If LSU wins tonight at Florida and Saturday at home against Vanderbilt, the Tigers will clinch at least a share of the SEC Title.

Louisiana Tech completes its regular season tonight at Florida Atlantic. The Bulldogs are looking to complete league play with a nine and nine record and Tech is looking for its first road win since December 15th.

Northwestern State scored five runs in the ninth inning to beat Louisiana Tech eight to four in Ruston on Tuesday. Hilton Brown had a tie-breaking, two run double. Southeastern Louisiana clobbered ULM 10-3 as the Lions have won back-to-back games for the first time this season. The same two teams will play again today in Hammond at 4 PM.

The Ragin Cajuns scored two runs in the eighth inning to beat Nicholls three to one. Sebastian Toro drove in the two runs in the eighth inning with a single.

Tonight, 9th ranked LSU hosts Holy Cross. The Tigers will look to snap a three-game losing streak. They walked 24 hitters over the weekend in Texas. Ma’Khail Hilliard starts on the mound. First pitch is at 6:30.

In Southland Conference hoops…McNeese hosts Texas A-and-M Corpus Christi. The Pokes must win their final two games to have a chance at making the Southland Tournament. Northwestern State is at Nicholls in a must win situation for both teams. UNO is at Southeastern, if the Lions win they’ll clinch a bye in next week’s Southland Conference Tourney in Katy.

There is some college baseball to be played on this chilly Fat Tuesday. Louisiana Tech hosts Northwestern State. The game was moved up to four PM, because of the cold. ULM is down at Southeastern Louisiana and Nicholls hosts the Ragin Cajuns. UL-Lafayette is off to a 3-and-7 start.

The 9 ranked LSU baseball team hosts Holy Cross tomorrow after getting swept this past weekend in Texas. Coach Paul Mainieri says were some positives from the weekend. He says getting sophomore right-hander Ma’Khail Hilliard back on the mound for the first time this season, after experiencing shoulder soreness was a plus…

The 10th ranked LSU basketball team flew to Gainesville today where they’ll play the Florida Gators tomorrow night. There are two regular season games left and the Tigers are tied with Tennessee for first place. The Vols are in action tonight as they will host Mississippi State.

The Pelicans went 3-and-1 on their Mardi Gras road trip. Last night, New Orleans silenced Utah 115 to 112 as they rallied back from a 17 point deficit. Julius Randle and Jrue Holiday each scored 30 points. The same two teams will play again tomorrow night, but this time in New Orleans.

The Pelicans won their third straight last night and for the third straight game they fell behind by double digits, only to come back to win. Last night, New Orleans trailed Utah by 17 points but rallied to beat the Jazz 115 to 112. Jrue Holiday and Julius Randle each had 30 points for the Pels, while Jazz star Donovan Mitchell had just 19 points. The two teams will play again in New Orleans on Wednesday.

The LSU baseball team went from being ranked number one or two to not even in the top ten in a couple of the major college baseball polls following their three losses in Texas. Coach Paul Mainieri says it was a bad weekend…

To make matters worse, LSU didn’t get back to Baton Rouge until 4:45 in the morning on Monday, because their flight was cancelled and they had to take a seven-hour bus ride home.

LSU basketball is ranked number 10 in both the A-P and coaches poll. It’s the Tigers first top ten ranking since December of 2006. LSU visits Florida tomorrow. Projected brackets have LSU as either a number two or three seed.

LSU point guard Tremont Waters is one of five finalists for the Bob Cousy Point Guard of the Year Award. Coach Will Wade believes Waters is the favorite to win…

Grambling improved to 8-8 in the SWAC with a 77-75 win over Mississippi Valley State. Dallas Polk-Hilliard had a career-high 26 points.

Former LSU cornerback Greedy Williams ran a 4.37 at the NFL combine, which is tied for the second fastest time among defensive backs.

One LSU team moved into the Top 10 rankings, another fell out. The Fighting Tigers basketball team is ranked 10th in the A-P poll and they are ranked in the top 10 for the first time since December 2006. The Bayou Bengals are tied with Tennessee for first place in the SEC with two regular season games left. LSU is at Florida on Wednesday and will host Vanderbilt on Saturday.

After getting swept by Texas, the LSU baseball team fell out of the top 10. D-1 Baseball has the Tigers ranked 13th, Baseball America ranks them 10th and Perfect game has the Bayou Bengals ranked 14th. LSU went into Austin ranked number one or two in all of the major polls.

And Coach Paul Mainieri’s team didn’t get back into Baton Rouge until 4:45 this morning, because their flight was cancelled and it took a seven-hour bus ride to get back home. The Tigers host Holy Cross on Wednesday and then California for the final non-conference weekend series.

Former LSU cornerback Greedy Williams ran a 4.37 in the 40-yard dash at the NFL combine today. It’s one of the fastest times for the four-day event. Williams did not finish all of the drills, because of minor cramping in both calves. Former LSU linebacker Devin White improved his draft stock by running a 4.42.

ULM’s 2019 football schedule shows the Warhawks opening the season against Grambling State on Thursday, August 29th. But Grambling President Rick Gallot told the News-Star that no one from Louisiana-Monroe told them that the game had been moved from Saturday to Thursday and Grambling still plans on playing the game on Saturday, August 31st.

The Grambling basketball team is in action tonight against Mississippi Valley.

The Pelicans conclude a four game road trip tonight in Utah. It’s been a good trip for the Pels, who have wins against the Suns and Nuggets, after losing to the Lakers to open the trip. Utah has won five straight, eight of their last nine. Tip off is just after 8 PM.

The number one ranked LSU baseball team was served some humble pie in Austin over the weekend as they were swept by Texas. The Longhorns completed the sweep by scoring three runs in the ninth inning to beat the Tigers seven to six. Todd Peterson blew the save and suffered the loss. He hit the first batter he faced in the ninth, even though it didn’t look like he hit the Longhorn hitter and then LSU failed to turn a game ending double play.

McNeese had a walk-off win over Nicholls yesterday as the Cowboys won five to four in ten innings. Nate Fisbeck had a huge game for the Pokes as he went three for five with a home run and four RBIs. Also yesterday, Holy Cross defeated Nicholls eight to six.

In college hoops, F-I-U downed Louisiana Tech 83-76, Appalachian State knocked off the Ragin Cajuns 90-80 and Temple downed Tulane 80-69.

The Pelicans are in Utah tonight. New Orleans has won two in a row after upsetting Denver on Saturday.

Former LSU star linebacker Devin White ran an impressive 4.42 in the 40-yard dash at the NFL combine yesterday. That time could result in the Cotton Valley native being selected in the Top 10 in next month’s NFL draft. Here’s what White said about his speed…

The top ranked LSU baseball team suffered its first loss of the season last night as 18th ranked Texas handed it to the Tigers 8-1. The Bayou Bengals scored their lone run in the first inning, but only had four hits on the night. Zack Hess suffered the loss as he gave up three runs in four innings, while Chase Costello gave up another three runs in two innings. Game two is today at 3:30.

Louisiana Tech is 7-and-2 on the year after a 9-4 win over Arkansas State. Senior catcher Chris Clayton drove in a career-high four runs. Maryland doubled up the Ragin Cajuns four to two, Tennessee downed ULM seven to two, Troy topped Southeastern Louisiana five to two, McNeese held on to beat Nicholls seven to six and Northwestern State defeated Little rock 1-0.

In the NBA, the Pelicans defeated the Pheonix Suns 130-116. Jrue Holiday had 21 points and nine assists. New Orleans is at Denver tonight.

The 13th ranked LSU basketball team begins a two-game road trip in Tuscaloosa today for an 11 aM tip off at Alabama. There are three regular season games left and the Tigers are in a three-way tie for first place with Kentucky and Tennessee. The Wildcats and Volunteers will play each other later today.

Elsewhere, ULM hosts Coastal Carolina. The Warhawks are 12-and-1 at home this season.

There are seven Southland teams battling for the final three spots in the Southland Conference. Northwestern State is one of those teams. The Demons are at Southeastern Louisiana today. McNeese and Nicholls are also trying to get in the tournament. The Colonels host UNO, while the Cowboys visit Houston Baptist.

Also today, Grambling is at Arkansas Pine-Bluff.

At the girls state basketball tournament, Lafayette Christian won its third straight state title. Warren Easton won its second straight championship with a 58-49 win over Benton. Plainview won its second straight title and Elton won its first state championship since 1975. Six more champions will be crowned today in Alexandria.

In college hoops last night, ULM and the Ragin Cajuns both won. The Warhawks defeated Appalachian State 81-75 as Daishon Smith had 26 points. JaKeenan Gant poured in 29 points as UL-Lafayette defeated Coastal Carolina 83-70. Both teams are 8-7 in league play. La tech dropped its first home game, falling to Marshall 90-79.

The Pelicans have reportedly signed Euroleague shooting guard Dairis Bertans to a two-year contract. Bertans shot nearly 50-percent from three-point territory for a team in Italy. To make room for Bertans on the roster, New Orleans has waived Tim Frazier. The Pels are in Phoenix tomorrow night.

Former LSU pitcher Aaron Nola should be a happy man. That’s because his Phillies have signed Bryce Harper to a 13-year, 330 million dollar contract.

Jason Whitten is leaving the Monday night football broadcast booth and returning to the football field. Whitten is ending his retirment so that he can play his 16th season with the Cowboys.

At the girls state basketball championships, North Caddo advanced to the Class Two-A Championship game with a 48-47 win over Red River yesterday. They’ll face Mansfield, who knocked off Rayville 57-49.

Six state champions will be crowned today and six more tomorrow. All of the games will be shown live on C-S-T. The final game tonight is the Class 4A championship game between Benton and Warren Easton.

The top ranked LSU baseball team improved to 8-0 on the season with an easy 17-4 win over the Southern Jaguars. Senior right fielder Antoine Duplantis continued his early season tear by going 4-for-5 with 5 runs batted in. But not all of the news is good for the Purple and Gold. Coach Paul Mainieri say he’s 98-percent sure Gavin Dugas will need surgery to repair a torn ligament in his thumb. Dugas could miss the next two months.

Also last night, ninth ranked Mississippi State blanked Southeastern Louisiana 12-0, ending the Lions six-game winning streak in the series history between the two teams.

The Pelicans began their four-game Mardi Gras road trip with a 125-119 loss to the Los Angeles Lakers. Anthony Davis had 22 points in 21 minutes. Julius Randle had 35 points against his old team. But the Lakers prevailed as LeBron James had 33 points and 10 assists.

Sam Houston State won an outright Southland Conference regular season championship in New Orleans last night as the Bearkats defeated the Privateers 71-60. U-N-O falls to third place in the league standings.

Northwestern State is one of several teams fighting to get in the Southland Tournament. The Demons helped their chances with a 68-60 win over U-I-W. Ishmael Lane led the way with 20 points.
McNeese kept their Southland Conference Tournament hopes alive with an 84-75 victory over Nicholls in Thibodaux. Sha’Markus Kennedy had 23 of his 27 points in the second half. Both the Cowboys and Colonels are 5-and-10 in league play.

Tennessee topped Ole Miss 73 to 71 as the Volunteers improved to 13-2 in the SEC. Tennessee, Kentucky and LSU are tied for first place with three conference games left. The Vols host the Wildcats on Saturday, while the Tigers are at Alabama.

In action tonight, the Cajuns host Coastal Carolina, Appalachian STate is at ULM and Louisiana Tech takes on Marshall.

The Aggies shot just 35-percent from the field, their lowest total of the season. Naz Reid led the way with 18 points and 11 rebounds.

LSU improves to 13-and-2 in the SEC. Kentucky also won last night, beating Arkansas 70-66. So the Wildcats improve to 13-and-2 in league play as well. Tonight, seventh ranked Tennessee is at Ole Miss. LSU’s next game is Saturday at Alabama.

The NFL competition committee met in Indianapolis but came away from that meeting with no consensus on changes to instant replay, despite the controversial no call in the NFC Title game. New York Giants owner John Mara, a member of the competition committee, told reporters he doesn’t sense a lot of support to use replay to call penalties. Expect more discussion next month when all of the owners gather in Pheonix.

In college baseball last night, Louisiana Tech outlasted Little Rock five to three in 12 innings. A couple of throwing errors led to the winning runs crossing the plate.

Tulane topped Nicholls seven to four, Northwestern State blanked ULM 15-0. McNeese downed Alcorn State eight to one and UNO upset 23rd ranked Southern Miss two to one as the Privateers improve to 6-and-1.

Tonight, top ranked LSU is scheduled to host Southern. The Tigers scheduled game last night against South Alabama was postponed until April 3rd. Eric Walker is scheduled to start on the mound for LSU.
