The LSU men’s basketball team began the season last night with a 94-81 win over S-I-U Edwardsville. There’s been a lot of talk about freshman Cam Thomas and he delivered last night, scoring 27 points. Darrius Days also had a career with 24 points and six rebounds. The Tigers take on St. Louis on Saturday. The Bilkins have a strong team this year. Tip off for that one is at 2 PM.

TJ Finley is expected to make the start again at quarterback on Saturday when the Tigers take on fifth ranked Texas A-and-M. The Aggies rank number one in the SEC in total defense.

Also on Saturday, ULM hosts the Ragin Cajuns. U-L Lafayette Coach Billy Napier has reportedly spoken with South Carolina about their head coaching vacancy.

The high school football playoffs are set to begin on Friday and with the state in a Modified Phase 2, LHSAA executive director Eddie Bonine has sent a memo to schools telling them they must follow the new 25-percent capacity restricition that has been put in place. Bonine also said in the letter that schools could be fined or receive other penalties for not following COVID-19 guidelines.

The college basketball season is underway. Tonight, LSU will tip off the season by facing S-I-U-Edwardsville in a game that will be held in St. Louis. The Tigers have a team that’s expected to be among the best in the SEC.

In action yesterday…Northwestern State fell to 14th ranked Texas Tech 101-58. Nebraska defeated McNeese 102-55. Southeastern Louisiana fell to Purdue-Fort Wayne in overtime 67-63, Grand Canyon knocked off Grambling 69-53 and Nicholls defeated UC Davis 101-94 as Ty Gordon had 23 points and nine assists.

LSU sophomore wide receiver Jaray Jenkins from Jena scored his first touchdown in a Tigers uniform last week.  It was a big catch as the score gave the Tigers a 27-24 lead, and that’s how the game ended with Arkansas.  Jenkins says it was a great moment in his life.

The semifinalists for the Pro Football Hall Of Fame’s 2021 class have been announced, five of which have Louisiana ties, which are former NFL quarterback and New Orleans native Peyton Manning, Eric Allen, who played for the Saints from 1998-2001, former LSU Tiger Allen Faneca, John Ehret graduate Reggie Wayne, and former Saints linebacker Sam Mills.

ULM is hoping to finally play a football game, as they are scheduled to play the Ragin Cajuns after three weeks off due to Covid-19 issues.  Warhawks head coach Matt Viator is looking forward to a normal routine.

The New Orleans Pelicans have re-signed forward Brandon Ingram to a five year, $158 million max deal.  Ingram set career highs last season by averaging 23.8 points, 6.1 rebounds, and 4.2 assists per game.

The 2020-2021 college basketball season begins tonight.  Southeastern will be on the road to take on Purdue Fort Wayne and Nicholls St. is at UC Davis.  LSU will play tomorrow.

ESPN reports the Pelicans and All-Star forward Brandon Ingram have agreed to a five-year 158-million dollar contract, which assures the 23-year-old will be a major building block as New Orleans tries to become a championship contender. The Pels have also signed newly acquired seven-footer Steven Adams to a two-year contract extension worth 35-million dollars.

The Pelicans have finalized the four-team trade that sends Jrue Holiday to Milwaukee and in return, New Orleans gets seven-foot center Steven Adams from Oklahoma City. Also, Forward Brandon Ingram has agreed to a five-year, 158 million dollar contract extension.

Louisiana Tech football coach Skip Holtz said today he’s disappointed, frustrated, and angry over Saturday’s game against FIU being canceled because of COVID issues with FIU. It’s the fourth straight Saturday that the Bulldogs will not play due to a postponement or cancelation, the third by the opponent. They hope to play on December third versus North Texas.

ULM is looking forward to playing its first game since November seventh as the Warhawks will host the Ragin Cajuns this Saturday. Since their last game versus Georgia State, their contest against Arkansas State was postponed and the much-anticipated contest against La Tech in Shreveport was canceled. A lot of football analysts thought Coach Sean Payton was making a mistake by starting Taysom Hill at quarterback over Jameis Winston as Hill was making his first start, while Winston had 20 starts under his belt.  Here’s Payton on why he thinks there was so much negative reaction after it got out that Hill would start.

The New Orleans Pelicans have officially signed 7-foot center Steven Adams to a two year $35 million dollar deal, the veteran big man will provide the Pelicans with some much-needed help in the post.

After getting a much-needed win over Arkansas last Saturday, LSU has now shifted their focus to Texas A&M who they play on the road this weekend.  The Aggies have a high-scoring offense due in large part to their ground game.  Coach Ed Orgeron says A&M has a great running attack.

Louisiana Tech’s football game against FIU has been canceled due to COVID-19 concerns within the Panthers program.  This is the fourth straight week that the Bulldogs won’t play due to cancellation.

ESPN has reported that Bengals quarterback and former LSU star Joe Burrow not only tore his ACL, but he’s also torn his MCL and there are other structural issues in his knee. Burrow was carted off the field on Sunday in a loss to Washington. Recovery could take nine to 12 months.

Last night, the Rams beat the Buccaneers 27-24 as Tampa’s Tom Brady threw two touchdown passes, but also intercepted twice.

The Saints own the best record in the NFC after beating Atlanta 24-9 yesterday. In his first NFL start at quarterback, Taysom Hill threw for 233 yards and rushed for two touchdowns. Hill benefited from a stingy Saints defense, which sacked Falcons quarterback Matt Ryan eight times and intercepted him twice. New Orleans defensive end Trey Hendrickson had two more sacks and credits the game plan and execution…

LSU Freshman quarterback TJ Finley had a nice bounce-back performance against Arkansas after turning it over three times in a loss to Auburn last time out. Finley threw for 271 yards and two touchdowns against the Razorbacks and led LSU on a game-winning drive in the fourth quarter. Coach Ed Orgeron says Finley is a cool customer…

Ragin Cajuns Coach Billy Napier says he’s feeling better after testing positive for COVID-19 last week. The school says Napier began to exhibit symptoms on Tuesday night and the 41-year-old says it got worse on Thursday…

The Taysom Hill led New Orleans Saints got their seventh straight victory after defeating the Atlanta Falcons 24-9 in the NFC South matchup.  Hill filled in for the injured Drew Brees and threw for 233 yards and had two rushing touchdowns.  Hill credits Brees for helping him get ready for his first NFL start.

Cut 19 (19) “best friends”

The Saints defense had a stellar performance yesterday as well, intercepting Matt Ryan twice and sacking him 8 times.  The Saints now have the best record in the NFC.

Cincinnati Bengals quarterback Joe Burrow was carted off the field yesterday after suffering a knee injury against Washington.  An MRI determined that Burrow tore his ACL and he will miss the remainder of the year.

The LSU Tigers got a much-needed win on Saturday as the Bayou Bengals pulled off a 27-24 victory against the Arkansas Razorbacks.  LSU easily won the time of possession as they had the ball for nearly 42 minutes.  Running Back Tyrion Davis-Price rushed for 104 yards and a touchdown.  It’s been a month since the Tigers’ last victory and Davis-Price says they wanted this one badly.

TJ Finley had a nice bounce-back performance after a bad outing against Auburn,  as he threw for 271 yards and two touchdowns.

Ragin Cajuns head coach Billy Napier has tested positive for Covid-19 after receiving his test results on Saturday.  Napier is currently in isolation as he quarantines away from his family.  Pending a successful recovery, Napier will travel separately from his team to Monroe for their game against ULM.
