The U.S. Coast Guard says a 623-foot-long bulk freighter lost power and steering control and crashed into an oil tanker and a barge early this morning in Gretna. The say a vessel carrying grains acted up near the Gretna ferry landing and struck another vessel that was fueling up. They say some oil spilled into the river but there is no threat to water supply. The incident is under investigation.

According to figures from the World Trade Center of New Orleans, Louisiana exports are up 9.3 percent during the first half of the year. That’s to $32.1 billion. This keeps Louisiana in 6th place in the US in exports having accounted for 3.6 percent of the $804 billion nationwide through midyear.

NOPD is asking for the public’s help in locating the gunman who were in a vehicle when they opened fire on a house in the 9th ward over the weekend. The shooting killed 2 and injured 5 including two young children. Police Chief Ronal Serpas says they now believe they know who was in the vehicle with the shooter…:

Judge Todd Hernandez will rule on the motions after he weighs out everything. No date was given on when a ruling is expected.

Last year, just under a million pounds of oyster meat was produced and Tesvich says early numbers for this year are only slightly better…
