The LSU baseball lost at home to Vanderbilt last night 13-1 in the opening game of a three-game series.  The Tigers kept it tight early but the Commodores pulled away as starting pitcher Landon Marceaux allowed nine runs on the night.  LSU was held to just four hits.  Game two is tonight at 8 p.m.

The Ragin Cajuns defeated ULM nine to five on the diamond after jumping out to a 6-0 lead.  Pitcher Spencer Arrighetti threw six shutout innings for the Cajuns as he earned his fifth win of the season.

The 17th ranked Louisiana Tech baseball team blew out U-A-B 16 to one in seven innings. The Bulldogs scored nine runs in the second inning while hitting three home runs in the second by Kyle Hasler, Hunter Wells, and Manny Garcia.

The Pelicans played without Zion Williamson, Brandon Ingram and Lonzo Ball due to injuries and New Orleans lost to the Orlando Magic 115 to 110 in overtime last night.  The Pels were led in scoring by Nikeil Alexander-Walker who poured in 31 points and 8 rebounds.

LSU defensive back Jay Ward has received a lot of praise from Coach Ed Orgeron as he’s made a change from cornerback and safety. Ward says he spoke with defensive coordinator Daronte Jones about the position change after Jones was hired…

In college football last night, Northwestern State fell to fifth-ranked Sam Houston 24-16. The Demons are 0-5 during the spring season. Tomorrow, Southeastern hosts Lamar and Nicholls visits McNeese at noon.

Also, Southern will be on the road to take on coach Deion Sanders and Jackson State tomorrow at 4 p.m.  The game will be broadcasted on ESPN.  Both teams are 2-1 on the season.

It was complete domination last night at Alex Box Stadium as the number one ranked Vanderbilt Commodores crushed the LSU Tigers 13-1 to open a three-game series. The Bayou Bengals were held to four hits, while LSU starting pitcher Landon Marceaux (Mar-so) allowed nine runs.

There was also a blow out in Ruston as 17th ranked Louisiana Tech trounced U-A-B 16 to one in seven innings. The Bulldogs scored nine runs in the second inning. Tech hit three home runs in that inning, Kyle Hasler, Hunter Wells and Manny Garcia.

McNeese scored two in the ninth to beat Southeastern Louisiana six to four, Nicholls topped Tennessee-Martin two to one in eleven innings and Northwestern State beat Abilene Christian eight to two in 12 innings.

A struggling LSU baseball team begins a three-game series against top-ranked Vanderbilt tonight. The Commodores are 20-3, 5-and-1 in conference play and they lead the SEC in team ERA and batting average. The Tigers are one and five in league play and will face two terrific starting pitchers during the series in Kumar Rocker and Jake Leiter. Rocker pitches tonight against LSU’s Landon Marceaux. First pitch is at 6:30.

After winning three of four from Coastal Carolina, the Ragin Cajuns will face in-state rival U-L-M in Monroe for a three-game series starting tonight. The Warhawks are looking to snap a three-game losing streak.

McNeese looks to end a four-game losing streak as they are at Southeastern Louisiana. 17th ranked Louisiana Tech will host UAB for a four-game series starting tonight.

One of the top players in the Southland Conference has transferred to La Tech to play basketball. Six-foot-three guard Keaston Willis is now a Bulldog after averaging 19 points a game for Incarnate Word last season.

Former Tigers wide receiver Ja’Marr Chase returned to LSU’s indoor practice facility and ran a 4.38 in the 40-yard dash on pro day. Chase opted out before the start of the COVID-shortened 2020 season and said it wasn’t easy to watch LSU go 5-and-5 on the season…

The Pelicans could be without three starters tonight as they host Orlando. Zion Williamson has been ruled out with a thumb injury, Lonzo Ball will miss his sixth straight game with a hip injury and Brandon Ingram is listed as doubtful with a foot injury.

Zion Williamson is questionable with a sprained right thumb, while guard Lonzo Ball is also questionable with a hip injury that’s forced him to miss the last five games. After not getting traded before the deadline. Ball told the media he wants to play in New Orleans. He will be a restricted free agent this summer.

The LSU baseball team welcomes top-ranked Vanderbilt to Alex Box Stadium tonight for the start of a three-game series. The Commodores are 20-and-3 and have two outstanding starting pitchers. Tonight, LSU will see Kumar Rocker who is 6-and-0 with a 0.73 ERA. Rocker has also struck out 53 in 37 innings. LSU will counter with Landon Marceaux, who is 2-and-2 with a 0.26 ERA. He has 44 strikeouts in 35 innings. First pitch is at 6:30.

In other action, 17th ranked Louisiana Tech hosts UAB. Left-hander Jonathan Fincher gets the start for the Bulldogs, he’s 4-and-0 with a 1.69 ERA. The Blazers are 9-and-13 on the season.

ULM hosts the Cajuns for a three-game series starting tonight. The Warhawks have lost three in a row.

In the Southland, the first place Southeastern Louisiana Lions host McNeese. Nicholls is a game back of the Lions and the Colonels start a non-conference series against U-T Martin.

Four former LSU players ran a sub 4.4 in the 40-yard dash at the school’s pro day today. Defensive back Kary Vincent Junior had the fastest time at 4.33. Wide receiver Racey McMath ran a 4.34 and fellow wideouts Ja’Marr Chase and Terrace Marshall Junior each ran a 4.38. Chase was at LSU’s pro day even though he didn’t play the last season as he opted out before the season opener. Draft analyst Mike Detillier still looks at Chase as a top-five pick…

There is a college football game in the state tomorrow night. Northwestern State hosts 5th ranked Sam Houston on E-S-P-N-plus. It’s the final home game of the spring season for the Demons who have an 0-and-4 record.

J-J Redick said on his Podcast that you will not get any honesty from the Pelicans front office. Redick said the team’s executive vice president David Griffin went back on his word when he told him he would trade him to a team closer to his home in Brooklyn. Instead, the Pels shipped Redick to Dallas.

LSU men’s basketball coach Will Wade tells the Advocate that he expects Cam Thomas, Trendon Watford, Javonte Smart, and Darius Days, will turn pro. They have until May 30th to make it official.

And Louisiana Tech Coach Eric Konkol says it was a great achievement to reach the Final Four of the N-I-T…

It’s Pro Day at LSU, a chance for NFL teams to watch former Tigers run the 40-yard dash and participate in other skill and strength events.  Because of Covid, there was no draft combine this year, draft analyst Mike Detillier says it’s a big day for linebacker Jabril Cox.  He says many NFL teams are intrigued by his skillset.

Cut 18 (17) “very well”

The NFL has announced that a 17th regular-season game has been added to each team’s schedule.  For the Saints, they will be on the road to take on the Tennessee Titans for the 2021 regular-season finale.

The LSU baseball team bounced back from being swept by Tennessee over the weekend with an 11-1 victory over South Alabama last night.  Freshman Will Hellmers was credited with the win, improving his record to 5-1.

Now that the season is over, Louisiana Tech men’s basketball coach Eric Konkol has a chance to reflect on the recently completed season that ended on Sunday with a third-place finish in the N.I.T. The Bulldogs finished with a 24-8 record and Konkol is amazed they played 32 games and he’s impressed with his player’s resolve.

LSU men’s basketball’s “big four” will have a choice to make on whether to stay in school or head to the NBA.  Cam Thomas, Trendon Watford, Javonte Smart, and Darius Days will have to make a big decision for their futures.  Though nothing is official, The Advocate says that coach Will Wade believes that all four of his stars will leave.  LSU has already signed a handful of players in the most recent signing class that will arrive on campus in the summer.

The NFL owners have approved a 17-game regular season in 2021. To compensate the NFL reduces the number of preseason games from four to three. The regular season will continue to feature one bye week and adding a regular season means the Super Bowl will be pushed back one week. The 17-game schedule also means the Saints will play the Titans this season.

Every NFL franchise will have a representative on LSU’s campus today for Pro Day as nine former Tiger football players will run the 40 and go through several other drills and workouts for scouts and player personnel officials. LSU football coach Ed Orgeron did not provide any more comments last night about the accusations made by 74-year-old Gloria Scott, who claims she was sexually harassed by former Tigers running back Derius Guice in December 2017. Scott also told a state legislative committee that she spoke with Orgeron about the incident. Coach O said on an ESPN Baton Rouge radio station he does not remember speaking to Scott. After getting swept by Tennessee last weekend, the LSU baseball team crushed South Alabama 11 to one last night. Dylan Crews hit his eighth homer and drove in four runs. Grambling trounced ULM 15-3. Joseph Gunn homered and drove in four runs.

The NFL owners have approved expanding the regular season from 16 games to 17. The NFL is also reducing the preseason by one, to three exhibition games. Since each team is now playing 17 regular-season games, Tennessee has been added to the Saints schedule. The 2021 schedule, with playing dates and times, will be announced later this spring.

The Saints have announced they’ve signed tight end Nick Vannett to a three-year contract. In 2020, Vannett played in 15 games with the Broncos and caught 14 passes, and had a touchdown. Vannett says it didn’t take long for the Saints to reach out after Denver cut him

The Pelicans won for the fourth time in five games last night as New Orleans defeated Boston 115 to 109 at TD Garden. The Celtics made this game interesting at the end as they went on a 15-0 run before Brandon Ingram hit a big shot with 33 seconds left. But Coach Stan Van Gundy still wants to see his team finish games better…

The Saints announced the signing of tight end Nick Vannett to a three-year contract and the team has also signed defensive Tanoh Kpassagnon (pass-EN-yo). He’s been with the Chiefs since 2017 and has seven sacks in 61 career games.

The LSU baseball team is one and five in the SEC, which is matches their worst league start since 2011. That was a year the Tigers didn’t make the NCAA Tournament. The Ragin Cajuns allowed just one hit yesterday to beat Coastal Carolina seven to nothing as they take three of four in that series. Carson Roccaforte had four hits and drove in three runs.
