The Pelicans lost in O-T last night 127 to 123 to Dallas to fall five games back of Memphis for the final playoff spot in the Western Conference with 20 games left. Mavericks guard Luka Doncic had 30 points, 17 rebounds, and 10 assists. Lonzo Ball had seven three-pointers for a second straight game and Zion Williamson had 21 points, his 13th straight 20-plus point performance.

Skylar Mays had 28 points, but LSU struggled again on defense losing to Arkansas 99 to 90. So the Tigers are now in a three-way tie for second place with Auburn and Florida with one game left in the regular season.

Louisiana Tech is also tied for second place in Conference USA after beating F-I-U 76 to 73 in a wild contest. Amorie Archibald had 18 points and Kalob Ledoux had 16 points.

LSU Football Coach Ed Orgeron says Myles Brennan will take all of the snaps as the first-team quarterback when the Tigers kick-off spring practice on Saturday. Brennan has big shoes to fill in trying to replace Heisman Trophy winner Joe Burrow. But Orgeron believes Brennan is up for the challenge…

After a disappointing loss last night at home to the Minnesota Timberwolves, the Pelicans have a tougher assignment tonight against a Mavericks team that’s 12-games over the .500 mark. Last night’s loss, puts the Pels four games back of Memphis for the final playoff spot in the West.

LSU basketball enters tonight’s game at Arkansas in a tie for second place with Auburn in the SEC standings. A couple of weeks ago, Coach Will Wade was not happy with his team, but he feels much better about them now

Also tonight, Louisiana Tech hosts F-I-U. On Saturday the Bulldogs will host Charlotte. A Tech win tonight and they would clinch a first-round bye in next week’s Conference USA Tournament. Tip-off is at 6:30.

Former LSU Quarterback Joe Burrow is asking folks not to compare him to the future Hall of Famer Tom Brady. Burrow said in an ESPN interview that he does not want to be compared to the best player of all time and he would like if everyone lets him do his own thing. NFL Network draft analyst Daniel Jeremiah recently said that Burrow and Brady share similar mechanics.

LSU Football Coach Ed Orgeron said today he’s expecting big things from Myles Brennan in 2020. Brennan goes into spring practice as the Tigers starter at quarterback. Orgeron also vowed he would work harder this year after last year’s dream season.

LSU baseball’s game against Grambling tonight has been rained out. The game has been rescheduled for April 13th. The Tigers snapped a two-game losing streak last night with a six to three win over Southeastern Louisiana.

La Tech’s game at Sam Houston State has also been rained out today. The Bulldogs scored six runs in the tenth inning to beat the Bearkats last night nine to three. Jorge Corona sparked the rally with a solo home run.

Very little defense was played in the Smoothie King Center last night and it resulted in a bad loss for the Pelicans who fell to the Minnesota Timberwolves 139 to 134. It’s only the third win since February for the T-Wolves. New Orleans also missed 25 three-point attempts and 11 free throws. The Pels are at Dallas tonight.

There were plenty of baskets made in the Cajundome last night and U-L Lafayette defeated Coastal Carolina 108 to 101. Cedric Russell had 28 points, P-J Hardy added 24 points. The Cajuns will host Arkansas State in a Sun Belt Tournament game on Saturday.

ULM’s season ended with a 61-57 loss to Appalachian State. The Warhawks finish with a nine and 20 record, five and 15 in the Sun Belt.

After getting no-hit on Sunday, LSU scored five runs in the first three innings last night and went on to a six to three win over Southeastern Louisiana. Cade Doughty hit his second home run of the season.

A week ago, LSU basketball suffered one of its worst losses of the year, a 15-point defeat at Florida. But the Tigers rebounded with a 14-point win over Texas A-and-M on Saturday. Coach Will Wade Wade expects his guys will give a good effort tonight in Fayetteville…

Louisiana Tech will host F-I-U tonight at the Thomas Assembly Center for their first home game in 18 days. The Bulldogs are in third place in the league standings and looking to get a first-round bye in next week’s Conference USA Tournament.

Back to college baseball…Louisiana Tech scored six-runs in the tenth inning to beat Sam Houston State 9-3. ULM blanked Jackson State two to nothing. The Cajuns crushed Rice eleven to two, Southern upended Northwestern State eight to seven, and Nicholls won in walk-off fashion over Valparaiso three to two.

After scoring 65 runs in four games, Louisiana Tech is at Sam Houston State. The Bearkats are coming off a series in which they dropped two out of three to U-L Lafayette. Meanwhile, The Cajuns are at Rice tonight.

ULM and Jackson State meet tonight in Monroe. They come into tonight’s game ranked number one and two in the country in hitting.

LSU’s Beach volleyball squad is ranked number one after beating previously top-ranked UCLA on back-to-back weekends. It’s the first number one ranking in the program’s seven-year history.

LSU’s track and field women’s and men’s programs are ranked number one heading into the 2020 NCAA Indoor Championships on March 13th and 14th.

Memphis’s victory over Atlanta last night puts the Grizzlies 3.5 games ahead of New Orleans for the final playoff spot in the West. The Pelicans host Minnesota at seven PM tonight. The NBA announced today that Zion Williamson is the Western Conference Rookie of the Month. The number one pick averaged 26 points and six rebounds in February and shot 56-percent from the field.

In college basketball action tonight, The Ragin Cajuns host Coastal Carolina. The winner of this game will host a first-round Sun Belt Tournament game on Saturday. ULM will not be in the Sun Belt Tourney so the Warhawks will host Appalachian State in their final game of the season tonight.

McNeese’s Dru Kuxhausen has been named Southland Player of the Week. He hit 14 threes in two games last week to break the conference record for most three-pointers in a season. The Pokes are at Nicholls tomorrow.

There’s Sun Belt Action tonight too…The Ragin Cajuns host Coastal Carolina. The winner of this game will host a first-round Sun Belt Tournament game on Saturday. ULM will not be in the Sun Belt Tournament so the Warhawks will host Appalachian State in their final game of the season tonight.

Bossier Parish Community College will play at three PM against Coastal Ben College from Beeville, Texas in the National Junior College Athletic Association Region 14 Tournament at the Gold Dome on Centenary’s campus.

21st ranked LSU returns to the baseball diamond tonight after getting no-hit on Sunday as the Bayou Bengals host Southeastern Louisiana. Strikeouts have been a big problem. The Tigers struck out 34 times in three games in Houston this past weekend. The Lions come into tonight’s game with a five and six record. The first pitch is at 6:30.

Louisiana Tech’s Steele Netterville has been named Conference USA Hitter of the Week. Netterville hit four home runs and drove in 14 runs last week. The Shreveport native hit two home runs in Sunday’s 26-3 thumping of the Maine Black Bears. Tech is at Sam Houston State tonight.

The Ragin Cajuns are also in Texas tonight as U-L Lafayette will visit Rice. Both teams are off to a slow start, U-L Lafayette is 4-and-8, while the Owls are two and eight.

Nine and two ULM hosts Jackson State. Northwestern State is bringing a nine and two record to Baton Rouge as the Demons visit Southern. Nicholls will host Valparaiso.

The Memphis Grizzlies won last night, extending their lead to 3.5 games over the Pelicans for the final spot in the Western Conference Playoffs. The Pelicans host Minnesota tonight and then travel to Dallas on Wednesday. We’ll see if rookie Zion Williamson will miss one of these two games since they are back-to-back.

Last night, Grambling got crushed by Mississippi Valley State 81-61. Tonight, the Cajuns host Coastal Carolina, who is averaging 78 points per game. ULM faces Appalachian State at 7 PM at Fant-Ewing Coliseum.

The SEC announces that LSU’s Spring Game on April 18th will kick off at noon on ESPN Two. The game will take place on Southern University’s campus due to the resurfacing of the field in Tiger Stadium.

ULM opens spring practice today in the search of a new starting quarterback. It’s a wide-open competition between sophomore Colby Suits, junior college transfer Jeremy Hunt, walk-on Garrett Hable and former Sterlington star Hayes Crockett.

Lebron James and Zion Williamson put on a show last night inside the Smoothie King Center, but once again it was the Lakers who beat the Pelicans 122 to 114 to sweep the season series over New Orleans. James had a triple-double, 34 points, 13 assists and 12 rebounds as he had to step up his game with Anthony Davis out with a sore right knee. Williamson had 35 points and six turnovers. After the game, James shared some words of encouragement to Williamson.

Over in Houston, Oklahoma junior right-hander Dane Acker threw a no-hitter against LSU as the Sooners defeated the Bayou Bengals one to nothing. It’s the first time the Tigers have been no-hit since 1978. Coach Paul Mainieri tips his cap to Acker…

LSU lost two of three in Houston and struck out 34 times.

Southern University pitcher Joseph Battaglia threw a seven-inning no-hitter as the Jaguars defeated Prairie View 20-0. Battaglia has not allowed a run in 15 innings this season. Bubba Thompson homered and 4 RBIs.

The Ragin Cajuns won their first series of the season as they won yesterday’s rubber match with Sam Houston State seven to five.

ULM improved to nine and two with a four to two win over Illinois State four to two. Mason Holt had three hits and a solo home run. Freshman Nicholas Judice picked up his first career win in his first collegiate start.

Louisiana Tech trounced Maine 26 to 3. The Bulldogs have scored 60 runs in their last three games. Tech tied a school record yesterday with seven home runs. Steele Netterville hit two home runs and drove in seven runs.

Elsewhere…Tulane trounced Middle Tennessee 11 to seven. Nicholls swept a doubleheader from L-I-U Brooklyn, and Mcneese beat Southern Miss 18 to six in seven innings and Valparaiso eight to three.

LSU will play Baylor on saturday and Oklahoma on Sunday.

Louisiana Tech basketball was up by 17 points with just over five minutes to go last night, but lost to Western Kentucky 95-91 in overtime. The Hilltoppers hit three straight three-pointers to force overtime and then outscored the Dunkin Dogs 15-11 in the extra period.

ULM fell to 5-and-14 in the Sun Belt as they lost to Little Rock 79-63.

At the NFL combine, former LSU wide receiver Justin Jefferson ran a 4-4 in the 40 to help improve his draft stock. Former Tigers tight end Thaddeus Moss has a broken bone in his foot and he will not be able to work out at the combine. And the Cincinnati Bengals reportedly came away very impressed after meeting with Joe Burrow for the first time.

And the Saints and Quarterback Drew Brees reportedly would like to agree on a new contract before the start of a new league year, which is March 18th. Brees announced earlier this month that he’s coming back to the Black and Gold for his 20th season.

Rough night in Gainesville last night for the LSU basketball team as they fell to Florida 81-66. Florida shot 55-percent from the field and was seven of 10 from three-point range in the second half. The Tigers did not have reserve Charles Manning. He’s already missed time with a broken bone in his right foot, now he has a fracture in his left foot and will miss the next few games. The Bayou Bengals host Texas A-and-M at 11 AM on Saturday.

Tonight, Louisiana Tech basketball visits Western Kentucky. The Bulldogs and Hilltoppers are tied for second place in Conference USA, one game back of North Texas. Western Kentucky beat Tech in Ruston earlier this year. Tip-off for the final regular-season road game is at seven PM.

The Pelicans are getting ready for a three-game homestand that starts tomorrow against Cleveland. The Lakers will be in the Smoothie King Center on Sunday and then it’s Minnesota on Tuesday night. The Pelicans are three-games back of the Grizzlies for the final playoff spot in the West.

Legislation filed for the upcoming session could result in sports wagering having a spot on the statewide ballot in November…..
