As a result of Governor Bobby Jindal’s religious freedom executive order, IBM has reportedly cancelled today’s ribbon cutting for its new National Service Center in downtown Baton Rouge. Soon after the state legislature voted down the “Marriage and Conscience Act”, the governor issued an executive order that mirrored language in the bill. Political analyst Bernie Pinsonat says the move by Jindal is just politics…:

Company executives wrote a letter to the governor saying the legislation opposes what IBM stands for.

The Shreveport Police Department is trying to find the person or persons responsible for shooting a gun in which a stray bullet struck a 4-year-old child in the hand. They say the mother of the victim told investigators the child was hit when they passed a group of feuding men and shots were fired. Anyone with information on this incident is urged to contact authorities. The child sustained only minor injuries.

A preliminary autopsy report could be released today on 32-year-old Kevin Bajoie of Zachary, who died after he was tased by two Baton Rouge police officers. Corporal Don Coppola says officers responded to a call involving a fight outside a home, when units arrived, Bajoie was lying on his back, he unexpectedly jumped up and attempted to attack an officer…:

A federal trial begins today challenging Louisiana’s law that requires doctors who preform abortions to have admitting privileges at a nearby hospital. Eric Gill reports…:

State Police say a 60-year-old pedestrian was struck and killed by a hit and run vehicle Sunday in St. Mary Parish. Investigators believe the victim, Larry Finister of Berwick, was lying in the road when he was run over and alcohol use on his part is suspected. Cops are trying to locate the vehicle — possibly a late model GMC or SUV.

Loyola Law Professor Dane Ciolino says the judge in this case could look at a recent Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals ruling on Texas’s abortion law for guidance…

State Police report a woman was killed in an early morning crash in Lafourche Parish. They say 32-year-old Agnes Rounds of Paradis was driving when her vehicle veered off the roadway in a curve, hitting a ditch and a fence pole. Her vehicle flipped and hit a parked truck before coming to a stop. Rounds, who was not wearing a seat belt, was ejected. She was taken to a local hospital where she later died. The crash is still under investigation.

The New Orleans Police Department says the suspect wanted in the killing of Officer Daryle Holloway has been captured. 33-year-old Travis Boys was arrested Sunday after being spotted trying to board a bus in the Lower 9th Ward. Boys is accused of killing Holloway early Saturday morning, as Holloway was transporting Boys to the Orleans Parish Prison.

The Toledo Bend Reservoir is named the number 1 bass fishery in the country for 2015 by Bassmaster. Director of the Sabine Parish Tourist Commission Linda Curtis-Sparks says Toledo Bend is worthy of this honor considering the experience that many fisherman have when it comes to reeling in the big catch on daily basis…

Under the proposed law, TOPS recipients next year would have 100-percent of tuition costs paid for, but the amount of the award would not automatically go up when tuition rises. Supporters say the bill is needed so the state can afford TOPS in future years, but Jindal says the legislation violates a promise that TOPS will cover a student’s tuition.

Governor Bobby Jindal has signed the 24.5 billion dollar budget and a package of tax bills sent over from the legislature, including a 50-cent increase on a pack of cigarettes. Jindal says it is a balanced budget that will protect higher ed and health care. There were several line item vetoes, including one that would have prevented State Police from paying for his security detail on campaign trips.

Three LSU football players, including quarterback Anthony Jennings, were suspended from the team indefinitely after being charged with the unlawful entry into a residence.
