The second ranked LSU baseball team hit four home runs last night to snap a two-game losing streak as the Tigers trounced Northwestern State 14 to 4. In the second inning, Tommy White, Cade Beloso and Hayden Travinski went back to back-to-back. Jordan Thompson also hit a three-run homer.

Walker Burchfield’s pinch-hit grand slam in the seventh inning helped Louisiana Tech get past the Ragin Cajuns 12 to eight. Ethan Bates was the winning pitcher as he struck out C-J Willis with the bases loaded in the ninth inning to end the game.

McNeese scored seven runs in the final two innings and defeated Nicholls seven to three in a non-conference match-up.

LSU and Louisiana Tech softball teams will have an early start today. The Tigers will battle Ole Miss in the SEC Tournament at 10 AM, and the Lady Techsters will open up the Conference USA tournament in Ruston at 10 AM as well as they will host Middle Tennessee.

In the Southland Tournament. Southeastern handled Houston Christian seven to one and Northwestern State defeated Nicholls eight to two in eight innings.

LSU men’s basketball coach Matt McMahon has been busy in the transfer portal as he tries to bring a winning product to Baton Rouge. He’s officially signed four transfers, three of them are Louisiana natives from the Baton Rouge area, Jordan Wright, Jalen Cook and Carlos Stewart. After going 2-and-16 in the SEC last season, McMahon knew he needed some veteran players to jump start the program…

Former Cajuns cornerback Trey Amos has committed to Alabama. The New Iberia native also drew interest from LSU after spending three seasons at U-L Lafayette. Last year he had 36 tackles and eight pass break ups.

The second ranked LSU baseball team faces Northwestern State tonight as the Tigers look to snap a two-game losing streak. LSU is 37-10, while the Demons are 25 -20. Northwestern State features the Southland Hitter of the Week, Michael Dattalo, a freshman from Keller, Texas. The infielder leads the Southland in hitting with a .395 average and seven home runs and 38 RBIs.

LSU’s Paul Skenes is the reigning SEC Pitcher of the Week and will make his next start on Friday against Mississippi State. Skenes struck out a career-high 15 hitters last Friday. Coach Jay Johnson says Skenes preparation between starts is second to none…

In recruiting news….former Ragin Cajuns cornerback and New Iberia native Trey Amos has committed to Alabama. LSU targeted Amos who is considered one of the better players in the transfer portal.

LSU men’s basketball has received a verbal commitment from six-foot-seven small forward Devon Pryer out of Houston. He’s a 2024 recruit, who also received offers from Texas A-and-M, Virginia Tech, Colorado, and Oklahoma State.

The semifinal round of the high school baseball playoffs got underway today in Sulphur. In a non-select Division Five match-up, third seeded Pitkin edged seventh seeded Weston Five to four. And in Select Division Five, top seeded Avoyelles Public Charter crushed fourth seeded Claiborne Christian ten to one.

Also in southwest Louisiana, the Southland Softball Tournament is in Lake Charles. Tonight, third seeded Nicholls will take on Northwestern State. The Colonels Justin Lewis has been named Southland Coach of the Year. Nicholls went 13-and-11 in the Southland this season, after winning just four conference games last year.

The six-foot-ten, 235 pounder averaged nearly nine points and six rebounds a game last season. He’s the fourth prep player from Louisiana to transfer to LSU in the last five weeks.

The Southland Conference Softball Tournament begins today in Lake Charles. At 2:30 Southeastern Louisiana will take on H-C-U. The Lions Bailey Krolczyk has been named the Southland Player of the Year and the Hitter of the Year. S-L-U’s catcher is hitting .384 10 home runs and 48 RBIs.

Tonight Nicholls takes on Northwestern State. The Colonels Justin Lewis has been named Coach of the Year. McNeese is the top seed and they will play tomorrow against the winner of today’s game between Lamar and A-and-M Corpus Christi.

The Conference USA Softball Tournament gets underway tomorrow at noon in Ruston. La Tech will play Middle Tennessee.

The Sun Belt Tournament gets underway tomorrow in Lafayette. Eighth seeded ULM will face ninth seeded Georgia State at 4 PM. The Cajuns are the top seed and will play the winner of that game on Thursday night.

Former LSU football coach Ed Orgeron has announced he’s engaged to his girlfriend Brandy Nicole. Coach O posted a photo on Twitter that shows off Brandy’s engagement ring. The 61-year-old Orgeron divorced his previous wife in April of 2020 after 23 years of marriage. This will be his third marriage.

Both D-1 Baseball and Baseball America have dropped the Tigers to the number two spot. They both have Wake Forest number one and LSU ranked second. Tiger pitchers Christian Little and Griffin Herring combined to walk six hitters in a six-run first inning yesterday and the Tigers lost to Auburn 12 to 2.

The Ragin Cajuns completed a sweep of ULM with a ten to nothing win yesterday. The Cajuns improved to 14-and-10 and they are tied for fourth place in the Sun Belt. ULM is 5-and-18 in league play and they’ve lost eight in a row in conference action.

Louisiana Tech could not complete the sweep of UAB over the weekend as they were burned by the Blazers six to one yesterday. Tech is in fourth place in Conference USA.

Nicholls is in first place in the Southland Conference after sweeping Southeastern Louisiana in a doubleheader yesterday.

Grambling strengthened its lead in the SWAC Western Division with two wins over Texas Southern.

Mansfield native and former Oakland A’s star Vida Blue has passed away at age of 73. Blue was named the American League MVP and won the Cy Young in 1971. Before helping the As to three straight World Series Championships, he was a star athlete at North DeSoto High. Not only a dominating pitcher, but a great quarterback too.

The top ranked LSU baseball team lost its first SEC series of the season this weekend as Auburn took the rubber match 12 to 2 in eight innings. Brutal first inning for the Bayou Bengals as Christian Little and Griffin Herring could not get anyone out and they walked six hitters in a six-run first inning. LSU is 16 and 7 in the SEC, a half game back of Arkansas for first place in the SEC West.

The Ragin Cajuns completed a sweep of ULM with a ten to nothing win yesterday. The game was shortened to six innings because of weather. The Cajuns improved to 14-and-10 and they are tied for fourth place in the Sun Belt. ULM is 5-and-18 in league play and they’ve lost eight in a row in conference action.

Tre Morgan supplied the offense as he hit a two run homer in the first inning and then delivered an RBI single in the seventh inning. Game two of the series is tonight at 8 PM.

The Cajuns doubled up ULM eight to four as Julian Brock had four hits and Jackson Nezuh allowed three earned runs in seven innings to get the win.

Louisiana Tech had a season high 21 hits and hit five home runs and the Bulldogs blasted UAB 16 to 3 to improve to 12 and 10 in Conference USA.

LSU women’s hoops has added another all-American to its roster as forward Aneesah Morrow has announced her decision to transfer to LSU after putting up big numbers at DePaul. The Chicago native averaged 25 points and 12 rebounds a game last season. She will join up with Angel Reese, who also averaged a double-double in scoring and rebounding last night. Morrow was rated as the second best player in the transfer portal and LSU also signed the top player in the transfer portal Hailey Van Lith from Louisville.

Back to baseball…Nicholls knocked off Southeastern Louisiana 13 to seven. Leadoff hitter Parker Coddou had four hits, Texas A-and-M Corpus Christi over Northwestern State eleven to eight, McNeese defeated Lamar six to four, UNO outscored Houston Christian nine to seven and Grambling defeated Texas Southern ten to eight to strengthen its lead on first place in the SWAC West Division.

Alabama needs a new head baseball coach as Brad Bohannon was fired yesterday amid a gambling probe. Bohannon scratched his starting pitcher an hour prior to the start of last Friday’s LSU game. There are reports Bohannon communicated with a person who put a large bet down on the game, which saw very little action across the country. The Tide played with an interim coach last night and defeated fifth ranked Vanderbilt 11 to 2.

The 24th ranked Ragin Cajuns softball team won its fourth straight Sun Belt Championship as they defeated ULM five to one last night. U-L Lafayette is 20-2 in league play and they’ve won 19 Sun Belt Championships in program history.
