The Eastbank Little League team from River Ridge received a hero’s welcome as they returned to Louisiana yesterday after winning the Little League World Series. A parade in their honor is scheduled for Saturday.

LSU Football Coach Ed Orgeron has talked all offseason about a defensive line that will look to attack more, but in the season opener against Georgia Southern on Saturday, Coach O says his guys will also have to be disciplined against the Eagles triple-option offense…

Orgeron’s son, Cody Orgeron, will get the start at quarterback on Saturday for the McNeese Cowboys, who host the Southern Jaguars. Cody Orgeron started three games last year and threw for 406 yards and two touchdowns, but he also tossed three interceptions.

Louisiana Tech will be at 10th ranked Texas. The Bulldogs return six starters on offense. That includes 22-year-old quarterback J’Mar Smith. Texas is about a three-touchdown favorite on Saturday.

A welcome home celebration will take place at 4 PM today outside of the Shrine on Airline in Metairie. President Donald Trump congratulated Eastbank on Twitter and extended an invitation for them to visit the White House.

Mississippi State quarterback Keytaon Thompson has reportedly entered the NCAA Transfer Portal. Thompson battled Penn State grad transfer Tommy Stevens for starting Q-B, but lost out to Stevens. Thompson started two games in Starkville after leading Landry-Walker to a Class 5A championship in 2015.

The Saints have one more preseason game on Thursday at home against the Miami Dolphins. The starters are not expected to play, which means Quarterback Drew Brees will have only played in one series in the preseason. It ended with a touchdown against the Jets last weekend. Coach Sean Payton is not concerned that Brees only has eight snaps in game action during the exhibiton schedule…

The Saints have one more preseason game to play before they start the regular season. They ran their preseason record to 2-and-1 on Saturday with a 28-13 win over the New York Jets. Drew Brees threw a 19-yard touchdown pass to Michael Thomas and Deonte Harris returned a punt 78-yards for a touchdown. The defense held the Jets to 300 total yards. It’s game week for Louisiana college football teams. The LSU Tigers will host Georgia Southern for the first time on the gridiron. Louisiana Tech opens the season in Austin, where they’ll take on the Texas Longhorns. Also, the Ragin Cajuns face Mississippi State in the Superdome and ULM will take on Grambling State at Malone Stadium.

The Saints will face the New York Jets Saturday night in Met Life Stadium. The starters are expected to play for New Orleans, including quarterback Drew Brees, who didn’t play in the first two preseason games. A big college football game takes place on Saturday in Orlando at Camping World Stadium as 8th ranked Florida faces Miami. Also on Saturday, Arizona is at Hawaii for a game on the C-B-S Sports Network.

Mississippi State will start Penn State grad transfer Tommy Stevens at quarterback in its season opener against U-L Lafayette on August 31st. Stevens beat out former Landry-Walker star Keytoan Thompson.

During the day on Saturday Louisiana will face Hawaii in the U-S Finals of the Little League World Series. The team from River Ridge lost to Hawaii in its first game in Williamsport, Pennsylvania, but since then the squad from suburban New Orleans has been untouchable. First pitch Saturday is at 2:30.

The Saints wrapped up training camp yesterday and later today they’ll fly to New York to face the Jets in the third preseason game of the year. Quarterback Drew Brees is expected to see his only game action of the preseason. Brees says he has no problem with only playing in one preseason game…

In preseason action, Carolina Quarterback Cam Newton sprained his ankle in last night’s 10-3 loss to the Patriots. And former LSU star Derrius Guice rushed for 44 yards in the Redskins 19-7 win over the Dirty Birds.

Fall camp is over for the LSU Tigers. It was a quiet camp for the Bayou Bengals as the biggest noise came when the school opened the new football operations center and the numerous minor injuries that occurred with several players. Only one major injury and that was to offensive lineman Kardell Thomas, who could miss the season with an ankle injury.

Mississippi State head coach Joe Moorhead has named Penn State graduate transfer Jeremy Stevens as his starting quarterback. Stevens beat out former Landry-Walker star Keytaon Thompson. The Bulldogs open the season against the Ragin Cajuns in the Superdome next Saturday.

The Eastbank Little League team from River Ridge is headed to the U-S Finals of the Little League World Series after a dominating 10-0 performance over Virginia. Reece Roussel had a huge game, going four-for-four with three doubles and a grand slam that broke the game open. The team from Louisiana will play Hawaii in the U-S Final on Saturday. Hawaii beat Louisiana to open the Little League World Series.

Preseason game number three is Saturday for the Saints as they will visit the New York Jets. Coach Sean Payton says Drew Brees will play, but it has not been determined how many snaps he’ll see. No Ted Ginn Junior at practice yesterday, linebackers Alex Anzalone and Craig Robertson were also out. New Orleans has signed veteran linebacker Will Compton.

LSU men’s basketball completed its four game exhibition tour of Spaing by beating F-C Barcelona Sliver 101-77 yesterday. The Tigers had six players in double digits led by Darius Days who had 15 points.

Last season, Justin Jefferson was LSU’s leading receiver with 54 catches. Stephen Sullivan and Ja’Marr Chase were second on the team in receptions, each had 23. Tigers Quarterback Joe Burrow says they targeted Jefferson, because he was their best receiver last season, but it’s different this season…

Auburn has named true freshman Bo Nix as its starting quarterback for the season opener against Oregon. He was the nation’s top dual-threat quarterback in the 2019 recruiting class-leading Pinson Valley High to back-to-back Class 6A titles in Alabama.

The Saints have signed versatile linebacker Will Compton. He appeared in 12 games for the Titans last season and spent five seasons with the Washington Redskins. He can play on special teams as well. Special teams captain and linebacker Craig Robertson suffered an injury on Sunday. New Orleans next preseason game is Saturday against the New York Jets. Coach Sean Payton said today he expects quarterback Drew Brees will play, but not sure how much.

The LSU men’s basketball team completed its four-game tour of Spain today with a 101-77 victory F-C Barcelona. The Tigers went 3-and-1 on the international trip. In today’s game, Darius Days was the leading scorer with 15 points and Charles Manning Junior had 14, so did Trendon Watford and Skylar Mays.

LSU players have returned from Summer League action, Daniel Cabrera was named to the Cape Cod League All-Star Team, freshman infielder Cade Doughty hit .346 with five homers and 23 RBIs. C-J Willis from Ruston hit .362 in 24 games and had two homers and 13 RBIS and Sophomore right-hander Rye Guner struck out 23 in 16.1 innings.

LSU continues to nurse some injuries. Defensive linemen Tyler Shelvin and Breiden Fehoko were absent from practice yesterday. Tight end Stephen Sullivan was also a no-show, which gave Thaddeus Moss a chance to run with the first team. On the offensive line, guard Chasen Hines practiced for a second straight day and cornerback Kristian Fulton was a full participant.

Taysom Hill’s performance in Sunday’s preseason victory over the Chargers has some Saints fans wondering if Hill should be Drew Brees primary back-up. Second string Q-B Teddy Bridgewater didn’t have a good performance last Sunday, but played well in the preseason opener. Coach Sean Payton says both guys are getting better…

The Eastbank Little League team from River Ridge defeated a team from Minnesota 10-0 last night in the Little League World Series. There next game is tomorrow morning.

The Seattle Mariners have called up Jake Fraley to the big leagues. The former second-round pick hit 19 home runs and drove in 80 runs between Double-A and Triple-A this season.
On paper it appears LSU is deep at wide receiver. Justin Jefferson returns as the leading receiver. Sophomores Ja’Marr Chase and Terrace Marshall are expected to have more of an impact. Freshman Trey Palmer is fast and Jefferson says freshman Devonta Lee and Racey McMath have also been making plays during preseason camp…

Sophomore guard Chasen Hines was back at practice yesterday after missing five straight practices with an undisclosed injury. Hines is battling with Senior Adrian Magee for a starting spot at left guard.

Auburn Coach Guz Malzahn has named Bo Nix as the Tigers starting quarterback. Nix will be the first true freshman to open the season as the Tigers starting quarterback since 1946.

Louisiana Tech and Tulsa have agreed to play each other in football in 2024 and 2025. The first game will be in Ruston.
