UL-Lafayette has announced its 2019 Athletic Hall of Fame class, it’s highlighted by former football player Ike Taylor, who won two Super Bowls with Pittsburgh.

The Saints and Rams are two of the favorites to reach the Super Bowl, so it’s a big early-season clash when they meet Sunday in Los Angeles. Quarterback Drew Brees says he’s looking forward to facing L-A for the fourth time in three years…

Saints offensive tackle Ryan Ramczyk was limited at practice yesterday, while wide receiver Ted Ginn Junior practiced without restrictions.

In the NFL last night, Tampa Bay beat Carolina 20-14, ending a seven-game road losing streak for the Bucs. Tampa Bay linebacker and former LSU star Devin White injured his knee in the game, but Coach Bruce Arians doesn’t believe its serious.

After two games, LSU ranks fifth in the nation in passing offense, 411 yards a contest through the air. Another big passing game could come on Saturday night when the fourth-ranked Tigers host Northwestern State. The Demons are off to an 0-2 start. Coach Ed Orgeron says pass rusher K’Lavon Chaisson is very doubtful to play on Saturday. Chaisson has not practiced this week after suffering an injury in the win over Texas. Orgeron says to look for sophomore linebacker Damone Clark to get some time rushing the passer off the edge.

In other college football action on Saturday, the Ragin Cajuns host Texas Southern. Tulane takes on Missouri State at Yulman Stadium. Louisiana Tech is at Bowling Green. Southeastern Louisiana visits Ole Miss, Nicholls travels to Prairie View A-and-M, while McNeese hosts Alcorn State and Southern hosts NAIA school Edward Waters.

The Saints continue preparations for Sunday’s rematch of last season’s NFC title game versus the Rams. New Orleans defense will have to do better against run this week. In the season-opening win over Houston, they gave up 180 yards on the ground. Meanwhile, Saints running back Alvin Kamara got to touch the ball 20 times, 13 rushes and seven receptions. Coach Sean Payton says it will vary on how much Kamara will see the ball week-to-week…

Former LSU running back Derius Guice is having a tough start to his NFL career. He missed all of last season, with a torn ACL and today he reportedly had surgery in Florida to trim a torn meniscus, which would sideline him for six to eight weeks.

This summer, LSU had their receivers catch 10-thousand passes and used special goggles to study their ocular dominance. La Tech ranks 111th in the country in total defense. Bowling Green beat Morgan State 46-3 in its season opener but lost 52-to-nothing last week to Bowling Green.

The Cajuns rank 103rd in total defense and will host Texas Southern Saturday. It’s only the fourth time UL-Lafayette has played a SWAC school. The Tigers are 0-and-2 on the season and finished with a two and nine record the last two seasons. Kick-off is at 6:30.

Burrow’s odds rose from 200 to 1 to five to one with some oddsmakers after dissecting Texas. USA Today Network LSU beat reporter Glenn Guilbeau, who also has a vote for the Heisman, says Burrow has a real shot.

Heisman voter Glen Guilbeau, who covers LSU for the USA Today Network, says the last LSU Heisman contender was Leonard Fournette, until he and the Tigers had a poor game against Alabama in 2015. Guilbeau says a great performance against the Crimson Tide later this season would help ensure that Burrow is a finalist…

Patriots wide receiver Antonio Bryant’s former trainer has filed a lawsuit against the NFL star claiming he sexually assaulted her on three different occasions during a two year period. The accuser is Britney Taylor, who competed on the LSU gymnastics team 2012 and 2013. Brown denies the allegations.

The Saints get back to practice today as they will head out west to face the defending NFC champion L-A Rams on Sunday. Los Angeles defeated Carolina 30-27 on the road in the season opener, despite Rams quarterback Jared Goff not having a strong game. He only threw for 186 yards and a touchdown. Running back Todd Gurley rushed for 97 yards. Kick-off on Sunday is at 3:25.

Burrow threw for 471 yards and four touchdowns and the senior Q-B is now getting consideration for the Heisman. Heisman voter and LSU beat reporter for the USA Today Network, Glen Guilbeau, says Burrow is among the second tier of candidates…

Alabama’s Tua Tagovailoa has the best odds to win the Heisman, three to one, but Burrow is now tied with Clemson’s Trevor Lawrence and Oklahoma’s Jalen Hurts at five to one.

LSU was missing several starters at practice yesterday. Senior linebacker Michael Divinity, right guard Damien Lewis, outside linebacker K’Lavon Chaisson and defensive ends Rashard Lawrence and Glen Logan. Fourth-ranked LSU hosts Northwestern State on Saturday.

There’s now a Louisiana connection with all of the drama surrounding Patriots wide receiver Antonio Brown. Former LSU gymnast Britney Taylor claims in a federal civil lawsuit that Brown sexually assaulted her three times. Taylor is Brown’s former trainer and the two met while they attended Central Michigan. Taylor went on to compete at LSU in 2012 and 2013. Brown says the sexual relationship was consensual.

It was a terrific football game in the Louisiana Superdome last night and to make it better for Who Dats, the Saints won, beating the Houston Texans 30-28. New Orleans QB Drew Brees threw for 370 yards and two touchdowns, while Houston signal caller DeShaun Watson put on a show, scoring four total TDs and routinely breaking the Black and Gold’s back on third down. Coach Sean Payton says nothing seemed to slow him down…

But the Saints were able to keep Texans All-Pro defensive end J-J Watt out of the backfield. Right tackle Ryan Ramczyk did such a good job on Watt, the three-time NFL Defensive Player of the Year didn’t record a tackle or sack.

And the Saints running game looked fine without Mark Ingram. New Orleans rushed for 148 yards, led by Alvin Kamara’s 97 yards on 13 carries.

LSU had its share of players who had to leave Saturday’s game at Texas because of muscle cramping. Tigers Coach Ed Orgeron says the visting locker room at Texas did not have A-C, plus it was hot and the defense was on the field for a long time. Orgeron says they tried to prevent the cramps, but they’ll need to be more proactive in the future…

Texas officials says they were not aware of any issues with the A-C in the visiting locker room and they say it’s working just fine.

In the lastest high school football polls, St. Thomas More is the new number one team in Four-A as the Cougars moved past Karr, who lost against John Curtis last week. The Patriots remain number one in Five-A, followed by West Monroe. Southern Lab is the new number one ranked team in One-A. Oak Grove drops to number two following a loss to Benton.

The LSU men’s basketball schedule is out for the upcoming season. The Tigers begin defense of their SEC title on January 4th at Tennessee.

For the second straight week, LSU quarterback Joe Burrow has been named SEC Offensive Player of the Week. Burrow threw for a career-high 471 yards and four touchdowns in the 45-38 win over Texas. Coach Ed Orgeron is glad Burrow is leading his offense

True freshman kicker Cade York was also named SEC Special Teams Player of the Week. York connected on three field goals and made all of his extra points. And the Dodd Trophy of the Week goes to Coach Ed Orgeron who orchestrated the Tigers first ever win on the road against a team ranked in the top 10.

In the Stats FCS Poll, Nicholls is ranked 12th. After a week off the Colonels are back in action this Saturday against Priairie View. Southeastern Louisiana is ranked 23rd. The Lions will visit Ole Miss this Saturday.
