The former LSU football coach won 75-percent of his games and the 2003 national championship during five seasons in Baton Rouge. After three games, LSU QB Joe Burrow is in contention to win the Heisman. USA Today conducted a poll of Heisman voters and Burrow finished third behind Oklahoma QB Jalen Hurts, who finished first and Alabama’s Tua Tagovailoa who finished second.

The Saints are in Seattle for their off day and they’ll get back to work tomorrow for Sunday’s game against the Seahawks. Defensive End Cam Jordan had his first fumble recovery for a touchdown in the NFL taken away because the officials erroneously blew the whistle. Jordan says the refs screwed up again, but there are other reasons why they lost in L-A….

The Saints have placed linebacker Alex Anzalone on injured reserve. He missed most of the preseason with a shoulder injury and only played in 18 snaps in the loss to the Rams.

In other NFL news, Panthers quarterback Cam Newton has re-injured his foot and was held out of practice today. Carolina is at Arizona this Sunday. And the New York Giants announce rookie Daniel Jones will start at quarterback over New Orleans native Eli Manning.

Brees is seeking a second opinion before a plan is put in place for treating the injury to his throwing hand.

Middle linebacker Alex Anzalone has been placed on injured reserve. There are no details on his injury. He missed most of preseason camp with a shoulder injury and played just 18 snaps versus the Rams.

LSU heads into week four of the college football season ranked third in the nation in scoring, averaging 55 points a game. But Tigers Coach Ed Orgeron says the players on offense are not satisfied with their results…

Last night, Cleveland defeated the New York Jets 23-3 as former LSU Tiger Odell Beckham Junior the longest touchdown catch of his career, as he went 89 yards.

Multiple reports say Saints quarterback Drew Brees will miss at least the next six weeks as he needs surgery to repair his injured throwing hand. The league’s highest-paid backup quarterback Teddy Bridgewater replaces Brees and NFL analyst Mike Detillier expects the Saints will also use Taysom Hill at Q-B too

There’s been no statement from the league today after taking away Cam Jordan’s fumble for a touchdown when the game was tied at three.

Injuries are mounting for LSU on defense. Coach Ed Orgeron said today that safety Todd Harris will miss the rest of the season after suffering a knee injury in the lopsided win over Northwestern State. Coach “O” also said defensive ends Rashard Lawrence and Glen Logan will miss a second straight week and will not play Saturday at Vanderbilt. Kick-off is at 11.

LSU is not the only one playing its conference opener this week. Tulane will host Houston on Thursday in a game that will be televised by ESPN. Louisiana Tech kicks off Conference USA action by hosting F-I-U on the C-B-S Sports Network, in a game that will take place on Friday.

League play begins this week in the Southland Conference. Nicholls will visit Stephen F Austin. The Colonels are ranked 11th in the country after their come from behind win over Prairie View. Southeastern Louisiana is ranked 22nd after losing by just 11 points to Ole Miss. The Lions host Lamar at 7 PM.

LSU Quarterback Joe Burrow had another big night in the Tigers 65-14 win over Northwestern State. Burrow threw for 373 yards and two touchdowns and then gave way to Myles Brennan early in the third quarter. The Tigers have been known for their running game, but Burrow says things are different now…

LSU will begin SEC play on Saturday when they visit Vanderbilt at 11:00. The Commodores have struggled to defend the pass. They’ve given up 436 yards passing a game and 510 yards of total offense. So far Vandy has lost to Georgia and Purdue and they are allowing 36 points a game.

Also this weekend, Tulane host Houston for a Thursday night ESPN game. Louisiana Tech will host F-I-U on Friday for its Conference USA opener. ULM heads up to Iowa State, while the Ragin Cajuns are at Ohio. In the Southland, Southeastern Louisiana will host Lamar, while Grambling begins league play as they face Alabama State.

The Saints suffer a frustrating defeat to the Rams as another officiating call goes against them, plus they lose quarterback Drew Brees to a thumb injury in a 27-9 loss. The game was tied at three in the second quarter, when it looked like the Saints Cam Jordan returned a fumble for a touchdown, but the refs blew the play dead because they thought it was an incomplete pass. Coach Sean Payton is not using that call as an excuse on why they lost the game

Fourth-ranked LSU started slowly but eventually rolled to a 65-14 win over Northwestern State on Saturday night. The defense allowed the Demons to score two touchdowns in the first half and it took a while before the offense got into a rhythm. Coach Ed Orgeron says there was no yelling on the sideline when LSU had a three-point lead late in the second quarter…

LSU did not allow any points in the second half and the offense ended up producing 610 yards.

The Ragin Cajuns scored a modern-era record 77 points in a 77-6 win over Texas Southern. The 71 points are the largest margin of victory in school history.

Tulane had its largest margin of victory since 1998 as it defeated Missouri State 58-6. Also, Louisiana Tech went to Bowling Green and got a 35-7 win.

The Saints and Rams are two of the favorites to reach the Super Bowl, so it’s a big early-season clash when they meet Sunday in Los Angeles. Quarterback Drew Brees says he’s looking forward to facing L-A for the fourth time in three years…

Saints offensive tackle Ryan Ramczyk was limited at practice yesterday, while wide receiver Ted Ginn Junior practiced without restrictions.

In the NFL last night, Tampa Bay beat Carolina 20-14, ending a seven-game road losing streak for the Bucs. Tampa Bay linebacker and former LSU star Devin White injured his knee in the game, but Coach Bruce Arians doesn’t believe its serious.

Another big passing game could come on Saturday night when the fourth-ranked Tigers host Northwestern State. The Demons are off to an 0-2 start. Coach Ed Orgeron says pass rusher K’Lavon Chaisson is very doubtful to play on Saturday. Chaisson has not practiced this week after suffering an injury in the win over Texas. Orgeron says to look for sophomore linebacker Damone Clark to get some time rushing the passer off the edge.

In other college football action on Saturday, the Ragin Cajuns host Texas Southern. Tulane takes on Missouri State at Yulman Stadium. Louisiana Tech is at Bowling Green. In the season-opening win over Houston, they gave up 180 yards on the ground. Meanwhile, Saints running back Alvin Kamara got to touch the ball 20 times, 13 rushes and seven receptions. Coach Sean Payton says it will vary on how much Kamara will see the ball week-to-week…

La Tech ranks 111th in the country in total defense. Bowling Green beat Morgan State 46-3 in its season opener but lost 52-to-nothing last week to Bowling Green.

The Cajuns rank 103rd in total defense and will host Texas Southern Saturday. It’s only the fourth time UL-Lafayette has played a SWAC school. The Tigers are 0-and-2 on the season and finished with a two and nine record the last two seasons. Kick-off is at 6:30.
