College football players that wanted to enter the transfer portal this spring had  until Sunday to get in the portal and LSU quarterback Garrett Nussmeier did not get in. So Nussmeier will be on LSU’s roster in 2023 and has three more years of eligibility left, while Jayden Daniels enters his final season as the likely starter.

The Purple and Gold are 35-8 and 15-5 in the SEC, a half game behind Vanderbilt for the best record in league play. The Tigers are at Southeastern tomorrow.

The Lions are having a down year and they were swept by Lamar this past weekend. Northwestern State took two of three from Nicholls and the Demons and Colonels are two games back of first place U-I-W.

The Ragin Cajuns lost 3-2 in 11 innings to Coastal Carolina as they dropped two of three to the sixth ranked team in the country. Louisiana Tech took two of three from Middle Tennessee and ULM was swept by Georgia Southern. On Saturday the Warhawks lost 35 to 8.

The top ranked LSU baseball team improved to 15-and-5 in SEC Play after completing a sweep of Alabama with a 13 to 11 win over the Crimson Tide yesterday. The game was tied at nine in the seventh, but catcher Alex Milazzo came through with an RBI single to give the Tigers the lead for good. Milazzo learned after the game he had the trust of Coach Jay Johnson to get the job done…

The Cajuns fell to 11-10 in Sun Belt play after losing two of three to sixth ranked Coastal Carolina. ULM has lost in six in a row and they are now 15 and 29. Louisiana Tech took two of three from Middle Tennessee and is tied for fourth place in Conference USA.

The Saints used their last pick in the 2023 NFL draft to take wide receiver A-T Perry from Wake Forest. He’s six-foot-three, 195 pounds and had 28 touchdowns during his career with the Demon Deacons. Coach Dennis Allen calls Perry an intriguing prospect…

The Saints also signed South Carolina State receiver Shaquan Davis as an unrestricted free agent. He’s six-foot-four, 216 pounds, and in 35 career games he caught 133 passes for 2,724 yards and 29 touchdowns.

Former LSU wide receiver Kayshon Boutte slid all the way into the sixth round until he was selected by the New England Patriots. At one time during Boutte’s career, he was considered a first round pick, but injuries and a lack of production hurt his draft stock.

The top ranked LSU baseball team held on for an eight to six victory to win game one of its series against Alabama last night. Dylan Crews and Tommy White each homered and Crews drove in four runs. Paul Skenes allowed one run in six innings to improve to 8-and-1 on the season. Game two is tonight at 6 PM.

The Ragin Cajuns knocked off sixth ranked Coastal Carolina 11 to 9. John Taylor had three hits and also drove in three runs as UL Lafayette had 16 hits.

Louisiana Tech had 21 hits and and defeated Middle Tennessee 18-8. Brody Drost had a grand slam and Justin Williams homered twice.

Georgia Southern outscored ULM eight to six, Northwestern State doubled up Nicholls four to two, Lamar edged Southeastern Louisiana five to four, and UIW knocked off Mcneese eight to seven.

The Saints found themselves a pass rusher and a running back in day two of the NFL draft. With the 40th overall pick, the Saints selected defensive end Isaiah Foskey. He’s Notre DAme’s career record-holder for sacks with 26.5 for his career. Folsky had eleven sacks in 2022 and 2021.

In the third round, New Orleans took T-C-U running back Kendre Miller. He rushed for nearly 14-hundred yards for the Horned Frogs and had a streak of five-straight 100 yard rushing games. New Orleans was looking for a running back with Alvin Kamara facing a possible suspension as a result of the battery charges he faces for a fight that occured in a Las Vegas casino.

The Saints have five more picks today.

Former LSU Tiger B-J Ojulari went in the second round to the Arizona Cardinals.

The high school state softball championships are today in Sulphur. Tioga is playing in its first state title game since 1979 as they will take on St. Thomas More in the Division One select state title game.

The Saints held steady with the 29th pick and drafted Clemson defensive tackle Bryan Bresee (bruh-ZEE). The six-foot-five, 298 pounder had 51 tackles and nine sacks in 26 games in three seasons at Clemson. His 2021 season ended early because of a torn ACL and last year he only played in ten games because of a severe case of strep throat. Also his 15-year-old sister died last September from brain cancer.

No LSU Tigers were selected in the first round, but defensive end B-J Ojulari (O-juh-lar-e) is expected to be selected in today’s second round. New Orleans has two picks today, one in the second round and in the third round.

LSU women’s basketball coach Kim Mulkey has found her new point guard as Hailey Van Lith has committed to the Lady Tigers. Van Lith averaged nearly 20 points a game last season for Louisville.

Top-ranked LSU begins a three-game SEC series tonight at home against the Crimson Tide. Alabama enters the game with a 9-9 SEC record, 30-12 overall. The Tigers are 12-5 and in first place in the SEC West and they are 32-8 overall. LSU leads the SEC in hitting and they’ve scored a league-high 397 runs. In college baseball last night, the Cajuns clobbered Northwestern State 15 to 3 and Southern Miss topped Louisiana Tech six to five.

The first round of the 2023 NFL Draft is tonight, and the Saints hold the 29th overall pick thanks to Sean Payton’s move to Denver. New Orleans’ tenth overall pick belongs to the Eagles after trading up in last year’s first round. Saints General Manager Mickey Loomis is known for his aggressive drafting strategy and seems open to moving up again if possible. He says the Saints don’t have the ammunition to make a big jump forward, but don’t expect them to move back either…

Most draft analysts believe the Saints will take a defensive or offensive lineman in the first round. Clemson defensive tackle Bryan Bresee (bruh-ZEE) is a popular name. He was a second-team All-ACC selection.

The Pelicans announce guard CJ McCollum underwent successful surgery to repair a torn ligament in his right thumb. McCollum also dealt with a shoulder injury, but he will not have surgery on his torn labrum and instead will undergo an offseason rehabilitation program. He is expected to make a full recovery before training camp.

In college baseball last night. the Ragin Cajuns pounded Northwestern State 15 to 3 as Kyle DeBarge and Will Veillon each had three hits. The Demons are now 21-and-17 and will host Nicholls this weekend. U-L Lafayette begins a three-game series at home against sixth ranked Coastal Carolina on Friday. Louisiana Tech lost its fourth straight game as they fell to Southern Miss six to five. Ethan Bates had a three-run homer in a losing effort. The Bulldogs are at Middle Tennessee this weekend.

In football recruiting news, LSU football receives a commitment from two-sport star Trey’Dez Green from East Feliciana High School. Green is six-foot-eight and caught 42 passes for 864 yards and 14 touchdowns last season. Green also averages 24 points and 13 rebounds on the basketball court.

Nicholls shocked the no. 1 ranked Tigers baseball team with a 6-5 victory in Alex Box. LSU got off to a slow start thanks to a stifling Colonel’s defense, but took a 4-3 lead in the bottom of the sixth and were tied heading into the ninth. With bases loaded, Nicholls pinch hitter Brayden Kuriger broke the tie with a single to right and a second run scored off an LSU error. Kuriiger said he stayed ready for his opportunity…

All-Sothland second team forward Christian Shumate announced he will return to McNeese for his junior season. The cowboy’s leading scorer and rebounder was second the conference in boards and averaged 15 points and almost 10 rebounds a game. He helped lead McNeese to the conference tournament semifinals and broke a 33 year old record for most rebounds in the tournament.  First year head coach Will Wade says he’s excited to see what they can do together next season.

Big upset in college baseball as the Nicholls Colonels defeated top ranked LSU six to five last night. Shortstop Parker Coddou finished off the game with a fantastic double play as he caught a pop up in shallow centerfield and then ran to second base to record the second out as LSU pinch runner Jack Merrifield was already at third base, thinking the ball would fall in for a hit. It was the first win for Nicholls against a number one ranked team since 2009. Coach Mike Silva….

The Demons are in Lafayette tonight to face the Ragin Cajuns. U-L Lafayette snapped a three-game losing streak last night when they defeated Southern ten to five. Conor Higgs had a two-run triple to fuel a seven run third inning.

Louisiana Tech is looking to snap a three-game losing streak tonight when they visit Southern Miss. Bulldogs Coach Lane Burroughs says getting a win tonight would be great, but making sure they are among the eight teams that make the Conference USA Tournament is more important…

The Bulldogs are 9-and-9 in Conference USA action and in fifth place. There are ten teams in CUSA and eight make the postseason tournament.

Grambling improved to 14-and-4 in the SWAC with a 16-seven win over Alcorn State last night. The Tigers have won three in a row and they lead the SWAC West. Grambling hosts Prairie View this weekend.

Big news for the McNeese Men’s’ basketball team as the Cowboys leading scorer and rebounder Christian Shumate is exiting the transfer portal and will play for McNeese next season.

Nicholls took down top ranked LSU six to five in a wild baseball game last night in Baton Rouge. The Colonels trailed four to three heading into the eighth inning, but tied it in the eighth and scored two runs in the ninth and held on for the one run win. Xane Washington drove in two runs and Nico Saltaformaggio pitched three scoreless innings for the win. Bryce Collins gave up two runs in the ninth and suffered the loss.

The Ragin Cajuns snapped a three-game losing streak with a ten to five win over Southern. Carson Roccaforte had three hits and drove in two runs. U-L Lafayette hosts Northwestern State tonight.

ULM lost its third straight falling to Stephen F Austin 14 to 8. Southern Miss outscored Tulane 11 to ten, UNO edged South Alabama six to five and Grambling pummeled Alcorn State 16 to 7 to stay in first place in the SWAC West. Jose Vargas drove in three runs for the Tigers.

After getting swept by a red-hot Dallas Baptist team, Louisiana Tech baseball returns to action tonight as they face Southern Miss in Hattiesburg. The Bulldogs are 20-21 overall, nine and nine in Conference USA action. Tech Coach Lane Burroughs is hoping for a strong finish and a deep run in the league tournament…

The battle for place kicker at LSU will continue in August. Damian Ramos was 10 for 14 on field goals last season. Sophomore Nathan Dibert competed with Ramos last fall and this spring and Coach Brian Kelly says the competition continues…

In college basketball news…former LSU guard Cam Hayes is transferring to East Carolina. Louisiana Tech announces six-foot-eleven Daniel Batcho is transferring to Ruston. He spent the last two seasons at Texas Tech and averaged eight points and six rebounds a game last season. McNeese is getting a transfer from TCU, Shahada (sha-ha-day) Wells. He averaged six points a game last season.
