Although Stephen F Austin claimed a Southland Conference title on Saturday, the Southeastern Lions are still in the hunt for an FCS playoff spot after their 10-7 win over Incarnate Word. Coach Frank Scelfo says it was a great way to bounce back after a disappointing loss to Lamar.

The 8-and-3 Lions will host Nicholls in the River Bell Classic Thursday. The Colonels won their final home game of the season over Northwestern State Saturday behind running back Shane Lee’s career-high 134 rushing yards. First-year head coach Tommy Rybacki says they found a way to win.

ULM suffered its sixth straight loss Saturday after blowing an early 14-nothing lead over South Alabama. After a 3-and-1 start, Warhawks coach Bryant Vincent says they keep beating themselves.

The Warhawks will visit Texas St for their final Sun Belt clash Saturday.

The fifth-ranked LSU women’s basketball team will head to New Orleans tonight to take on Tulane at 6:00. The Green Wave have started 2-and-1 on the season, with their lone loss coming by just eight against Missouri. The Lady Tigers will look to continue their undefeated 4-and-0 start.

The Pelicans will host the defending champion Thunder tonight at 7:00. Interim Head Coach James Borrego will look to earn his first win leading the Pels after losing his debut 124-106 against the Warriors last night.

Frank Wilson became the first black coach to lead LSU football to a victory and Michael Van Buren won his first SEC start after going 0-and-7 for Mississippi State last season. The Tigers defeated Arkansas 23-22 on Saturday. Van Buren shook off a slow start to throw for 221 yards and a touchdown. Wilson says Van Buren got more confident as the game went on.

It’s unknown if Garrett Nussmeier will be able to play this Saturday in the home finale against Western Kentucky.

New coach, same result. Saturday morning, the Pelicans fired Head Coach Willie Green after the team lost ten of their first 12 games, many by lopsided scores. In the first game under interim coach James Borrego last night, the Pelicans fell to the Golden State Warriors, 124-106.

Louisiana Tech had just 167 yards of offense in a 28-3 loss to Washington State on Saturday. Coach Sonny Cumbie’s team still needs one more win to become bowl eligible and they’ll try to get that victory this Saturday at home against Liberty…

ULM lost its sixth straight as the Warhawks fell to South Alabama 26-14.

Northwestern State lost its tenth straight as the Demons gave up a touchdown in the fourth quarter and lost to Nicholls 26-21.

McNeese gave up two touchdowns in the fourth quarter and lost to UTRGV 28-13. And despite finishing with an 8-3 record, Louisiana Christian did not get into the NAIA playoffs.

LSU interim head football coach Frank Wilson says quarterback Garrett Nussmeier has re-aggravated an abdominal injury he sustained in preseason camp, but he’s still expected to start against Arkansas tomorrow. Nussmeier is listed as probable, but Wilson says if Nussmeier’s injury is more problematic than what they thought, Michael Van Buren will make his first start in a Tiger uniform…

The Warhawks will try to snap a five game losing streak, while South Alabama is 2-7. Kick off is at 2:30.

Grambling State has won four in a row; and last week, fourth string and freshman quarterback Hayden Benoit stepped up for the Tigers, throwing for 220 yards and four touchdowns in a win over Bethune-Cookman. Head coach Mickey Joseph had lots of praise for the freshman out of Loreauville.

Grambling is at Alcorn State at two tomorrow afternoon.

The high school football playoffs begin in earnest tonight. St. Charles Catholic is the top seed in the Division Two Select bracket. Spencer Verrett with the LHSAA Network says he likes the Comets to make it to at least the semifinals, but he says to watch out for the number-two Loyola Prep Flyers.

LSU interim head football coach Frank Wilson says quarterback Garrett Nussmeier has re-aggravated his ab injury that slowed him down earlier this season, but he’s still expected to start against Arkansas tomorrow. Tomorrow’s game could be high scoring. The Razorbacks have one of the worst defenses in college football, but Arkansas quarterback Taylan Green leads the country in total offense, averaging 335 yards a game through the air and on the ground. In other action on Saturday, Louisiana Tech is at Washington State, ULM hosts South Alabama, Southeastern Louisiana is at Incarnate Word, Nicholls hosts Northwestern State, McNeese takes on U-T-R-G-V in its home finale, Grambling is at Alcon and Louisiana Christian is at 11th ranked Ottawa University in Arizona and a win for the Wildcats they can clinch a share of the SAC Championships.

 

The high school football playoffs kicked off last night and St. Mary’s went down to south Louisiana and defeated St. John’s of Plaquemine 30-14. Bonnabel beat Riverdale 28-14. The Bruins are led by former LSU Tiger Andre Anthony and it is their first playoff win since 1997.

The LSU men’s basketball team had five players score in double figures last night and defeated F-I-U 98-81. Marquel Sutton had a double-double with 19 points and 12 rebounds. Michael Nwoko (nuh-WOE-koe) also had 19 points.

The first round of the high school football playoffs begins in earnest tonight; and today, we are previewing the select side of the bracket. Spencer Verrett with the LHSAA Network says Edna Karr is the favorite to repeat as Division One select champs, but a few of their Catholic League rivals might have a chance at upsetting the Cougars.

Paul Skenes is the first former LSU pitcher to win a Cy Young Award. Skenes was a unanimous winner of the 2025 National League Cy Young Award. The Pittsburgh Pirates right-hander had a 1.97 ERA and had 216 strikeouts in his second season in the big leagues.

For the fourth time this season, the LSU women’s basketball team broke the century mark as they defeated Charlotte 117 to 59. MiLaysia Fulwiley had 22 points, knocking down five three-pointers. Several of them were from long-range. Mikayla Williams added 18 points.

The LSU men’s basketball team will try to go 3-0 tonight as the Tigers host F-I-U.

The Pelicans fell to 2-9 last night, losing to Portland 125-117. Rookie center Derek Queen had 26 in a losing effort.

In Brian Kelly’s lawsuit against LSU, it claims that Monday wvas the first time the former Tigers coach was told the school was seeking to fire him for cause. Tiger Rag Executive Editor Todd Horne says sources close to the situation tell him that’s not the case, as Kelly was informed of the possibility that he could be fired for cause the day after LSU’s loss to Texas A&M.

Horne says his sources tell him Kelly was offered a 30-million dollar buyout and when he refused, LSU said they would fire him for cause.

The Cowboys look to make it three straight as they host Texas Rio Grande Valley Saturday at 6 p.m in Navarre Stadium.

The 5th ranked LSU women’s basketball looks to go 4-0 on the season as they host Charlotte tonight at 7 PM. It’s been an impressive start to her college career as freshman ZaKiyah Johnson is averaging nearly 15 points and six rebounds a game.

Last night. Tulane went on a 12-0 run in the second half and defeated the Ragin Cajuns 66-62.

Northwestern State lost in overtime to North Alabama 87 to 83 despite 29 points from senior guard Micah Thomas.

Former LSU football Coach Brian Kelly has filed a lawsuit against LSU in an effort to get his entire $54 million buyout. LSU has reportedly tried to negotiate a lower buyout number. Could this legal battle potentially hurt the head coaching search? ESPN Baton Rouge Radio’s Matt Moscona appeared on the Moon Griffon show and says LSU has notified potential coaches and their representatives that Kelly’s legal team was going to file a lawsuit.

Moscona believes the LSU football coaching search is in a better place than it was a week ago after naming Wade Rousse as the new president and Verge Ausberry as athletic director.

The fifth-ranked LSU women’s basketball team hosts Charlotte tonight. The Lady Tigers are 3-and-0, and in every game, they’ve at least scored 100 points. The 49ers are 2-and-1, including a five-point win over U-C-F.

Tulane men’s basketball defeated the Ragin Cajuns 66 to 62 in Lafayette last night. The Green Wave improves 3-0 on the season, while U-L Lafayette falls to 1-and-2. The Cajuns shot just 36 percent from the field.

Northwestern State lost in overtime to North Alabama 87 to 83, despite 29 points from Micah Thomas.

The Pelicans begin a five-game homestand tonight by taking on the Portland Trail Blazers.

ULM football has lost five in a row heading into Saturday’s game against South Alabama. The Warhawks have to win the rest of their games to make it to a bowl game. Head coach Bryant Vincent says negativity has not been a part of his team’s thought process…

The LSU-Brian Kelly saga has worked its way to the courtroom. The Tigers’ former head football coach has filed a lawsuit against his former employer, demanding his full 54-million-dollar buyout after the school fired him October 26th. Kelly claims in his lawsuit filed in East Baton Rouge Parish that LSU is trying to claim that it fired him for cause and is trying to get out of paying him anything.

LSU is not the only Louisiana school dealing with college football drama. Seven U-L Lafayette players are suspended following a postgame altercation with Texas State. Head Coach Mike Desormeaux says the fight put a damper on the mood in the locker room after the win.

Also, 18 Grambling players are suspended for their role in a fight against Bethune-Cookman.

 

LSU interim head football coach Frank Wilson says the Tigers will play both quarterbacks, Garrett Nussmeier and Michael Van Buren this Saturday against Arkansas. Wilson and the coaching staff also have a decision to make at starting right tackle. The regular starter, Weston Davis, was replaced by Ory Williams during the loss to Alabama…

The Louisiana High School football playoffs start Friday. In Division One non-select, Ruston and Neville are the top two seeds. Spencer Verrett with the LHSAA Network says these two district rivals played each other in October, and it was one of the best games of the year.

Ruston beat Neville on October 17th, 41-37.

LSU interim head football coach Frank Wilson didn’t name a starting quarterback for Saturday’s matchup against Arkansas, but all signs point towards senior Garrett Nussmeier remaining as Q-B one. Wilson says that Nussmeier will take the first team reps this week in practice.

In high school football, North Desoto just completed its first undefeated regular season and they are the one-seed in the Division Two non-select bracket. LHSAA Network’s Spencer Verrett says this bracket features a bunch of good teams…

The Sun Belt has suspended seven players from the Ragin Cajuns football team for their role in the postgame brawl that took place after U-L Lafayette’s win over Texas State. Cajuns Coach Michael Desormeaux says the Bobcats started the brawl…

The Sun Belt suspended six players from the Bobcats.

The SWAC has suspended 18 players from Grambling State and nine players from Bethune Cookman. A huge fight broke out between the two teams right before the start of the second half. Grambling has also been fined 40-thosuand dollars.

The LSU men’s basketball team got off to a quick start last night and ended up beating UNO 93-58. Michael Nwoko had 22 points in 20 minutes. Marquel Sutton had 15 points and 15 rebounds.
