Saturday was a tough day for the LSU secondary as the Tigers defense allowed Mississippi state Quarterback KJ Costello to throw for an SEC record 623 passing yards. On the other side of the ball, the Tigers gave up seven sacks. After reviewing the tape, LSU Coach Ed Orgeron on the Tigers line play, starting with the D-Line

And Orgeron says starting left tackle Dare Rosenthal is very questionable to play Saturday at Vanderbilt, after getting injured on the final drive of last Saturday’s game.

Saints wide receiver Michael Thomas returned to practice yesterday. He hopes to play this Sunday in Detroit.

The Ragin Cajuns football game scheduled for next Wednesday at Appalachian State has been postponed due to positive COVID-19 tests and contact tracing with the Mountaineers football program. The game will be played instead on either Friday, December fourth or Saturday, December fifth in Boone, North Carolina. The Cajuns next scheduled game is October 17th versus Coastal Carolina.

Meanwhile, ULM hosts Georgia Southern this Saturday, who lost last Saturday to the Cajuns by two points, 20-18. The Eagles run an option offense, but Warhawks Coach Matt Viator says they can throw the ball too…

Saints All-pro receiver Michael Thomas was back at practice yesterday after missing the last two games with a high-ankle injury. Thomas was limited and so was cornerback Marshon Lattimore, because of a hamstring injury. Cornerback Janoris Jenkins, tight end Jared Cook and left guard Andrus Peat did not practice.

After giving up 37 points in a loss to Green Bay on Sunday, Saints Coach Sean Payton wants to see his defense play with more discipline. He says it was disappointing to see how they played the boot leg on Sunday night…

Payton wore a paper mask during Sunday’s loss to Green Bay after getting fined for not wearing a mask in the previous game. The NFL is serious about this issue. They are reportedly looking to strip teams of draft picks and hand down suspensions if protocols are not followed.

LSU Coach Ed Orgeron says he expects All American cornerback Derek Stingley Junior will be able to play this Saturday at Vanderbilt after missing the season opener with an illness. Commodores Coach Derek Mason says Stingley’s return will be a big boost for the Tigers defense…

College football news reports that the College Football Playoff will stay at four teams this year after a proposal was discussed to expand the playoff to eight teams.

There was a lot of discussion at the State Capitol today over the 25-percent maximum capacity at athletic events. High school football programs are not happy with this coronavirus restriction. Assistant state health officer Dr. Joe Kanter says while fans might sit apart from each other, there are times when they may get close to each other and we know that a person can spread the virus even if they are asymptomatic.

Baton Rouge Republican Rick Edmonds says the inability to attend high school football games is detrimental to families who feel it’s a time-honored tradition. Edmonds tells state health officer, Dr. Jimmy Guidry, he wants the policy to be reviewed to see if the cap can be raised.

Today on the SEC Media teleconference, Coach Ed Orgeron said he believes Derek Stingley will play Saturday night against the Commodores after missing the season opener with a non-COVID illness. But he says starting left tackle Dare Rosenthal is questionable with an injury. Cam Wire would start if Rosenthal can’t play.

La Tech starting left tackle Willie Allen has decided not to play anymore this season. In a statement on Twitter, Allen says there’s too much going on this country and he’s concerned about his health and COVID-19.

The Saints are in Detroit this Sunday to face the Lions. Both teams are 1-and-2 on the year. Detroit won last week beating the Cardinals in Arizona. Lions Quarterback Matthew Stafford threw for 270 yards and two touchdowns. Coach Sean Payton on the veteran Q-B….

A new injury report comes out today. We’ll see if Michael Thomas is able to practice. He’s missed the last two games with a high ankle sprain. Starting guard Andrus Peat suffered an ankle injury in the loss to the Packers and we’ll get a better idea of the severity today.

The NFL has posptponed its first game because of COVID-19 concerns. The Steelers-Titans game will be played either Monday or Tuesday. Tennessee had nine positive cases among staff and players.

The New Orleans Saints return to the practice field today as they get ready for the Detroit Lions on Sunday. The Black and Gold are looking to snap a two-game losing streak. Through three games, the Saints have committed 24 penalties, that’s tied with Dallas for the second-highest total in the NFL. Cameron Jordan says eliminating penalties will be a focus at practice this week…

LSU cornerback Derek Stingley is expected to play this Saturday against Vanderbilt after missing the season opener because of an illness.

The Pelcians have reportedly reached out to Doc Rivers about their head coaching vacancy. Rivers was fired by the Clippers after failing to get Los Angeles to at least the Western Conference Finals.

The Saints made Alvin Kamara one of the highest-paid running backs in the league just before the season started and so far that investment is paying off. Through three games, Kamara is averaging nearly five yards a carry and has 27 receptions with six total touchdowns. Coach Sean Payton highlighted his 52 yard TD catch in Sunday night’s loss…

No update from Payton on starting left guard Andrus Peat, who left the game on a stretcher. He reportedly suffered a high ankle sprain and underwent further testing yesterday.

Several schools in Lake Charles have made the decision not to play varsity high school football this season, because of Hurricane Laura. Barbe, Sam Houston, LaGrange and Washington-Marion have opted out.

Neville is now playing Leesville in Friday’s season opener. The Tigers were scheduled to play Ouachita Parish, but Ouachita has several positive COVID cases.

Through three games this season, he has 153 rushing yards on nearly five yards a carry and 285 yards through the air with six total touchdowns. Kamara also had an impressive 52-yard touchdown catch in Sunday night’s loss to Green Bay, where he broke five different tackles. Not a great first game for Bo Pelini, who began his second stint as LSU’s defensive coordinator on Saturday with the Tigers giving up 623 passing yards. The Tigers tried to play man-to-man coverage, but couldn’t keep up with the Mississippi State receivers or the running back coming out of the backfield. It didn’t help that LSU cornerback Derek Stingley missed the game, because of a non-COVID-19 illness. Stingley could return to practice today and play on Saturday.

LSU Coach Ed Orgeron says Stingley’s replacement Jay Ward missed a couple of weeks during the preseason because of an injury. The Tigers other starter at corner, Cordale Flott, got picked on a lot. Orgeron says they still have confidence in this group…

Coach Billy Napier says this game will serve as a great learning tool for these young adults…

La Tech quarterback Luke Anthony has been named the Conference USA Offensive player of the week. Anthony threw for five touchdowns and ran for another in the Bulldogs 66-38 win over Houston Baptist.

Alvin Kamara had a huge game for the Black and Gold with 197 yards from scrimmage, including a 52-yard touchdown catch that saw him break five tackles. But It’s the second straight week the Saints defense gave up more than 30 points. They also failed to force a turnover last night, only had one sack, and gave up a couple of big passing plays.

Tampa Bay moved into first place in the NFC South with a 28-10 win over Denver. Carolina won its first game, beating the Chargers 21-16 and the Falcons blew another double-digit lead in the fourth quarter and lost to 3-and-0 Bears.
