The N-F-L has been more about the National Anthem than the game itself recently. Commissioner Roger Goodell sent a memo to all 32 teams, specifying that all players and coaches quote – “should stand for the National Anthem.” N-F-L analyst Mike Detillier says it’s sad team owners didn’t force the issue prior to Goodell’s memo…:

Goodell’s memo adds he hopes for a full and open discussion on the National Anthem issue when the league meets next week in New York.

After acquiring him as a free agent over the summer, the New Orleans Pelicans say veteran guard Rajon Rondo is expected to be sidelined his first 4-6 weeks after surgery Tuesday. He was injured in a preseason game on Friday. The Pels open the regular season a week from today in Memphis.

The Ragin’ Cajuns have made an official QB pick. For his first time, Andre Nunez gets the start beginning tomorrow night when UL-Lafayette takes on Texas State at Cajun Field.

The Saints have traded veteran running back Adrian Peterson to the Arizona Cardinals for an undisclosed draft pick in 2018. The 32-year-old Peterson had trouble getting carries with the Black and Gold and had just 81 yards on the ground during the first four games of the season. Arizona has been looking for a running back ever since David Johnson hurt his wrist in the season opener. NFL Analyst Mike Detellier says it looks like a good deal for both teams…

In the new Louisiana Sports Writers Association Prep Football Polls….Warren Easton is the new number one ranked team in Class 4A, followed by Benton, Karr, Plaquemine and St. Thomas More.

The Houston Astros are in a league championship series for the first time since 2005. Former LSU Tiger Alex Bregman hit a home run off lefty Chris Sale yesterday as Houston eliminated Boston 5-4. The Stros will play either the Yankees or Indians in the A-L-C-S.

Legendary LSU Quarterback Y-A Tittle has passed away at the age of 90. The LSU Hall of Famer died of natural causes. Tittle played for the Tigers during the mid 1940s and set five records, including passing yards in a career, touchdown passes and total offense. In the pros, Tittle guided the New York Giants to three consecutive title game appearances.

The Tigers have a big game coming up on Saturday as the Bayou Bengals host Auburn.

The Ragin Cajuns have a short week of prepation as they get ready for their next game on Thursday night against Texas State. UL Lafayette beat Idaho 21-16 last Saturday and Coach Mark Hudspeth says his defense came to play, after giving up 40 or more points in their four previous games…

The Saints rested yesterday while their next opponent, the Detroit Lions, lost a physical game to the Carolina Panthers 27-24. Lions QB Matthew Stafford got beat up in this one and finished with a cut on his left hand and tape arounnd his feet and ankles. Stafford has been sacked six teams in each of his last two games.

Former LSU Tiger Odell Beckham is done for the season after breaking his ankle in a loss to the Los Angeles Chargers. The Giants are also done for the season as they are 0-5 on the season.

Another former Tiger, Leonard Fournette rushed for 181 yards and two touchdowns as Jacksonville defeated a struggling Steelers team 31-9. Jacksonsville and Houston are tied for first in the NFC South, but the Texans are without star JJ Watt for the rest of the season, who suffered a leg fracture.

This past weekend, Grambling State beat Prairie View A-and-M for a fourth consecutive season, winning the contest 34-21. Grambling is ranked 19th in the latest FCS Coaches Poll. McNeese State is ranked 21st and Nicholls is ranked 23rd.

The win wasn’t enough to put the Tigers back into the Top 25, but it did push the Gators off the list. Alabama and Clemson still hold the top spots. LSU will host its first daytime home game of the season; as CBS announced the Tigers will once again be in front of a nationally televised audience 2:30pm for the second week in a row, to take on Auburn.

Former LSU wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr. with the New York Giants suffered a fractured left ankle during Sunday’s 27-22 loss to the Los Angeles Chargers. It is the same ankle that Beckham injured during the preseason.

Our top story this morning continues to be the potential impacts Louisiana could see as a result of Hurricane Nate, which is in the central Gulf of Mexico. It appears as though the state will avoid a direct hit, as forecasters indicate the system is expected to make landfall near Biloxi around 1am Sunday morning. Storm surge is the main threat along the southeastern coast starting at Morgan City.

Now in state sports news…LSU is set to take on 20th ranked Florida in the Swamp in Gainesville this afternoon at 2:30pm, and two Tiger standouts on both sides of the ball, running back Derrius Guice and defensive end Rashard Lawrence, are expected to return to the field. The program says The Bayou Bengals head into this game coming off a good week of practice, and one that saw the Tigers doing some soul-searching following the Homecoming loss to Troy last Saturday. The game will be televised by CBS.

Hurricane Nate means college football gets an early start this morning as many games were pushed back ahead of the storm. More on that, after this.

At 11 this morning, Nicholls will host Northwestern State.

Also in the Southland…McNeese is at Abilene Christian.

A couple more early starts…Southern hosts Alabama for homecoming at 1 PM and Tulane takes on Tulsa at Yulman Stadium at 11 AM.

Louisiana Tech and ULM both are on the road in conference games. Both north Louisiana schools are favorite to win. The Bulldogs are at UAB and the Warhawks are at Texas State after a 3-0 start in the Sun Belt.

In prep football Friday night, Benton hammered Minden 43-21 to remain undefeated. The Tigers, ranked third in Class 4A, take on North DeSoto next Thursday. Minden will face Woodlawn Shreveport on October 13th.

Ouachita Parish trumped Pineville 26-6. Pineville next takes on Natchitoches Central.

West Monroe keeps its perfect season alive with a win over Ruston, 28-14.

Ruston takes on Ouachita Parish Friday, while West Monroe squares off against Alexandria.

Richwood slid past Union Parish 14-6. The win lifted Richwood to 4-2. The defeat dropped Union Parish’s record to 4-2.
