In Denham Springs yesterday, an officer involved shooting has left one man dead. Authorities say when police encountered 47-year-old Robert Kohl of Fort Worth, Texas, they were forced to take cover when Kohl was waving a gun. When they asked him to show his hands, Kohl pointed the gun at the officers. One officer then shot Kohl. He was taken to a local hospital where he later succumbed to his injuries. The investigation is ongoing.

Several roads remain closed in north Louisiana as a result of a winter storm that has slammed the area. Kevin Davis, director of the Governor’s Office of Homeland Security and Emergency Preparedness, says says the National Weather Service reports temperatures should start rising after lunch time…

A 13 year-old boy who was baby sitting for a Baton Rouge man out with his wife for their anniversary, is dead following the accidental discharging of a weapon in the home. Twenty-five year old Adonis Forbes returned to check on the kids, and then examined his gun that was malfunctioning. As he tried to fix it, the gun fired striking 13 year-old Murrain Hawkins in the abdomen. Hawkins died at a local hospital, Forbes was booked with negligent homicide.

State Climatologist Barry Keim says Shreveport-Bossier is under a winter storm warning, a winter weather advisory is in effect for the Monroe area and Lake Charles, along with Alexandria, who are under a freezing rain advisory until noon tomorrow…

The potential of freezing rain in southwest Louisiana has led McNeese State to cancel classes tonight and tomorrow. A freezing rain advisory stretches as far east as East Feliciana Parish.

Winter weather conditions in north Louisiana have caused the closure of several roadways and exit ramps. These conditions can cause ice accumulation on roadways and hazardous driving conditions for motorists. Trooper Michael Reichardt says driving conditions are far from optimal and not getting any better…
