For the third time this year, LSU linebacker Devin White has been named the SEC Defensive Player of the Week — this time for his performance against the Razorbacks in which he finished the game with 14 tackles, half a tackle for loss and a quarterback hurry. He leads the SEC in total tackles with 103.

Saints coach Sean Payton confirmed Daniel Lasco has a bulging disc. While it will force the running back to finish the season on injured reserve, the injury isn’t career-threatening. Lasco left Sunday’s 47-10 rout of Buffalo in an ambulance during the second quarter in what the Saints announced was a spinal injury.

The New Orleans Pelicans held on last night to pull off a 106-105 victory over the Atlanta Hawks at the Smoothie King Center. The win moves the Pels record to 8-6 on the season and they now have victories in five of their last 6.

LSU men’s basketball coach Will Wade has added yet another star to his 2018 recruiting class. Nazreon Reid, a 5-star power forward from New Jersey, is ranked No. 15 overall by Scout, and No. 17 by 247Sports. Reid joins Scotlandville’s Javonte Smart and Gainesville, Florida’s Darius Days.

On Wade’s team this year, LSU guard Tremont Waters has been named the SEC Freshman of the Week after his performance against Alcorn State.

For years it’s been quarterback Drew Brees leading the Saints offense, now it’s the ground game. Mark Ingram had three touchdowns and 121 yards rushing in yesterday’s 47-10 thumping of the Buffalo Bills. Rookie Alvin Kamara also broke the century mark as he rushed for 106 yards and a touchdown. Tonight at the Smoothie King Center, the Pelicans host the Altanta Hawks, who have the worst record in the NBA at 2-and-11.

LSU football on some big pass plays to beat Arkansas 33-10 on Saturday. Quarterback Danny Etling threw for 217 yards and two touchdowns. Both of the TD passes went DJ Chark. The Alexandria native says their preparation going into the game paid off…

LSU basketball has received a signed national letter of intent from five star-forward Naz Reid of New Jersey. He’s listed as the number three power forward in the Class of 2018. The Tigers 2018 recruiting class already includes two four-star recruits, Javonte Smart of Baton Rouge and Dairus Days of Florida.

The SEC announced today that LSU’s home finale against Texas A-and-M on November 25th will kick-off at 6:30 PM.

McNeese State moved to 6-2 in the Southland as the Cowboys defeated Northwestern State 44-24. Cowboys quarterback James Tabary threw three touchdown passes in the win and had 285 yards pass on the night. McNeese is at Lamar this Saturday.

Nicholls will visit Southeastern Louisiana on Thursday night. The Colonels beat Stephen F Austin 34-14 last Saturday. Freshman Tahj Smith had 177 yards rushing on 23 carries as the Colonels had 418 yards on the ground. Nicholls defensive lineman Kenny Dotson had 3.5 sacks.

Also in Southland action, McNeese rolled over Northwestern State in Lake Charles, 44-24.

Louisiana Tech fell to Florida Atlantic, 48-23, and the Bulldogs now fall to 4-6 on the season.

The New Orleans Pelicans, winners of four of their last five games to improve to 7-6, head into tonight’s game against the Atlanta Hawks who are 2-11.

The biggest upset in high school football last night…in 3A, 30th seeded Westlake beat Jena 27-20. Westlake will play Northwest who beat Avoyelles 40-28.

Top seed in class 5A West Monroe topped the Central Wildcats 51-15.

More prep scores from last night — In 3A, top seeded Sterlington pounded Baker 63-30.

Wossman fell to Iowa, 39-8. In 2A Welsh beat Springfield 55-7.

Last night was the open of the college basketball season. The Will Wade era at LSU got off to a winning start as the Tigers beat Alcorn State, 99-59. Louisiana Tech had no trouble against Texas Tyler, The Bulldogs winning 112-71. UL-Lafayette fell to Ole Miss 94-76. ULM fell to TCU, 83-73

LSU is a 17-point favorite heading into tomorrow’s 11 AM kickoff against Arkansas. The Tigers are 6-3 on the season and coming off a two touchdown loss to Alabama, while Arkansas is just 1-and-4 in the SEC and barely beat Coastal Carolina last weekend.

The high school football playoffs start tonight. The top seed in Class 5A, West Monroe hosts the Central Wildcats. In Three-A, top seeded Sterlington hosts Baker. Third-seeded Jena will take on Westlake, while second seeded Wossman faces Iowa. In Two-A, Welsh is the umber one-seed and they’ll host Springfield.

The Pelicans got a season-high 34 points from Jrue Holiday last night, but it wasn’t enough as New Orleans lost to Toronto 122-118. The Pels host the Clippers tomorrow.

Saints cornerback Delvin Breaux is not expected to play this season. Head Coach Sean Payton said today he’ll remain on injured reserve after he suffered a setback as he tries to come back from a fractured fibula that he sustained in August. Breaux was the Saints top cornerback in 2015, but the pass defense has improved without him.

This Sunday, New Orleans is at Buffalo. On defense, the Bills have forced 17 turnovers, which is the second best mark in the NFL. Former LSU cornerback Tre’Davious White has an interception and two fumble recoveries and is one of the game’s best rookies. Payton says he’s impressed by what he’s seen from White…

Saints Head Coach Sean Payton said today that cornerback Delvin Breaux will remain on injured reserve and will not play in 2017. Breaux suffered a setback in his attempt to return from surgery to repair a fracture fibula. New Orleans has not really missed Breaux. The team ranks 12th in the NFL in pass defense as young starters Marshon Lattimore and Ken Crawley have played well.

The Pelcians wrap up a four-game road trip tonight in Toronto. New Orleans will play its first game with a winning record since April 2015. The Pels are 6-and-5, while the Raptors are 6-and-4. New Orleans has played well on the road this season as they have a 5-and-2 record.

The college basketball season starts tomorrow. Head Coach Will Wade knows freshman Tremont Walters, sophomore Skylar Mays and senior Duop Reath will start. He’s not sure who will will start at the other two positions.

Arkansas head coach Bret Bielema (Biel-La-Ma) has yet to name a starting quarterback for Saturday’s game against LSU. It will be either former Tuerlings Catholic standout Cole Kelley or Austin Allen. A Natchitoches Central Coach has been issued a summons on simple battery charges for allegedly being too rough with a player. They say the 17-year-old player reported Coach John Daughtery grabbed his helmet, pulled it off and then pulled him into a locker room by his jersey.
